  1. Had thirty of them on my mid July Rome to Venice cruise. They pretty much commanded the pool on most afternoons and some evenings. If you don’t want lots kids on your cruise avoid summer, Christmas, Presidents week, and spring break. I think the reason you’ll see more children on cruises nowadays is the growing popularity of multigenerational vacations.

  2. Agree with jtm1 and would generally give the Muse two thumbs up. There are a few niggles however. The number of children does affect the ambiance. It only takes four or five of them to make the wonderfully large pool seem like day camp during certain hours of the day. Spaccanapoli , the pizza venue, is a godsend for the parents. Can a Chicken Nugget Nook be far behind?

Dining outdoors at La Terrazza is lovely. Indoors however, the ambiance remains the same as it does at breakfast and lunch. It's a cafeteria that aspires to be a fine dining establishment. The food at Atlantide, Indochine and Hot Rocks has been consistently good. The selections for breakfast and lunch at La Terrazza are the best we've ever had. Special mention goes to the talented young singers known as the Artists of Silversea. This might be the most talented group we’ve had in many years. The staff has been outstanding and once they remedy the solo traveler experience, go to open seating in the two main restaurants and adjust the currently ridiculous dress code I would gladly sail this beautiful ship again.

  3. Actually there’s nothing all that special about formal nights. The menu isn’t really exclusive for the occasion. The house wine selection that evening is nothing special. There’s no special theme to the evening. There’s nothing celebratory about the evening. The designations on what nights are formal versus what nights are informal seems to be quite arbitrary.

The main reason to dress up is that you enjoy doing it.

  4. Whether both smaller vessels will be sold off or sail on for another year or two is moot. What is certain is that the golden era of cruising in a clubby and intimate atmosphere is over. You might say it’s gone with the “Wind”.

  5. Recently disembarked the Cloud and sad to say this but after 100+ days this might be my last cruise with a ship and cruise line that I’d become quite fond of. Dining was a hit a miss situation - sometimes good and sometimes just poorly prepared. On those mornings when toast arrived, I always had to ask for butter. After the iced tea arrived I always had to ask for sugar. I always enjoyed the tray of cookies and petit fours that were placed on the table at the end of dinner. That’s gone. The cheese trolley- that’s gone. The breakfast omelette station-that’s gone. The lunch pasta station-that’s gone. The deck BBQ-that’s gone.

I know about the sneeze-guard putting an end to that but there’s no good reason not to have one outdoor celebration on the pool deck per cruise. The teak decking is in dire need of repair. The number of complaints regarding the plumbing and air conditioning seemed to exceed the usual amounts of these types of complaints. The staff as always were hard working and pleasant.

  6. Dusababy- If the HD admitted to you that the Cloud is being used to test how far Silversea can go in eliminating certain services, then I would say this is a pretty shocking admission. I’d also guess that this particular HD’s days at Silversea are now numbered.

  7. I don’t ever recall reading this many negative comments about the Cloud from someone that I perceive to be a glass half full type of person. And if some have seen Duct Tape as a bit of a cheerleader for Silversea i’d say the poms poms are now floating in the waters off the coast of Grand Cayman. I anxiously await a detailed report on what went wrong on this cruise.

  8. It may be true that a good number of SS and SB travelers are quite independent and would not pay for excursions they'd be disinclined to take but they do not represent the majority of the people on any of the non-expedition cruises. I’d say that the majority get on the buses or get off the ship and walk around town. I don’t think Silversea would try this if they didn’t think Regent was making money on this scheme. There’s a reason that nearly all the domestic airlines have now jumped on the extra charges for legroom, early boarding, aisle seats etc. They do it because they can. I’ve had some of my best vacation experiences on Silversea cruises over the years but I realize that brand loyalty means very little to the bean counters in Monaco. If Silversea pulls this off you can bet Seabourn will follow suit shortly thereafter.

  9. Silver Spectre, I share your concern about the lack on maintenance of the Cloud. I also appreciate your sharing your photo of the broken rail but why wait until you disembarked the ship to express your displeasure. You were on that ship for 15 days. Couldn’t you have approached the HD, CD or Captain on the 14th day and said something? I’m sure any of them would be more able to remedy the situation than those of us looking at your photo of that broken and possibly dangerous rail.
