I am taking Virgin's Valiant Lady from Miami April 22 to Barcelona then will spend three weeks in Florence and environs. My return to North America will be on Carnival Venezia. Thanks for the ideas shared in this group! Hello to the Canucks on board!

I'm doing both of these cruises as well but I am flying home to NYC then going back to Barcelona three weeks later.

  2. Hi everyone,

I booked this Carnival Transatlantic a few weeks ago. I've done several TAs on several different cruise lines but this will be my first on Carnival. Have sailed out of Barcelona a few times as well. The main draw for me was that this unusual spring westbound ends in Manhattan which is where I live. Thirty minute cab ride home, maybe even less!

I’ve never done a transatlantic cruise, and have never cruised with Virgin Voyages. Most all of the cruises that I have done were Eastern/Western Caribbean and Bahamas, Canada/NE, Alaska, and the short cruises out of LA, and with most all the mass market cruise lines over the past 33 years. I did spend quite a bit of time at sea in the 12 years I was in the US Navy and racked up 10 years of sea time. So I’ve got that going for me. LOL 😉

That being said, the Oct. 29, 2023 14-night Barcelona to Miami cruise is a steal and just too good of a deal to pass up for a single-occupancy sailor as myself.

I have done a few longer cruises, but not one that had soooo many sea days, which I’m sure that I’ll love. Being sort of an introvert, I’m sure that I can find plenty to do by reading a book, catching up on some movies on the in-cabin entertainment system, people-watching, and gazing out at the horizon from my balcony while relaxing in a hammock. The ports of call - Ibiza, Malaga, and Funchal - are almost secondary in my mind, since I’d primarily be doing this for the ship.

So, I’m wondering if there are any cons to doing a two-week stretch on Valiant Lady? For those that have sailed with Virgin Voyages, do you think that 14-nights is too much of a good thing?

THANK YOU in advance for your insights! 😁

    Hi Matt

I hope you've booked already as the no single. Supplement deal expires on October 4.

I agree it's a steal. 😁 I booked this years cruise Barcelona to Miami. 10\16\22.

On the Seashore last week we were on the side that you could view the lighthouse. I don't know the technical terms but looking toward the front of the ship from our balcony we were on the right hand side.

That is starboard. Now you know. 🤓

Radio - Thanks for the parking information.  I have totally enjoyed your postings and pictures.  We are on the Xmas cruise.  One person on our Roll Call wrote that RCL told him up to 60% capacity. Another wrote that they were told it was not finalized,

Sunshine 3601 thanks for the parking info as well.  The web site says $25/day.  I think it used to be $20

The $20 parking price was awhile back. It's $25 now. They were going to raise it to $30 back in October but they decided not to luckily.

    Hi Denise!

Haven't read any post from you or the other Denise in a while. Hope you are doing good and planning future cruises (by land or by sea!😄)

    Hi it's been awhile !!

I am doing ok ,just waiting to get back to cruising. I have one booked for next November, a TA of course on Harmony which will be my first Oasis class. And also Anthem in January of 2022. The other Denise and I were supposed to spend 40 or so days on Radiance this year. Two transpacifics...All canceled. Sigh!

  7. Hi everyone

I love transatlantics. I have done several on different cruiselines. Like Cunard, Windstar, Princess, HAL, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Azamara. Most have been westbound but eastbound are ok too. Was scheduled to do two transpacifics on Radiance this year but the Roma virus has basically killed those. I have booked Harmony of the seas for next year. My first Oasis class cruise. I look forward to trivia and enrichment lectures and just relaxing. I booked an ocean view cabin on Harmony overlooking the helicopter in front of the ship so I can see what the Captain sees. Hopefully it won't be too Rocky but I do enjoy a little motion of the ocean.

  8. Congrats AF-1! Awesome

I originally picked May 1 as my tentative retirement date. Then I found out that you get your first pension check sooner if you retire at the end of the month as opposed to the beginning, so I am moving it back to April 29 or 30. I get 5 personal days on April 21 (my Anniversary date) then I will use them and retire.

  9. Interesting that you mention that. On a similar note the ships make such a point of asking people not to refill their water bottles at the ice water stations but they have no problem with people refilling their soda cups at the machines.
Because if used properly the cup in the machine does not touch anything soda free falls into your cup as you press the button but the cups on the dispenser in the windjammer for water does. Hope this makes sense.

Edit: many folks don't obey the signs anyway. Sit and watch sometime. Folks refill their dirty bottles at the dispenser . Actually I rather use the freestyle machine. I try not to get upset about it .

  10. If you choose the $100 reduced deposit, then that is automatically non-refundable. However, they should have told people that for categories of JS and below, refundable deposits are an option. Refundable deposits would not be reduced.
That's not what Pamela told me on Jan 28th cruise. She said the refundable deposit would be $450 for my single booking. And I think the OBC would be less, but don't quote me on that last part about the OBC.

  11. I have a calendar count-down - for the days, but since retirement is still a ways away, I'm using my marble jar. Each marble represents a month....I started with 48 marbles, I'm down to 12. When I lose all my marbles I'm out of there! Official retirement date is January 31, 2019 but I've kept enough vacation to be able to walk out the door at the end of November 2018. I'm not wishing the days away but I'll be very happy when that day arrives.

Congrats to all who have retired this month!

Some cool ideas here, marbles ,paper clips etc. I am not gonna have much vacation time when I leave. They

only let us carry so much from year to year and I use mine. When I run out I will have to retire anyway. [emoji16]
