Did you catch this part of AtSea's answer? I don't how great a hotel is, I'd never spend more than 12 hours in the LAX area.

Yes, thank you. Perhaps you missed the part of my original post where I said I was purely looking for a jet lag stay and not interested in places that offered more in terms of things to see and do? I'm spending 2 nights - one day - pre cruise, and after close to 24 hours of travel across multiple time zones I will spend most of that time sleeping.

  2. Hello. I will be flying into LAX this October, 2 nights before cruising out of San Pedro. Based on reading posts on these forums, the Crowne Plaza sounds like the best bet if I was to stay near the port but staying at LAX would be a bit cheaper.

As I am travelling from Australia, the extra nights are to allow for jet lag so I'm not too bothered about staying somewhere that has lots to offer by way of things to see and do. I'm really just interested in something clean and comfortable, with decent food options in or close by the hotel. At most, I usually just head out for a walk, some fresh air and to get something to eat on my jet lag day. As I'm travelling solo, safety is also a consideration in where I stay.

Would people still recommend San Pedro over LAX? If not, any suggestions for hotels at/near LAX that have reasonable options for food, stretching one's legs, and preferably with a reliable shuttle from the airport.

    Thanks heaps

  3. Try http://www.hotelclub.com - depending on what sort of quality you're looking for there are hotels in both Perth and Sydney (the Rocks) for under $200AUD/night in February on there at the moment.

I'm not familiar with any hotels in the Rocks but I can recommend the Travelodge in Perth - I've stayed there myself 3 years ago and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. It's only a 5 min walk to the city centre and the main shopping area (which means it's reasonably quiet in the evenings) and it has a CAT bus stop right out the front (free bus service or at least it was 3 years years ago). Plus, it was on the airport shuttle route.

  4. Hi all

I'm single, mid-30s, no kids (unless you count the Mog) and I love travelling on my own - not just cruising. It just gives me so much freedom. I can go when I want, where I want, how I want. I can do as much or as little as I want and I don't have to answer to anyone or be made feel guilty for my choices. (Can you tell I've had a few bad experiences travelling with 'friends' and family? :D )

I also love having my own room to come back to. Not having to share the bathroom with someone or worry about leaving clothes or shopping strewn around. ;) And, as someone who suffers from chronic migraines, the peace and quiet... enough said!

    That's my two cents :p

  5. Hi, unfortunately Perth is a bit expensive but there's not so much on offer as in Sydney or Melbourne, I guess. I do hope you enjoy your visit, though, as I grew up there and I have fond memories :)

The last time I was there, a few years back for my 30th, I stayed at the Travelodge Hotel Perth. It's a little further down Hay Street than the Kings Perth Hotel and a bit more expensive, I fear, but it was a lovely stay. The staff were fabulous and, as it's a little further out from the pedestrian malls, it's a bit quieter. It's only a short walk into the main centre and, when I stayed there, there was a stop for one of the CAT buses right out the front.

Otherwise, Miss Mauds is one I have always wanted to try and has good reviews on TripAdvisor.

    Good luck. :)
