Makapu'u Point is 5 miles or so from Waimanalo Beach so it depends on what the cruise line is calling "Waimanalo".

Along the same lines, what does "seeing Diamond Head" mean? Driving inside the crater? Hiking Diamond Head? If you don't hike Diamond Head, you don't really "see it" in my book.

Understanding the details of the itinerary is important.

Not really interested in hiking it. I was hoping to just view it while driving by. Not gonna happen, huh.

They are not the same thing, when you say Makapu'u Point are you talking about hiking to the lighthouse? Or is it just a scenic drive by? The Waimanalo stop I’m assuming is a stop at the beach. Waimanalo beach is one of my favorites on island.

The drive by. Wow, I can't believe this is the first time I have been back on since September.

  3. I am trying to decide between shore excursions through Princess Cruises. One goes through Waikiki, Hanuama Bay, blowhole, Waimanalo, and Pali Lookout and the other goes to Diamond Head, Hanuama Bay, blowhole, Makapu'u Point, and  Pali Lookout.  I like the idea of seeing Diamond Head vs Waikiki, but I don't know much about Waimanalo vs Makapu'u Point. Any suggestions?

Update: I just looked it up and they are the same thing. Is that true?

I was lucky enough to visit Havana in April 2019 just before Trump ended cruises to Cuba.  I think/hope Biden will return to the Obama policies regarding Cuba. Havana is the ideal replacement for Key West since they just voted to ban cruise ships. Of course none of this is possible until COVID is way behind us.

I had no idea Key West banned cruise ships. What's the reason?

  5. Hi. Hubby and I rented a 20' RV a few years ago and loved it. We are not sure if we want to buy an RV or just rent. What are some advantages/disadvantages to buying vs renting. I definitely want to do some heavy duty traveling. He'd rather buy an airplane instead, so I need some bargaining chips.

To give a more accurate answer, are you looking at the Pride of America or a cruise from the mainland to Hawaii and back?

Probably Pride of America, if that is the one that starts and ends in Honolulu.

I have cruised on HAL and Princess.  While both are premium lines, I prefer Princess overall.  Princess has more activities, the onboard atmosphere is friendlier and the ship’s interior and exterior are beautiful.  Holland has slightly better food and excellent service.  I would go on both lines again, but my ❤️ belongs to Princess.

I prefer Princess as well. We should cruise together. :classic_biggrin:

If you are curious please take some time to check out each companies website.

    What does the price include?

airfare, port fees and taxes, excursion in every port, all beverages, alcohol, a butler for your cabin, specialty restaurants, prepaid gratuities, $600 OBC?

Some of these include 5 or 6 of these 9!

The alcohol being covered is probably nice, although we don't drink much.

We have had wonderful cruises on Princess, Celebrity, Crystal, RCI, and Carnival that all compare very well to HAL.

Yes, there are differences however we  enjoy those differences.  There are still a number of cruise lines that we want to try.  We do not cruise fore more than 21 days.  Neither of us can imagine being loyal to any one cruise line.   There are simply too many great ships and cruise lines to try.

Yes, there are. It's fun to get a variety of experiences.

Speaking as a single woman traveling alone, I love HAL because I feel safe at all times, even on tours.  The ports are so interesting, and the lectures informative.  Where else could I learn about the origins of Tango or Mata.  As mentioned, the staff is attentive, knows my name by the second day, and go out of their way to make me feel comfortable.  I am not impaired at all, go on tours that require lots of walking, and love to learn anything.

The other thing that differentiates HAL from other cruise lines is their use of fresh flower arrangements all over the ships.

I can totally understand that. Very few crazy folks on board. I did see lots of, I think they were, orchids. Very lovely.
