If anyone's interested in seeing photos from our August 3 - 10 trip on Jupiter, my photo galleries are here, with captions: https://pbase.com/roothy123   You don't have to sign in or anything pesky like that, just look.  But you'll need to look at separate galleries for each place we visited - i.e., Reykjavik through Heimaey.  And be sure to push the "All" button at the bottom of each gallery to display all pictures for that gallery.  (In other words, there are multiple pages.)  The photos are mostly of places we went on excursions.  I didn't take a lot of photos on the ship. But for those still traveling to Iceland, it may be helpful to get a preview of some of the things you'll see and do.

Thank you for the lovely photos! We’re enjoying the cruise vicariously through you!

My concern is that at our age we may not be Capable of traveling next year depending on health issues. We say go while you can nobody ever knows.

Exactly. It’s been two years since we cruised, and have missed three trips. Our energy levels and ease of walking and sitting are not the same. We will go now if the ship sails.

That camera was fickle for shots of me when I tried it, but it captured our cards easily.  But we have printed labels, not handwritten info for the vaccine dates/type/lot. If you try it again, close up, steady, no glare, camera level) and it fails, I'd try to get a new card.  Or if you can get a good picture and get it on your computer, I think you can upload that instead of using the app. Or if all else fails, I THINK someone reported that you CAN wait until you do check in with Viking.  But I may be thinking of the Comfort Check in process rather than VeriFly - so please check.

Thanks for the advice. I drove to the health department this morning and got a new card. All set to go now!

Well, our reward for getting covered in mist (I call it rain but it was very light so I'll accept their description of mist) was seeing puffins on our RIB tour today! Our guide said puffins love the foggy mist and if it was sunny, they'd go out to sea so we were then grateful for our misty weather.  The tour was a blast and our guide Bjorn was excellent. We also had a fun captain who played great music and gave us a wild ride. Our guide told us the baby puffins are left behind when the parents leave in late August or early September and they come into town because of the street light that get their attention, so they rescue thousands of them each year. We had on full body rain gear so wear a lighter jacket as mine wouldn't fit under the suit so I left it in their storage room. I was plenty warm with just a long sleeve shirt under their suit. So another tour I'd highly recommend!

Thanks for this review. I am wondering how rough the ride is. I have a bad back, but still hope to do it. Thanks! Lynne

I just hope that Icelandic airport authorities won't single me out as they did for years as THAT GUY.
In past decades, every time I hit Heathrow, Frankfort etc. I would be called out of line, surrounded by 3 or so security personnel who questioned me for 15 minutes and searched my carry on. My best guess was that my red hair and whatever had me somehow profiled as an IRA type person. Hair no longer red.

    Must have been the sunglasses!

    Embarkation details

I talked to tellus@Viking on a different matter and she told me the following as best as I could jot down the info:

Official embarkation does not start until 11:00am.  They MIGHT let you onto one of the outside decks before that but you will not be able to leave that area (to make spa arrangements etc) until 11:00.

Once you set foot on the ship you are in the Viking bubble and cannot get off.

You cannot go to your room until 3:00

Some kind of "program" will start around 5:00 giving you info about the rest of the cruise so you do not want to be there later than that (unclear whether this was an in-person program or televised).

On disembarking, you have to vacate room between 8:30 and 9:00.  She didn't know whether we could hang out in some public areas on the ship or not after that.

Anyway, that's what I was told for what that's worth

    Hello,

I tried to email tellus@Vikingocean.com with a question, but the message did not go through. What did I do wrong?

Thanks in advance.  Lynne Westerholm (readsalot)
