I didn't even know you had any books of mine.😀

Glad you are following along.  Love to you and Ed.

Hi kathi, Ed says hi too. 😃The books are the two written by the cruise captain. Sorry to read that you will miss some ports. Hope they fix the visa situation fixed so that you might enjoy India.
This virus has everyone in a state back here.
    good luck and hugs,

  2. Hi Kathi,

just found your live from, and in turn the blog, about a week ago and I was so happy yo be able yo follow you.
I tried to sign up to subscribe to the blog, to no avail, so I will respond here.
I also did NOT intentionally steal your books you loaned me. I just couldn’t find you on the last day of the 2018 WC. So when you get home you can send me your address and I will either meet you or I will send them.
    PS I loved them.
    hugs Cyndi

  3. I'm doing some research before I book this cruise for my DW and myself and had a few questions for those of you who have done a WC before.

    1) My wife has allergy problems with many laundry detergents. Are there washing machines and dryers on the Amsterdam that passengers can use? We have a "Scrubbi"(sp) that we've used on shorter cruises but the idea of using that for 4 months for a good portion of our laundry isn't very appealing.

    2) For those items which can be sent to the ship's laundry, is laundry service included in the cruise fees?

    3) I haven't called HAL yet but does anyone know if visas are required for any of our stops?

    4) What inoculations would be required for this cruise, especially with the Africa stops?

    Thanks for your help.

You might think of bringing a small bottle of vinegar to add to the machine, and put it in the fabric softener slot. I do this all the time, as our family has issues with allergies too. And no things don't smell lik vinegar! 😁

  4. Yes, there is an additional charge for removal of shellac, but I don't recall how much it was. It could have been in the neighborhood of $15-$20 additional, but I won't swear to it.

I went in with bare nails, and had the shellac manicure for $45. Two and a half weeks later I had another, but had the additional charge, then again the same after another 2 1/2 weeks.

Manicures now do add a service charge on to the bill automatically. There was a time when they didn't, so be aware of that before you make a decision on adding more.

Thank you Ruth C for answering me so fast. I ran into this on another cruise and I was shocked,,, so now I know and I will be prepared, and I didn't know they add service charge, that is good to know too. I will need to have them/nails done at least once. Did you find the service good?

    Thanks again,

    Cyndi

  5. We just found out that you can no longer get pages added to your American passport! They changed the rules as of 01/01/2016.

We only have 10 pages left in ours, we can't seem to get any info on how many we will need, so I guess to be safe we will get new passports, for our cruise 2017.

Maybe some of y'all may have more info, if so please let us all know.

  6. We were on a 49 day cruise around Cape Horn, and we did well, but I did have to shop for a few things,,

Stockings, extra ones, as the ship runs out after the first formal night! Never found any, and no one in my group had any.

    Playing cards

    Crazy glue

    Scotch tape

Small stand for your smart phone, to use as a clock at night, and then if needed as a flash light.

  7. I realise that this post was almost a year ago but I feel that a reply is deserved to point out the other side of things...........

We take long cruises, and I would LOVE to get pedis, etc on a cruise. But my experance has NOT been good. I happened to get the same person on two different ships, and all she did was insult me and my feet, and then complained about the U.S. not letting her get of in St, Thomas, as if this was my fault:p. Then she pushed the products soooooo hard, that I would NEVER buy just on principle, and I was once a top seller in direct sales! You don't have to do that.

So the spa needs to police it self, I was afraid to report her, as I didn't know what she might do.

The salons have been mediocre in there ability, to do basic things, but hay, when your on a 49 day cruise, you take what you can get:D. I still love to cruis, but as you said there are two sides.

  8. I'm sure you didn't mean to but your end comment seems like a wet blanket. We did not pay the full price for a suite and so we feel at the price we paid it is definitely worth it. As I said earlier, this is our first suite and our first cruise of this length and our first Princess cruise. We are looking forward to enjoying the whole experience and counting our blessings as many don't have the opportunity to cruise at all.[/quote

I just wanted to add my two cents here. I think you will LOVE. The suite! We booked and paid for a VS suite on our 49 day cruise around Cape Horn. And we were VERY glad we did! All the perks mentioned are correct, and I agree that Sabatinies is the best. Also you get to use the Spa, those wonderful chairs, I can't think of the name...we have two more suites coming up and have booked 5 or 6 in the past, so we think it is worth it!

  9. Having done both, I agree. :)

For those who have booked with Patrick Watts in the Falklands, you have the choice of paying in US$ or in £. I would strongly recommend exchanging your $ for Bank of England £ before leaving home. The reason is that we booked almost a year in advance and by the time we took the tour, the exchange rate had changed dramatically against us. Patrick insisted that we pay the originally quoted US$ which was over $50 more/pp than the exchange rate at the time of the tour. That was a big surprise to me since I'd assumed, incorrectly, that if we paid in $ that it would be at the current exchange rate for the quoted £. Hope this makes sense.

Thank Pam you are a wealth of info :D
