    Disappointment on the Ruby.

    We were on Ruby over Thanksgiving. I do agree the food has gone down hill. The ship is tired, it is showing its age. It had a great personality all the times we cruised her. That is gone. We cruise Princess before the takeover and now you can see how Princess has loss its class. We are elite but looking at RC and Celeb for future cruises.

    So we are sailing on the Infinity from Vancouver on June 19. Which ship scheduled to arrive in Ketchikan during that week will be diverted from the piers and have to tender their passengers to shore?[/qu

     

    The website I use to see what ships are in port shows your ship getting to Ketchikan after the other two ships leave.

     

    I didn't double check the accuracy of that site with any others, so I won't say it is 100%, but the site usually is pretty accurate.

    Discuss Implementation of Smoking Policy

    I'm not a rabid anti-smoking nutcase, but this ship's a floating ashtray! Specifically, our room (as all are now) is non smoking, however this policy was only recently changed, and our room reeked of stale smoke. And no, we could not change because the ship was full. My wife had to get up numerous times during the night to get fresh air. We asked the steward to help, and he did spray some chemicals, but these wore off within a few hours. We even found a cigarette but on our balcony, so we know it was used as a smoking room previously. Secondly, you must walk through the casino to pass fore or aft on that level which means you must walk through the cigarette smoke whenever you need to pass. Also, the doors to the casino are left open, so the entire Piazza, and certainly Crooners bar reeks of smoke. The aft bar also allows smoking , so once again you are inhaling it. Lastly, the outdoor exercise area where you can walk around the ship allows smoking, so if you want to walk around or exercise to get some fresh air you are out of luck, because Princess allows smoking there also! So many people were complaining about the smoke - stay off this ship!

    It is like this on all the ships. Only our cabin did not smell of smoke.

    Does anyone know what side of the ship Princess alows smokin areas? I am booking a balcony room and want to make sure I am on the opposite side. Thanks.

    If you book an odd number cabin you will be safe. But since there are only certain areas that smoking is allowed any deck below Lido will be safe anywhere on the ship. Smokinhg areas are on the right side (starboard) of the ship.

    Just got back from th Crown (1/29/12) and the Ruby (2/4/12). I am a smoker and only smoked in areas permitted. We had balconies on boh cruises. I checked several times a day, and could count less then five people on the balconies. I don't understand why when so little are using the balconies, that Princess could not set aside certain cabins with balconies to be able to smoke on.

    I went to the Neptune pool on both ships to smoke. Cown had very limited seating but on the Ruby more seating. My complaint is the cigar smoking, which is only allow in the Speakeasy lounge, in those areas and on aft of deck 15. If they are not going to enforce that, why would they enforce other rules. The cigar smoke, by the cabin on Lido deck hallway was over powering.

    As far as cabin steward turning you in, they won't. If you cancel your tips, the cabin steward has to make them up in the pool. On one cruise talking to our cabin steward he told us he had six cabins of Europeans cancel their tips and he had to make it up to the pool. He was one of the best stewards we ever had.

    We have 28 cruises on Princess, the Elite really doesn't mean much on a seven day cruise. The min bar has cheap whiskey on it. Free internet, we never used all of our time. Laundry, don't need it on a seven day cruise.

    I have seen the quanity (food and service) of Princess, since 2002 to today, go downhill. To many cruise ships out there, drop the price to fill the ship, drop the quanity.The best way to increase profits is to cut expense, and that what Princess has done.

    Will I cruise Princess again, probably, but will look at other options as I done in the past.
