  1. That's subjective. We totally enjoy it, but we love Jamaica and the people. We don't have much fear, nor do we let little things intimidate us. It's a very populated area (comparatively) with lots of shops and restaurants. There will be a few people that may be peddling their services or wares, but just smile, say No and continue on. Sometimes if something intrigues us we will enter a store or restaurant. It's all in your attitude and not being afraid of another culture.

It's a city, so keep your money and valuables tucked away, don't flaunt a lot of cash, don't follow someone down an alleyway, etc. but most of all enjoy and soak in all the Jamaica atmosphere, sights and sounds.

Perfect that was the response that I was looking for. Just normal safety stuff even if your were home....just be aware of your surroundings!

    Thanks!

  2. take the one on the port side corner and mark the reservation do not move will not accept an upgrade. do a google search for carnival valor 9200 the will rip out that public deck on 9 and expand the cabins to the railing. making those rooms bigger giving them floor to ceiling windows. there are no cabins on deck 10 across the front

There are the Freedom. Some of my friends booked them. I took cabin 9202, which is the first one on that side.

  3. Its the same layout as the Liberty- different decor.

is the freedom going into dry dock before your cruise? if so it will be outfitted with the scenic oceanview cabins on the lido deck

That is a big question for us. Yes it will be in dry dock for 44 days I believe. Deck 9 is the floor we are going to book on and that is the deck that I think will be changed. How do you think Carnival will handle that price change? Will I be moved, or asked if I want to pay the additional price? Do you think deck 10 will change too?

BTW thanks for your Help!!!! YOU ROCK

  4. your count down has Liberty- same class ship

sailing in Sept I would not take those cabins.

Sept in prime time hurricane season and if you hit rough waters those cabins across the front will feel the brunt of it.

We jsut sailed on the Glory in 9200 and the sailing was smooth as glass. The walk was long to get to anything.

Avoid the cabins with the * inside-- the * denotes two twin beds and they sit head board to headboard and can not go together

We are looking at the Freedom for 2014.

  5. We just got off the Majesty of the Seas, and where in cabin 8096 oceanview obstructed. The view wasn't bad, but it was a very small room for 3 adults. There is a mens public restroom right a round the corner from this cabin...it gets kinda smelly. I would suggest anyone booking this room should take in to consideration that its only 122 square feet, for 2 it would be fine. The disco is also around the corner, we had no problems with noise.

  6. The Panorama Deck layout is a bit different than the Veranda Deck. I thought 8191 would be a deck up, starboard, from where I was in 7192, but it's further aft.

It looks like you should be right under Horatio's. I don't imagine there will be a whole lot of noise there. I sat at tables in that area. Just a few booths and tables by the window. You aren't under the aft pool or the main pool. You probably won't get as much pool-band sound as we did.

Thanks, that what I was thinking.

  7. I was told by the cruise line that my mom would not need a passport. She is disabled and won't be able to cruise, or travel for that matter, much longer so I did not want to go through the expense of getting her a passport. We were told that as long as the ship departs and returns to a US port that she could travel with just her driver license and birth certificate. We are only going to Ensenada. Have we been given erroneous information?

Cruise line told me the same thing. And according to government website that is the case until Summer of 2008.

Have a great time with your Mom!!!

  8. For the opposite problem....if you know what I mean....I read somewhere (Rick Steves?) that you should eat yogurt every day when traveling. The enzymes in the yogurt offer some protection against bacteria in foods your stomach isn't used to.

I get that opposite problem everytime...Imodium is my best friend, I have IBS. Any milk product would trigger the problem for me.

  9. When will they (gov't) decide on if the proposed rule will go in to effect? Everything that I have read states that they will let you know in at least 60 days for RT cruise with US origin for US citizens that you have to have pp. I check the pp website every week to look for updates, but I haven't found anything yet.

    THanks

  10. henepup, That warmed my heart. This January we took my mom on the Serenade out of San Juan for her 90th birthday present. Last time she cruised was in 1925 when she immigrated to the US. She too loved the cruise, especially the visits to the islands RUM SHACKS.

In '91 my fiancée was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer (survival rate 4%). In August of '02 we honeymooned aboard the Mercury to Alaska and we have cruised every year since. For 5 years cancer free and our anniversary August 24th we are doing our first B2B on Grandeur. Like others have stated, when you come that close you savor every moment above ground.

Cancer free, what a wonderful word!!! Most definately, savor every moment!!

    Have a great day

  11. My Grandpa died last year, it was long and drawn out (heart condition). In 2004 we took him on a cruise. There were 11 family members that went. It was amazing to see his face on his first plane ride at 81 yrs old. My mom kept trying to give him a valium to calm his nerves, of course we slipped him some bourbon...lol He couldn't believe the size of the ship, RCCL's Mariner. He always had people fooled, we would wheel him around in a wheelchair, but he could always walk to the casino, after he snuck out of the cabin..lol He let everyone think he was confused about where everything was, but he knew...lol We also took him to a clothing optional beach, boy was he happy there...lol Every morning he would have some bourbon and coffee with breakfast, of course my mom and aunt had a fit, but at 81 yrs old who cares, let him have a nip or 2. That was one of the best vacations I ever had.

This next cruise we will be taking my MIL, and niece, it will be thier first cruise and I can't wait to see thier faces!!!

Thanks for this thread, it brought back soooo many memories. Grandpa always said, "This cruisin thing is for the life of the rich and famous, are you sure we can be here?"
