so i hate to sound ridiculous... but I am one of those people who have no idea what to do on a rower, but love to try new things at a gym. We are going on the Caribbean and would love to know what to do so that you guys won't be making fun of me here!!!
You don't sound ridiculous at all. The Concept 2 rower is a piece of equipment that has to be used properly to get the full benefit of it. With proper technique, it safely provides a full body workout that you won't get on any other machine. (I should be selling these things... :D )
I think the fastest way for new users to understand how it works and how to use it is to watch a video on youtube. Since we can't post links here, when you get to the youtube site, just add 'concept 2 rowing technique' in the search field. The first 2 or 3 results that come up should give you a pretty good idea. Feel free to ask if you have any more questions.

The menu is at the link below. I don't think it changes during the day. Note the several crepe offerings featuring eggs, which I imagine would be what many would order for breakfast. (Or the Nutella crepe in my photo above. :) )

Exactly, my DW liked the egg crepes and I stuck with Nutela and soup. I never do the traditional scrambled eggs, bacon and toast breakfast and we don't usually eat before 10.00.

They still had the old menu (which I like) on the Silhoutte last week. Crepes and creamy soups were excellent and in the morning, the place was empty so that's where we ate breakfast most days.

We ate at the Tuscan Grill on the Silhouette last Thursday and we had a great experience. The service and food was very good. We both had the ribeye and while it was nowhere near to what we're used to in western Canada, it was one of the better steaks at sea that we've had. We booked on board @ $45pp. You can get a better deal if you book ahead of time, buy a speciality dining package or go the first night on board.

Just back off the Silhouette and they do have a model - D in great working condition. Not too many people were using it so I got to spend a bit of quality time with it. :D
I'll make a list of all the ships that I know of that have the C2 machines.

We're going to be on the Silhouette in September and have a sizable OBC. I was wondering if we could use $200 (or whatever they charge) for a future cruise booked on the ship from the OBC.

Hello, we just booked our next cruise on the Celebrity Silhouette. Has anybody been on it recently and can tell me if there is a Concept II onboard? Thanks.

So, Oasis had one Model E. The tension on the handle was very low, the shock cord needs to be replaced, so it was not of much use to me. I've found that gyms often do not know how to take care of the C2.
Thanks for getting back to us with the info. That's too bad the machine was in such a bad condition, did you mention it to one of the officers?
I just sold my 15 year old model C, it took less than 30 minutes after the ad was published. They're very popular. Now I can get a new model D with PM4. ;)

We just got back from our 5 week trip/cruise to French Polynesia and South Pacific. We'd spent 5 nights at the Sofitel in Moorea pre-cruise and also visited the Pearl resort and IC while on the island. Of the 3, the Sofitel resort felt the most natural while the IC had great beach facilities like two infinity pools but it was quite busy. The Sofitel is a 30 minute walk from the ferry and yes, I walked it. We did some research before booking our bungalow and requested #218 which was at the end of the walkway facing Tahiti and at night we could see all of Papeete.
The hill on the left is Tahiti. The sunrises were spectacular, I was up at 5:30 every morning running around with my camera. Here's one of my pics.

Does anyone know if there is a c2 on the Oasis?
They had 2 C2 - E's on the Allure so I would expect the same on the Oasis. Let us know what you find out.

Just off the Ocean Princess. It's a smaller ship with a smaller gym but everything is there including one C2 - D rower. 4 of the 5 treadmills were working. Many cable loaded machines - most equipment was by Precor and a full set of dumbbells.
-
On a ship, I'd never skip my gym time, I'd rather miss dinner. I spend 1 to 2 hours in the gym every day, more on sea days. My diet is the same on a cruise as it is at home, I usually go for the healthier foods in moderate amounts. It's the shore based restaurants while sampling local cuisine and beverages that get me in trouble but that doesn't happen too often.

UPDATE: There IS a C2 erg on board Caribbean Princess! It was great to see, but unfortunately I was prevented from using it on a couple of occasions by people ill-skilled for the task (i.e. pulling ~200 watts @ 30 spm). Nonetheless, it was great not to have to use the treadmill!
That's a great news, thanks for the update. I wish Princess would consider adding rowers fleet wide.

The first time my husband and I were there, we were on the Tahitian Princess (only 600 passengers), and it was great. The Tahitian Princess is no longer.
But it is. After the drydock, it was renamed Ocean Princess and it still does the Hawaii to Australia itinerary. We'll be on this ship in March from Papeete to Sydney. We've never been on anything as small as the Ocean Princess so it'll be an interesting experience.

I'll be on the Equinox on Friday and I'm pretty sure they'll have at least one C2D just like the Solstice. ;)
Oops, I spoke too soon. There is no rowing machine on the Equinox, I guess not all ships are equal.
-
Is there a C2 on the Emerald Princess? Would love to know if it has a card reader too. Many thx. :)
I was on the Emerald last year and they didn't have a rower of any kind. Have a great cruise and let us know if you find a C2 on board. I was told that some cruise lines (who don't have them yet) are considering adding them to their ships.

C2, Model E on Carnival Liberty
Thanks for the new info and the pic. I would just add that the machine in the picture is the model "D". "E" looks similar but is higher off the ground - chair height. That part of the gym looks a lot like the one on the Constellation.

Just off the sapphire princess. She has one concept 2 rower. Not sure if it was always there or new since she is just out of drydock. All the equipment looked new to me.
That's a good news, thanks. We were on the Sapphire in 2010 and there were no rowers and the treadmills were on their last leg.
-
Some good news for rowers cruising on the Celebrity Solstice.
I also have pictures from the Allure but I have to find them first. They have two Model E's on board.

We are going on a Western Caribbean cruise in March. Am I understanding that we can board by noon and have lunch that day?
On January 8th we were eating at the Oceanview Cafe on the Solstice at 11:30 AM when an announcement came over the PA that our cabin was ready. This was the earliest ever for us.
-
I was able to get in at 11:30 because the Solstice had just undergone a five day drydock. That was nice!
Yes, that was very nice and unexpected. We were having lunch at the Oceanview Cafe when they made the announcement.

I row with the damper on 10, always have. It's the only way I feel like I'm working hard. Thanks for the info on the Dream, that's good to know.
We were on the Emerald Princess last month and sadly, there are no rowers of any kind aboard.

This thread is a great resource for those willing to do a bit of research and book a relatively inexpensive OV cabin with minimal obstructions. We just booked a cabin (E415) on the Sapphire Princes to Alaska and it appears that there are some spot lights bellow the window but other than that, the view should be great. My question is, since this room does not accommodate more than two people, is the bed against the (windowless)wall? Any pics?

It's good to know that the Golden has a C2 machine. We were on the Diamond Princess in November and they had none. In September, we're going to be back on the Jade (ex PoH that we were on last year) and I can hardly wait to see if they still have the two Neptune water rowers with broken computers.
It's nice to see more people getting into rowing and hopefully, the cruise line executives will take notice and start adding C2 machines to their gyms.
