We just returned from an 11-day cruise on the Noordam. Trivia was held every evening in the Crow's Nest from 7:30 to 8:00, and I think there was usually trivia in the afternoon as well, although we weren't usually around for that. My husband and I always played as a team of 2, and we played most evenings. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and had lots of fun. Ours scores ranged (out of 15) from 3 to 11. I know - 3 is pretty low. But we were close on so many answers!
On the evening that we scored 11/15 (we were ecstatic!) a man who we had not seen at any other trivia games made a point of coming over to us after the game and asking 'how we had gotten the answers - were we using the internet to help us?' He seemed befuddled that we could have possibly won the game. We were equally befuddled by his reaction and simply shook our heads at one another.
We certainly didn't take the game too seriously, nor did anyone around us other than this particular person.

I used to lug water on board but I don't bother anymore. It's something else to carry and can be quite heavy.
I either buy it on board, drink from the tap, or get what I need at the Lido buffet.

Thanks for your speedy reply, Pam.
Our tour begins at 8:30 so hopefully we will avoid too much heat.

We will be visiting Doge's Palace on Saturday - are there any dress restrictions? (i.e. can we wear shorts and t-shirts). Thanks.

Oops... I guess it wasn't an upgrade but an upsell. Still, I think we got a pretty good deal.
"No-host mini-bar for easy entertaining" - does this mean mini-bar in plain language?

We are sailing on the Noordam next week. Today we upgraded from a Verandah Stateroom to a Signature Suite (SS 6092).
What kind of perks can I look forward to having booked a suite?
We are so excited about our first HAL cruise. The information on this board has been incredibly helpful with our planning. :)

Generally the fish in fish & chips will be haddock in Nova Scotia and cod in Newfoundland.
Reading this thread has me craving fish & chips!

Oh, I almost forgot - the last couple of summers a place called The Battered Fish has set up a mobile location along the waterfront (again, near the ferry terminal). In my opinion their fish & chips is a bit better than Stayners.

In Halifax, go to Stayners for fish & chips. They are located along the waterfront right by the ferry terminal. Excellent fish & chips.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll pass on renting a cabana. :)

Hello,
We have just booked our first HAL cruise (Noordam April 26) and I have been reading some posts on here about cabanas. Could someone kindly explain the ins and outs of cabanas. Thank you.

Hello,
We're cruising on the Noordam in April/May and we're trying to decide on shore excursions. Has anyone ever used the company Cruising Excursions, and if so, how was your experience? The prices are more attractive than the ship sponsored tours and my research so far indicates that they are a reputable company. Looking for some first hand experiences though. Thanks!

We were on the Noordam earlier this month and ate at Canaletto once. It was - by far - the best meal of the entire cruise. We loved everything we had:
Canaletto Salad
Potato Gnocchi
Braised Chicken Cacciatore
Trio of Tiramisu
The service and food were both wonderful. Enjoy!
