  1. Thanks for the web address .... unfortunately, it is a better deal to rent a car thru Costco when we arrive on 12/4 in the early am (red eye), drive to Galveston, pay to park at port, pick up car on the 11th, spend the day sight seeing and return it at IAH before our flight ..... Guess that's what we will do!

We are finding that this is the cheapest option for us in September too.

  2. Hi there.

I'm looking for some advice/help with making a decision about where to spend my Beach Day when stopped in in Falmouth Jamaica with my Royal Caribbean cruise in a few weeks.

I've already booked (but can cancel) an All-inclusive excursion at a fairly new Blue Waters Beach club.(not many reviews about this place)

It looks good; however I've read some mixed reviews about it: shortage of chairs, no shade, minimal food etc, but the beach looks nice and is close to port. (Thoughts?/experiences?)

Others have directed me to Bamboo beach Club all inclusive which appears to be okay as well, with some mixed reviews: smallish beach, limited food, swimming maybe not the best etc.(thoughts/experiences?)

I know I can't expect the world for my beach day but I'd like to have the best experience possible (not for an unlimited budget though)

So can someone chime in about another option proposed to me:

Rose Hall Hilton All Inclusive Day Pass (ideally purchased through Resort for A Day tour company)?

It looks like an interesting resort with perhaps better looking pool/water-slides/lazy river than the Beach area? Is this true?

What about value/quality of food and drink/service etc?

Did the transportation to/from work out well?

What are your thoughts/impressions of the place?

My quoted price is $117 US (am a Canadian so i'm getting dinged for exchange) and hope to get some feedback here from others about Rose Hall Hilton (and hopefully Blue Waters and bamboo Club) so I can make the best decision.

I would appreciate your advice/experiences and assistance about what beach Day choice would be best.

I have read many reviews yes, but I'm hoping for responses that would help me to better compare them.

    Many thanks.

We booked Hilton Rose through Resort for a day a few years ago and had a great time. Transportation was great to and from the resort. We didn't use the beach area, we floated in the lazy river and went to the swim up bar all day. We are going back in Sept. and plan on going there again. Jamaiican jerk chicken there was awesome.

    Have fun!!

  3. Hi Deb! You're a disney fan too? I'm a huge Mickey fan! (and all disney) Do you live in FL? we're in Jax.

The closest beach to the pier is Morningstar beach which is at the Marriott Frenchman's Reef hotel. You will see it when we are coming into port. I hear good things about it on here, very close and about a $6 cab ride. Check it out.

ALso I hear that Lindbergh (emerald bay) beach is very close too, about $12 cab ride. We may be doing that as well since our time there is limited b/c I want to take the Sky Lift too, I"ve never done that. Are you on our blog here for Roll Call? I've been posting on there frequently. Are you signed up for the meet & mingle? I hope to meet you! We'll be on deck 8.

    Have a great day!

    Lisa

Hi Lisa, Thanks for the information. I'm a huge Mickey and disney fan. We live in California. We have been talking about the Sky lift too:) Yes I'm on the roll call and signed up for the meet and mingle but the others we are traveling with are not. A lot of us are on deck 6.

You have a great day too! Deb

  4. Hi

We will be docked at Havensight, R/C Freedom on March 23, Wed. The only ship scheduled to be there that day!! This will be our 3rd time in St Thomas on cruise. 1st time took Sunny Liston tour and went to Megans Bay. 2nd time chartered a sailboat for the day (was not easy getting back and forth from ship to marina at Red hook) last year we took taxi to Coki beach. It got really crowded within an hour or so of arriving there. So, this time I would like to go to a different beach. Please tell me what you recommend:

1- beauty (nice view, pretty water) and easy to get taxis to and from (we are there 12-7) (shade or umbrella available)

    2- bar/facilities available

    3-chairs

So, should we go to Sapphire, Smith Bay (Lindquist) or Emerald (Lindburgh)?

    Thanks for the advice!

    Lisa

Hi Lisa, We will be with you. We are wondering if there is a beach that you can walk to from the pier. We are traveling with 22 people and a few small children so dont want to take a taxi to the other side of the island at that time of day. We have been to St Thomas many times also so just looking for a relaxing beach day. Thanks in advance, Deb

  5. Just an FYI to cruisers. Southwest will extend their schedule on June 30th, and Jet Blue will extend theirs on July 8th. I'm sure there are people waiting to book airlines after these schedules open.

Any idea how far out? Thanks, Deb

  6. No smoking on the balconies of any of the staterooms?

Although the policy states no smoking on the balcony, has anyone experienced guest smoking out on the balcony? Just wondered?

Yes, just off a b2b and the second week we had smokers next to us. After a few days I complained to guest relations and it was handled promptly. No more smoking neighbors:)

  7. On the second week of a B2B on the Freedom. Last week, no signing out of towels and no charges. This week- new Hotel Director- you must sign out your towels with your sea pass and the $25.00 charge is back.

Just back from a B2B on Freedom. First week Feb 23 we used our sea pass for towels and then the second week March 2 we didn't. Sounds like a random thing, looks like every other week here.

  8. Yes we stayed on Eastern time. In St. Thomas and St. Maarten it was an hour later - so if you do private tour at 9:30 it was 8:30 ship time. But you had more time in the afternoon than you thought before getting back on the ship.

I have never had such problems with the time difference.I spoke with a Royal Caribbean rep today and she said our itinerary states we are in St. Thomas from 12-7 and that is local time, not ship time. So ships time on arrival will be 11am? We have a sailing at 1pm and just want to be sure we aren't arriving at 1.

    Thanks, deb
