  1. Just wondering about a swimsuit should I wear one under my clothing for swimming. If there is swimming whats the water like I heard Dominica has black sand so you probably can't see the bottom like other islands. I'm thinking the water is cold too is it?

    Thanks

Yes -- wear a swimsuit under your clothing. Your other option is to hide behind a tree to change because he'll take you to secluded beaches where there are no public facilities or change rooms. The water was not cold (you're in the carribean!). Woody used to swim in the Olympics so he'll probably go for a dip with you (he did with us). We had a wonderful time. My only advice is to plan ahead if you want him to stop for lunch somewhere... he has snacks and beverages but if you're like me and need to EAT, plan a stop for lunch ahead of time with him.

  2. I just returned from Antigua - a stop on the carnival victory

I pre-booked the Segway tour and Joe came to meet us at the pier when we docked. He helped us into a taxi to their office - he beat us there on the Segway. We were driven to the where the tour would begin - We did CONQUERERS of the FORT and LOVED it.

We spent time learning to ride the Segways - practiced on an obstacle like course and took off. We had Joe in front leading and Kadesh in the rear. We rode on all kinds of terrain and the frosting on the cake was when we took the Segways onto 2 beaches - the 2nd one was where EVERYONE from our ship was hanging out and they all stared in wonder at us on the beach on our Segways. We ended at the Fort where we toured before returning to the training area. We went up to a bar/restaurant for a drink and conversation before we were returned to the ship.

Question -- I have chronic lower back pain... did you find your back hurt from driving these Segways? Did any of your muscles hurt afterwards?

  3. Hello "KateMah". No long hikes. Just short walks. We circled around 75% of the island (not the southern part where the tourist buses tend to go). He showed us a map of where we were as we went along. Cost was $220US for 2 people for the entire day. His e-mail address is: adquatics@yahoo.com. Snacks and beverages are included but lunch is not included so you might want to let him know you want to stop for lunch somewhere if you are the kind of person who needs to eat. Best to e-mail him directly with your questions. His English is flawless.

  4. On Feb.10th we had a private island tour of Dominica with Woody Lawrence and we truly enjoyed ourselves! His LandRover went off-road onto private beaches and to a private waterfall that only about 5 people a week get to see! Truly "Off The Beaten Trail".

If you're looking for a private tour that will take you where no tour buses will roam, then I highly recommend you contact Woody. His e-mail address is: adquatics@yahoo.com

  5. I just returned from a New Years cruise with the Grand Princess. I wanted to book Victor because of all the recommendations on cruisecritic.com, but he was unavailable and gave us Wilson instead. Like you, I was unsure, but it turned out to be one of the most memorable days of my life. Upon Victor's recommendation, Wilson took us to a ziplining place ($45 each) that does 22 ziplines and bridges -- much better than the 7 ziplines offered by the cruise ship. We also went to the iguana farm ($5 each) and it was worth more than that. Then we went to Half Moon Bay to eat lobster and snorkel (good for beginner snorkelers). Equipment rental $7. We paid $150 for an airconditioned van for the day -- yes that ended up be a pricey day. But given the extra space (there were four of us and one of us is bigger than the average joe), the air conditioning, the fact that the driver spoke English and that he took us where ever we wanted to go, well, you just can't put a price on that kind of flexibility. I mean, Wilson waited for us whenever we stopped somewhere for a drink and guarded our belongings in the van. We felt safe and looked after. I know if you look at www.boddentours.com, you will find several letters of recommendation regarding Ben. If you're not sure about using Victor's services, just "google" his name and see HOW MANY people have asked the same questions as yourself (and myself, before my trip!). Roatan is a great place if you want to get back to nature, away from all the commercialism and shopping and crowding you find in other ports.

FYI- this was my first cruise and first time to Honduras.
