  1. I have read many stories about people having problems with credit cards not being charged properly on ncl, so I think I'm going to use cash. I saw the post about $300 pp for a 7 day cruise. I also saw that if you purchase obc, they don't show up for a couple of days.

So when do we give the $300 per person ? At the dock before check in?

Anyone who has used cash instead of a credit card , please let me know how and when this was paid.

    Thank you:D

We just did this a few weeks ago on the Getaway. We paid $600 cash for the 2 of us. They will not take your cash at check in. We had to board and go to guest services. I think I could have paid less as the person who actually took my cash didn't seem to care how much or little I put down. We had a 250 obc, so we had $850 available on our account as soon as I put the cash down.

The last day, before we disembarked I went to guest services and got back what I didn't spend. To me, this was worth the peace of mind of having my debit card messed with (holds) as I don't use credit cards.

  2. Is the Glow Party only for adults or are kids allowed to join too? I thought I read somewhere that it was family-friendly, but isn't Spice H2O an adult-only area of the ship?

We have a 5-year-old, so if kids aren't allowed, we won't be going. I just don't want to take up precious packing space with white clothes if we don't need them.

Kids are allowed, but as the party goes on it gets more Adult as the kids start to leave for bed.

  3. The Wed afternoon forecasts keep the trend of a weak system moving near or north of the islands from Saturday to near the Bahamas by Monday. So the ship would likely go through an area of increased showers / thundershowers on its way to St. Marteen....probably north of the Dominican Republic or Puerto Rico Sunday.

We are on the Getaway sailing 8/9....Im hoping we will be ok also.

  4. The dress code is the same in every dining room, except Le Bistro and one of the main dining rooms.

You are actually incorrect to say that shorts are allowed in the free places, because they aren't in one of them (Tropicana Room on the Getaway). They are allowed everywhere else, other than Le Bistro, including specialities.

    Decent Jeans are allowed everywhere.

Having said that, whilst you wouldn't be out of place in Taste or Savor wearing shorts, you would be in Cagneys for example. It's allowed, but people do tend to dress up more for those venues.

Thank you very much for answering my question. I have to admit I was expecting to get beat up over asking about jeans and shorts

This will be the only cruise I have ever taken that I want to dress "down" most of the time. Im bringing ONE nice tie / slacks outfit and 2 polo shirts to wear at Cagneys and Bistro.

I want to be "resort casual" the rest of the nights. I am tired of wearing suits etc.

  5. Don't beat me up but I have a "jeans / shorts" question.

I have never cruised "Freestyle" before, and always dress up during dinner, but I wanted to dress down for a change on my upcoming NCL cruise. I know shorts and jeans are allowed in the buffet / free dining rooms etc, but what about the paid dinners?

    Cagneys, Tepenyaki etc?

What has been you guys experience before?

  6. Travelers insurance is a great purchase. At $99 per person I have the peace of mind knowing if I get hurt / sick etc I am covered

My wife nearly died while on the ncl Dawn back in 09 and we had to disembark in Samanna. She spent 2 weeks in a Dominican hospital. That "waste of money" travelers insurance covered her medical costs AND travel home to include a travel nurse.

I won't go on a cruise without it. I just spent 3 grand on a Getaway cruise, so what's another $198 to insure my wife and I?

  7. For openers, this was a comped cruise through Total Rewards. We paid port and taxes (about $600) and stayed in a comfortable inside room on deck 11. We have never stayed in expensive rooms and probably never will but I am envious of those who do. That being said, I will give a brief overview of our cruise. Feel free to ask questions,. We did not do everything onboard as I am sailing again on the Getaway solo on 8/9 (just a fluke) on a comped cruise through CAS so I wanted to save some things for that.

We drove down from Cincinnati on Friday and spend the night about 3 hours north of Miami at a Hampton Inn. We never go wrong with Hampton, the price was right and the convenient breakfast was there when we got back on the road about 7:00 a.m.

We parked at the port and proceeded to check in. It went swiftly, we probably were on the ship within about 30 minutes total (around 11:00). We always buy the spa package and I was ready to book it sight unseen. DH wanted to see it first and was disappointed with it. This is a highlight of the cruise in the terms of relaxation for him. There were a lot more chairs but the water amenities were lacking from what we had on the Epic and even some of the smaller ships like the Pearl. In addition, it was crowded at times and so noisy as passengers were in the pool and trying to scream over the rush of the water. Not at all relaxing. We missed the individual rooms which had some hot tubs or at least relaxation areas for men/women separately. For the $199 each it was just not worth it to us and we did not use it nearly as much as on previous cruises. We also missed the outside area on the Epic.

Lunch was in O'Sheehans which we frequented throughout the cruise. It was the same as usual, consistent but nothing to get excited about. They did have specialty nights and DH tried the prime rib but said it was tasteless. More about food later. Need to get laundry started as back to work tomorrow.

I look foward to ready up on this review, and i will be sailing on the 9th as well...cant wait, 19 more days :)
