  1. Yes, Woody is still doing tours. I know Princess goes to Dominica. I'm sure several others do, too

Thanks.... We are going to have to expand our cruising lines soon away, would be a great way of doing it to spend another fun filled day with Woody... ;)

  2. We were looking at some of our old cruise photos last evening and came across the most beauiful pictures of Dominica again... What a wonderful day we spent with Woody... I was just wondering if he is still conducting tours???? Talked really late into the night about finding a cruise ship that still went to Dominica just to spend another day in the "real Caribbean"...

  3. It's funny how just about any question regarding passports seems to fire up either the "carry your passport"/"leave it in the safe" or the WHTI exception discussion. :D

I don't know wheather it fires up any of the discussions.... I really think that folks are just plain confused by the rules.... As has been discussed, many cruisers were told all the way back in 2005 that Passports would be required by x date... As the date neared some of the issuing stations were swamped and the date was backed up (so it was told)... New x date was set.... As this date neared more discussion was needed and the date was backed up.... Here we are nearing June 1 and now more thought is needed as to wheather "closed loop cruises" really need Passports....

I also believe that a bit of fustration emerges when it is brought up, especially by those of us who have puchased the Passports and then it is pasted all over sites like this one where one cruiser sailed and paid for excursions with the money they saved by not purchasing Passports....:(

We can only hope that soon the confusion will come to an end and Passports will be required for vacationers cruising or flying outside US controlled territory....

  4. This is the first constructive discussion that I have witnessed on this issue in many a moon.... It is, without some discomfort, that we are not going to settle this issue on this forum...

I see and agree with both sides of this issue but it seems that the blame lies higher up the ladder in the halls of government that for one reason or another will not deal with this issue with common sense (common sense must not be required for decisions or laws passed down from the government)..... You need it or you don't.... Pretty simple concept to me...

    Time will tell....

  5. I want to echo the point raised by Terpnut ... If you get sick or injured while on your cruise, you can't return back to the US by any means other than the ship you left on! You will not be allowed to return to the US via air for any reason. Be safe, get a passport.

    Enjoy!

This is really NOT true.... The US Government is not going to leave you to wallow in some other country because you left the US by a perfectly legal means.... You will be required to visit or be visited by members of the US Consulate of that country where you will be issued a temporary Passport to allow you to re-enter the US by means other than a ship.... This may not be a quick painless process.... And all of this headache and time will be charged on your dime.... I would advise anyone to get a Passport but to pass this type of infomation along is just not right....:(

  6. You can always count on the government for a good laugh. In one sentence they have redefined both "Western Hemisphere" and "closed loop".

Unbelievable. No wonder this country is in such a mess, they just ignore the law as they see fit.

I hear you... If Belize and Isle Roatan are not in the Western Hemisphere maybe some government official could tell me just were they are at.... Mars maybe.... Jeez, and to think we actually pay taxes and hire these clowns....:(

  7. Sorry I missed your post Ladyonboard.... Glad that falcon74 and Cool Cordi answered.... I know that the price seems a bit high but believe me when I say that this is one of those things in life where you get what you pay for....

It would be ashame to visit Dominica and not be able to experience it in a way that only Woody can provide

  8. My DW and myself did the Off the Beaten Path tour with Woody and it was the highlight of our So. Caribbean cruise.... Woody is extremely knowledgeable of Dominica, its history, and its people.... Not running into anyone from our ship on an island as small as Dominica is a feat in itself.... We were treated to a selcuded waterfall on private property.... There was a little hiking involved but it was nothing strendious.... Fresh fruit, beer, and a killer homemade rum punch were provided along with bottled water or soft drinks.... Along with a swim on a secluded black sand beach in the Atlantic, we traveled around in Woody's Land Rover in comfort....

I'm sure that I don't do justice to the tour we were given.... Try it and you WILL NOT be disappointed....

  9. I know that this doesn't have anything to do with the cruise air explaination (which was very good by the way if someone like me could even grasp it...:) ) but if a TA charges a fee to book your airline tickets, then why would they push cruise air? Is the commission that large? One would think that if they sit down with a client and explain the options that that would go along way to securing repeat business.... IMO

  10. Most also have no knowledge of the airline industry, how pricing works, what to do if there is a problem, etc. They just know they need to get to the cruise. "Leave it to someone else". And then again, there are a lot of TA's that sell, sell, sell the cruise air idea. They KNOW they don't get commission on airline tickets. But if they can book the full package, then the package is commissionable (sp?).

I know that I'm very ignorant in cruiseline/airline/TA relationships, but when we booked our flights for our upcoming cruise our TA charged us a fee for the flight ticket portion of the cruise. The tickets were issued by the airlines. I believe the fee totaled $25 dollars for the pair. Is this not an industry standard or have I had my head in the sand too long?
