  1. It would probably be easiest to take a ferry to Hamilton, then either a Taxi to the restaurants (they are both on Middle Rd) or get on a Pink line ferry to the Belmont ferry stop and Taxi from there. The second option with the Pink Ferry is an awful lot of steps, and not as easy to get a taxi from the ferry stops.

I can't say how much a taxi from Hamilton would be. Another option would be to get on a #8 bus that will take you past the Waterlot and the Fourways.

  2. Most of the souvenir shops should have some, check out the Clocktower Mall.

I collect ornaments too. When I can't find something I like, I use a keychain instead. They work just as well, and come with their own hook.

  3. My husband and I were on the Magic in 2011, our first Disney cruise. He somehow left his hat at the airport before we got on the DCL bus to the port, and thought it was gone forever. It wouldn't have been that big a deal, except it was a hat he got at the Magic Kingdom in 2008, and he was pretty fond of it.

The bus driver (whose name I can't remember) radioed the airport to see if someone could find it, and have it brought to the ship.

We never expected it to work, but the driver told us to check with guest services after we set sail, the hat would be there.

Sure enough, we went to ask just before dinner that night, and the man at the front desk came out of a back room with my husbands hat on his head (after going in to look).

I still can't believe they went to so much trouble over our forgotten hat.

  4. Hello Kim,

I just finished your review after starting it three days ago, wow, quite the effort you put into this! Bravo!

I started reading to get a taste of Bermuda, and you didn't disappoint. I lived on the island for five years when I was younger, and loved it so much I went back to get married in 2007! I haven't been back since (not for lack of wanting to), and have been feeling homesick. Your pictures took me back, especially since you were based out of the West End of the island where I used to live.

So thank you again! If all goes well, I may find myself on a cruise next year with the husband and my two boys! Keeping my fingers crossed!

  5. My husband and I did the Disney Magic in 2011, just us, and had the most amazing time. We've been spoiled for any other cruise line.

It's funny, I've heard people say they couldn't do a Disney cruise because of all the kids, but the thing they don't realize is Disney takes such good care of the kids, you don't really see them. I found the kids more noticeable on our Royal Caribbean cruise in 2013.

That's not to say I don't like kids, because I do, I have two boys of my own. But to any adults out there worried about a Disney cruise, please don't be. The staff will cater to you just as much as the smaller passengers, you will find some great spots of solitude (deck 4 is my favourite spot to sit and watch the ocean go by), and you will be able to sit back and relax while everything is done for you.

    Have a great time :)

  6. Somerset Long Bay is close, but you would want to take a taxi as there is no direct bus route. It's off the beaten path, lots of shade, and calm water which is great for kids. My class used to do gym there once in a while years ago, when the weather was nice and we behaved.

  7. Congrats on your decision to marry in Bermuda! I was married on the island in 2007.

I was lucky as my best friend/maid of honour lives on the island and was able to prep the favours for me. We used mini bottles of Gosling's Black Seal Dark Rum, and small sachets of Bermuda cedar shavings. The sachets were a surprise, courtesy of a friend of the family who has a carving business.

Good luck with all your planning!

  8. On our Magic cruise in January 2011, we (my husband and I) were chosen by the chef at Lumiere's to be a magical family. My husband had wanted to give his compliments to the chef one evening, and our server actually had him come to the table. There was much praise and laughter, and it was just a pleasant exchange. The last night of our cruise, we received a platter of fresh fruit, and a certificate stating that the chef and his team had nominated us. It was completely unexpected and a wonderful surprise to end our cruise.

  9. There are a lot of beautiful spots to have a picture taken, I wouldn't know how to pick just one.

Stonehole or Chaplin Bay on the South Shore are smaller beaches with beautiful rock formations that make for some amazing photos.

Astwood Park has beautiful greenery and the ocean right there to use as backdrop.

Closer to Dockyard, Scaur Hill has some amazing views of Great Sound and some island landscape.

And anywhere you can find a moongate you'll get a great photo. My favourite is on Sound View Road in Sandy's Parish. It's not particularly easy to get to by public transport, but offers an amazing view of Great Sound and some island landscape. I'm not entirely sure it's still there (I last saw it in 1993), but there are plenty of moongates across the island.

    Have a great trip!!

  10. Hi gambee,

I'm not usually one to reply to threads (I prefer to read and hide, lol), but I had to make a comment on this one.

I used to live in Bermuda, and have been feeling particularly homesick the past little while, and your review just made my day. Your pictures are amazing, and I am so pleased that you love Bermuda as much as you do.

So thank you for making me smile, and I hope you have a great time on your Disney cruise! I look forward to reading your other reviews when I have the time.
