  1. So far no change, yes, an earthquake! Can you believe it! Shocking!

Waters calm, just docking in Costa Maya, beautiful sunrise. A sea day tomorrow en route to Cozumel again, Sunday. To date still expecting to return Ft Laud on Tuesday, but that could change... might be another day at sea, or re-route if port damaged, who knows.....

    Just gotta wait and see.

    Thanks for the update:D

  2. I'm currently on the Harmony approaching Costa Maya and woke up to the news that there was an earthquake in Mexico not that far from us. My Central Florida home is in the direct path of hurricane Irma and I am on a cruise ship that is near an area where there was just an 8.1 earthquake. Not sure if the only two ports in Florida will be open to welcome us home on Tuesday morning or how the conditions in Florida will be to drive home. I don't even know if I should get off the ship! I'm feeling very defeated.

I have some friends currently on the Harmony. I was worried when I heard about the earthquake. Has it affected the ship? Where are you guys headed next?

  3. i always like to arrive the day before I sail so I can relax and get the vacation going. This time was no different except I spent the entire day making arrangements for Erika. According to the news she arrives the same day we return. I'm a little nervous but hey what can you do. I decided not to tell my family that I'm traveling with because they will just freak out the entire time. We arrive to FLL 15 minutes ahead of schedule to partly cloudy skies. Then we hear the first announcement that we've arrived early and that there were storms earlier so we had to wait 30-40 mins for an available gate. Well that turned into 90 mins - not a good way to start.

We finally get off and go to get an uber to our Miami hotel. Oh but wait Uber is banned in a Broward County  so we ended up with a private car for a flat fee. As we head to Miami the rain starts and really gets going. We arrive at the hotel check in and go for our first vacation meal and drink :p the whole time it's pouring outside and the skies are lighting up. I'm hoping this wouldn't be the weather when we board but just in case I lay out a weather appropriate outfit.

Woke up this morning and there's no rain. I can actually see the sun!!! So hopefully this holds up until we sailaway this afternoon.

    More to come...

  4. We have sailed in August, the only challenge is that it is hot.

If you are worried about it being hurricane system it has not been an issue, at least for us. If there is a storm the ship will simply change the itinerary. If you are looking for a specific port and it will ruin your cruise if you don't make it, this may not be the time to sail for you.

In all my cruises I have only missed one port. Grand Turk due to high winds. One our trip last August the itinerary order was changed but we hit the original ports.

Im from the NorthEast its already hot and humid here. Im okay with that because its a vacation :-)

  5. I am not worried about sailing during hurricane season. In 2010 our western Caribbean cruise became an eastern Caribbean cruise thanks to Hurricane Paula. No big deal that our ports were changed.

What I do worry about is getting to the embarkation port as we do not have directs and the storms can come right up the east coast and cancel flights. We do go 2 or 3 days early. In 2014 we missed a cruise because of a snow storm that shut down Charlotte and Atlanta for nearly 4 days and we were scheduled to fly out 3 days early. The cruise was to start on Sunday and because of all the back up of planes and passengers, the earliest we could get out would have been Tuesday.

Oh no that's awful. I try to leave a day or two early to give myself a little buffer

  6. If that's the time you have available to book the cruise, I would book it. I wouldn't worry.

The only think I would worry about is if you would be upset if you missed a port. Just remember if there's a hurricane or a tropical storm they will move the ship's route so be prepared that the itinerary you book may not be the same as what you will actually cruise, if you are ok with the possibility of that happening then go ahead!

I'm not too concerned about missed ports since this was a "I need a break vacation" so I just wanted to be at sea.
