  1. I've been to UK restaurants that charge a service fee plus I always round up my bill. If it's £18, I'll leave £20.

There have been some US restaurants that tried to build the tip into the price of the food. None were successful as far as I know. Prices got too high and waitstaff had no incentive to be the best they can. Why handle 5 tables when I get the same salary as the other waiter who handles 4?

Bottom line is that you're not going to change an entire industry so why hurt workers?

And to other Brits, not trying to paint with a broad brush but every time this topic comes up, it's usually someone from the UK that refuses to accept the system in place. I know you don't all do it.

  2. If that's true then why are the other two UK'ers on this thread removing the gratuities? They're US cruise lines. And I'd love to hear from those two to find out if they tip at restaurants in the US as you say. Why tip there but not similarly on a US ship?

I think there is more than 2 UK cruisers that use American ships,

Put that aside what would you tip a restaurant worker in the UK?

The American culture of tipping is so outdated and the way American companies treat their staff is more like slavery than a person who dose not tip.

American people need to stand up and realise that they are been taken for a ride

  3. That's why the cruise lines raise their drink prices 18% on UK cruises. British are notorious for not understanding or accepting the concept of gratuities/service fees

I'm sorry but I find your comment appalling,British people do tip when in the USA what the British people don't understand is why they have to,the company that you work for should pay their employees a living wage instead of hoping the cruise customers will pay it for them.

I find American companies are just exploiting their employees by not paying a living wage.

On a side note American tourists never tip anybody in the UK,because we pay our workers a living wage

  4. Hi all,we have booked a cruise on the silhouette sailing around the Caribbean.

We have sailed the last few cruises with royal Caribbean but have got a bit bored and disappointed with them

What can we expect with celebrity in regards to dining entertainment and overall experience compared to Royal (obviously if anybody had sailed Royal)

We are excited about trying a new cruise line

  5. Just off the vision this morning, the ship is in great shape as are the crew, shows not so good imho, food to me was above average. No wait time at the bars anywhere on the ship, waiters a bit hit and miss.

Stateroom very spacious and clean, bed comfortable we had a OV on deck 2.

Public areas very clean, centrum very crowded when shows on, , photographers always blocking aisles.

Pool deck very spacious with a large pool bar and two bottle bars.

We had the PP package we got our moneys worth,no problem getting a drink.

If you have any questions I will try and answer as many as I can after Sunday as I am travelling back to the UK

  6. I'm with you wato1963, We too spend a lot of our hard earned £££'s flying From Newcastle UK to Florida to join a Caribbean cruise and we get our money's worth with the drinks package without going too far

Exactly uk cruiser2, im going from Redcar, train to Manchester, fly to Atlanta, then fly to tampa.Spend a night in tampa before the cruise. After that trip I deserve a drink

  7. Customer service is a joke

We have no cruise documents and we leave in 7 days, when we first rang royal we were told we owed money even though our invoice was fully paid. They said it was sorted and they would be available to download in 48 hours . That was monday and now it's Wednesday, we ring again to be told one website says zero balance but another says a payment is due.3 hours later we are still waiting for a call back.We must have spent about four hours on the phone to customer service and no joy. This is really souring our cruise experience.

No idea were to turn next at this rate there will be no trip
