....and only on those items listed as "Signature Services".

Maybe mine didn't qualify.  It's too late to do anything about it, but I did get a mani and pedi which I believe are signature services.  Those should have been discounted at the gold discount level as it was a port day.

  2. Question for those of you who are platinum, do you make your reservations as the specialty restaurant and tell them you are platinum so you can get the free meal?  I see two of the perks are dinner at Cagney's or Le Bistro and dinner at Moderna or La Cucina.  We're booked on a western Carib out of Miami in December and this will be my first cruise as a platinum member.  I discovered I should have gotten a discount on spa services on my most recent trip as a gold member, but they didn't give me the discount and I didn't realize I was due for one.  That would have taken a nice chunk off of that spa bill!

  3. I was pleasantly surprised with the air chosen by NCL.  I expected the worst, but as soon as I got my confirmation numbers I was able to log into the airlines, connect my mileage program, choose my seats and even in the initial flight upgrade my seats.  They also allowed one checked bag pp, which I was expecting to have to pay extra to check bags.  I know I've read where others have had a bad experience, but ours was just fine.  We did have a long layover in Miami coming home, but I had checked other flights and unless they were going to use Southwest, it couldn't be helped.

  4. I must have missed something when I was on the Escape in 2016 and Adrian was the concierge. Nice enough guy, but what was it that made him above and beyond? I'm not sure I understand why he is considered so fantastic. Nice enough guy, smiled when I walked by, but I don't recall a greeting or personal attention. I was solo on the Escape and I don't even remember talking to him. I only encountered an assistant when I canceled a tour. I had much more interaction with my butler and remember him fondly.

  5. Thanks for this important thread. I am sorry for your pain. It has got me thinking. I am looking thru our trip insurance thru NCL. Seems like it only covers trip cancellation, interruption & death & dismemberment ugh! Doesn't say a thing about having medical issues. I would guess I need another policy for medical issues? Are there policies out there that cover both? Looks like more research is in my future but does anyone know offhand? Thanks.

Hello fellow traveler! Look at Insuremytrip dot com. They will give you a lot of options.

I can't wait till our trip!

  6. I had never purchased trip insurance prior to my last planned trip. I was traveling with my mom, who is still quite young at 78, but there was always a chance she could fall or something would happen. Well, as it turned out, the day before we had planned to leave MY retina decided to detach, so I had emergency surgery and we were unable to go on the trip. I'm still waiting to get the travel refund. So when I planned my next trip, which is a Baltic cruise with my husband, I definitely purchased the trip with the same company as noted by OP. Hoping I don't have to use it, but this trip is such a major investment, I didn't feel like I could go without it.

  7. You may have said this already and I apologize if I missed it. Did you do any of the NCL excursions, or did you book third party. We now have some shore excursion credit and I'm looking at options. I hate to lose money, but my experience with NCL excursions in the Caribbean is that they were just 'okay'.

I'm really enjoying your pictures. I did search for your camera type. I want to purchase a new point and shoot as I have a Nikon D50 and I'm not sure I want to lug it around. I'm a wanna be photog, I'd love to do it, but I'm just not that good.

  8. I'm interested in hearing from anyone who may have used the ships shore excursions for the Baltic Cruise on the Getaway this season. I was planning to use third party for most ports, but now I have some extra shore excursion credit and I wonder if it is worthwhile to take the ships excursions. I'm specifically interested in Helsinki and Stockholm. I'm committed to third party tours in St. Petersburg and Talinn.

Any info you may have on ship sponsored tours would be greatly appreciated.

  9. I went in October thinking there would be a lot fewer kids. Well, school was on break that week (week of Columbus Day) for many and there were a lot of children on board the Escape. And we were sweating it out, because a hurricane was headed for Florida and did in fact affect cruises out of Port Canaveral. I was out of Miami, so I managed to fly in that morning and board the ship. The two other times I've sailed were early november, from Galveston to Cozumel and also from Galveston to Cayman and other places. The seas where terribly rough on the trip in November. Many people, including crew were seasick.

While I haven't done it, I think September would be an excellent time to go. You get great fares and yes, you take a chance on a hurricane, but just purchase your trip insurance.

  10. I've' had inside and OV on Carnival and Haven on NCL. I booked Haven again for upcoming Baltic trip because it was a wonderful experience for me. If I could afford to travel on one of the small high-end ships I would do that in a heartbeat. I don't like to be around crowds and I absolutely cannot stand children running wild with no adult supervision. I'm fortunate to be able to go at times when most children are in school. But the Haven is a special treat for me. Since we are traveling to the Baltic, I wanted the trip to be extra special for my husband. I enjoy having the perks of the snacks, the movies, being able to board and disembark with priority. And in cases where I can afford it, I will do it. However, if the choice is no cruise or a cruise in a Balcony, OV or even inside, then I will take what I can afford, because any day at sea is better than a day at work.

  11. Danish Viking,

You have been so helpful to so many. Thank you very much. Is tusind tak the correct phrase for thank you?

Anyway, I could read through everything, but I'm on informtion overload. We are flying from Brussels to CPH on September 18 and lodging at the Stay Seaport for the night of the 18th before boarding NCL Getaway. I've looked at Copenhagen Card and bus routes and I think for our purposes a taxi is probably better, especially dealing with luggage. It comes to about $60 USD according to the fare finder you so kindly gave us a link to.

The STAY seaport is fairly close to port, but I'm concerned about nearby restaurants, as we will arrive around 6 pm. Dinner time, but I don't want to deal with luggage while we eat. Are there decent restaurants close to STAY seaport (Murmanskgade 15, Copenhagen 2150) I checked yelp and it appears there may be several within a mile or so. Any particular recommendations?

    Thank you
