After reading these posts, I have no idea what an avery is. I do know what an aviary is though. It’s a place with birds.

Go to the other side of the island and you’ll hardly see anyone.

I have been going to Costa Maya for the past 3 years and they do not have golf carts to rent. There are "taxi" service that uses industrial size golf cart "trains" like you see in amusement parks to taxi you to the beach. They are cheap like $5 - $8 one way.
Yes they do rent carts, have done so for a lot longer than you’ve been visiting, and it’s right in the port area where the cabs are. A simple google search turned up Mahahual Golf Carts, reviews and info can be found on the usual travel review site.

Someone on another thread just posted about renting golf carts in Mahahual when they were there like last week so this info is clearly wrong.

I just returned from a week long vacation in Mahahual. We rented a golf cart one day and drove all over town and out the beach road all the way to Maya Chan. Be sure to walk the malecon and see for yourself what a great little town it is.
Could you let me know where you rented the golf cart from, please? It sounds like fun.

How much can I expect to pay to hire a taxi and driver for the day? Also, I thought I'd drive north of Castries along the water to end up at the Cliff at Cap for lunch. Are there any cool outlooks or bars or other POI along the way that I should check out? Is it worth going to the east side, like Plantation Beach area?

Great review but wazores.com links to an apartment rental site...

We will be in Falmouth in Feb on the Independence of the Seas and wanted to book a walking tour independent of the cruise ship. Any good suggestions of a good walking tour ?? Thanks in advance
There's a walking Jamaica Culinary Tour, operated by a couple of Falmouth sisters, that looks rather interesting...

Has anyone done a Pilates class on board any of their cruises? If so, what were they like? Does anyone know if any ships have Pilates Reformers on board? I cruise with many different lines so this isn't ship or line specific.
Cheers,

Hey, does anyone know if the cabanas offer full shade? From the pics, it kind of looks like some of the cabanas and/or the loungers could well be exposed to the sun and I don't see any curtains or anything that could block it. Comments?

We're interested in seeing these from the water but not as part of a tour. Does anyone know if we can just find a guy with a boat in the area to take us out to see them and then back in?
Cheers,

This is easy to do on your own, it's right in town only a few blocks from the cruise pier. You dont even need a taxi.

The cost is $4 for adults and free for children under 6 years of age. Tours are done Tuesday through Friday from 11:30 until 4:15. You don’t need to call in advance, just show up; a new tour begins every seven minutes or so. There are stairs you have to climb up and go down.

I heard Mr. Delicious serves great cutters. It's little more than an old converted bus which he parks by Miami/Enterprise beach. Anyone tried it?

I'll add another recommendation for Zoom - he is great! We booked with him for 2 full days in Saigon, all airport transfers and he also arranged our private Halong Bay 2-night charter. All emails were answered promptly, he has vast knowledge of the country and its history, was able to adapt to one of us with mobility issues, and just generally made our trip so special and so wonderful. Vietnam is amazing!

I'm back from my Vietnam trip and it was amazing from start to finish. Zoom, our Saigon tour guide, got us our private charter for Halong Bay on Paradise Privilege, (even after my own efforts came up short), and it was the most incredible experience. We were told the boat catered to western standards of luxury, and it delivered. The three suites were beautifully appointed, the boat was gorgeous, the food and service was 5-star. We pre-selected our activities, but the staff had no problem adjusting our itinerary on the fly, and with 6 staff to cater to 5 guests, they managed unobtrusive pampering. This cruise was the highlight of our Vietnam trip, and we all agreed that Halong Bay might be the most beautiful place on this or any planet. We are so glad we opted for 2 nights versus one. The cost to charter the boat was around $3000 for the 2 nights and worth every penny :)

Thanks for all your assistance everyone. I have ended up chartering the Paradise Privilege for 3days/2 nights and am now having fun deciding on our itinerary. It's going to be a blast!

Further research has made me want to add the Premier Valentine to my shortlist, as it only has two cabins so would be a private cruise for the three of us. Presumably, we could then tailor it to our liking. Does anyone have any information on this?

Thanks Goya, but yeah Im definitely not looking for a backpackers special :)
Tripadvisor is one of my usual sources, though I take their reviews with a large grain of salt as they are the largest target of advertising agencies specializing in seeding online review forums.
Violet is a possibility, cheers :)

Greetings,
I'll be in Vietnam, along with two others, in October on a land-based trip and we want to do an overnight cruise of Halong Bay. One of us is elderly, with some mobility issues, and we will want a luxury experience with suite-service, private baths, private balconies, top-notch food and amenities. I am narrowing my choices to: Valentine, Emeraude, and Paradise Explorer. Any input on these or other possibilities in the luxury range?
Cheers,
