  1. I would do it.  It is a 7 day cruise and you would really be able to enjoy the extra space and wrap around balcony.  You could spend all your on board time there without having to go to the Lido deck for sun loungers.  I received an offer for a jr suite for 350, which was not a great deal because it is bascially the same as a balcony.  But for $100 more ($450) I could get an ocean view suite, so I took it.

  2. Does anyone know the cost to upgrade from the drinks on us promo to the all-inclusive non-alcoholic package? I received my invoice from my TA, and it shows that we were charged $161 to upgrade DD, which works out to $23/day or the full package price. On the other hand, DH and I were each charged $182 or $26/day to upgrade to the deluxe package, which sounds correct. I put an email in to my TA, but wanted to see if anyone here can shed some light on the situation.

According to Website it is $26/day per person.

  3. I am going in two weeks, I will report back how it was. I did a TA in 2015 and we had 23 ft waves and 98 mph winds. It was a roller coaster to say the least, but no where near as bad as the Nor'easter I experienced on my second cruise.

  4. Yes, but they have a limited selection. The four pairs of alcohol can be traded for more of another one. That is two scotch can be traded for two vodka. The same is true for the others, 2 cokes can be traded for 2 diet cokes. Cokes cannot be traded for scotch.

    That makes sense. Thank you.

  5. FYI, the gifts that some agents give comes out of the commission they receive from Princess...so in essence YOU are paying for your own gift! I prefer an agent doesn't give me a gift but the best rate possible and rebate back most or all of the commission!

    Tony

They cannot reduce your rate by their commission. All they can do is give OBC or gift(s).

  6. I've never heard of anyone receiving one of each item. No, a Mini Bar setup consists of two of each of the following:

    Courvoisier VS

    Beefeater Gin

    Skyy Vodka

    Dewar's Scotch Whisky

    Dos Equis Beer

    Coke

    Sprite

    Tonic Water

    Perrier

    Bottled Water

This is regardless of how many or the ages of those occupying a cabin. The only exception is when a suite is occupied by elite level cruisers, in which case they would receive two Mini Bar setups.

I am going on my first elite level cruise in April. Can we trade out items we don't like for something else? I am looking forward to the free laundry because we will be on a 15 day Hawaiian cruise. It will help lighten the luggage load.

  7. Have been to both Germaine's and also to Paradise Cove (I think that's it). Preferred Germaine's so much better.

We went on a bus with the hotel in which we were staying. We got there a bit late and missed out on some of the prelimiaries (looking at beach, etc). I recall it being a rough ride. But I'm not much of a complainer and I can take a lot.

I will just say this. I enjoyed Germaine's much more than the Paradise Cove. The setting was so much more intimate than it was at the other.

I think you will enjoy it.

I am so glad to hear this. I booked it for our cruise next month. I only had two must do’s on the cruise - Pearl Harbor and a luau. The rest I am going to go with the flow.

  8. Of course people can dislike specific ships, you do, I do, everyone does to some degree. My point about the negative posts, was that when the thread is talking about the good or not so good points about that ship, and someone leads off with another cruise line and their ships wonderful points, it implies something, to me at least.

A less important question would be, how do you dislike a ship for invalid reasons?

Invalid reasons??? There are plenty of valid reasons. Vista has many design flaws, ebbed John Heald was commenting on some of them in the Q&A we had on board.

    1. Only one elevator to top deck where the adult area is and two to the deck below that where the expensive spa balconies were.

    2. Movable seats in Liquid Lounge which basically eliminated 1/3 of the seating in the lounge which already did not have enough seats for the number of passengers even with two seatings.

    3. Blue glass in lounge obscuring views from upper level.

    4. Human speed bumps (metal joints) that kept tripping people entire cruise. Made my first trip to medical center in 30 cruises.

    5. Comedy lounge way too small - who wants to stand in line for two hours to get in and if you are lucky get a seat.

    6. Sports Bar also too small. Maybe sat 25 people.

    7. Hiding the hallways behind stairwells interesting idea, but confusing.

    7. Fun trying to find Cucina El Capitano and Jijis, if you are unable to take stairs from the buffet area, like my parents.

    8. Making dinner reservations on deck 5 go to Deck 3, on opposite ends of ship, another brilliant idea especially for those with limited mobility.

These are only a few very valid reasons.

I have been on older smaller ships better designed than Vista. It was like a little kid designed it and wanted to see how much stuff they could jam into it. If the ship were larger, it may have been better. It did not stop me from booking Horizon. I am interested in seeing if they fixed any of the design issues.

Loved Matt and Cookie. Had a great cruise with my family and friends, but expected this ship to be fantastic but it fell short.

  9. I love new ships but Vista was a huge letdown. I was spoiled by going in Anthem just a few months earlier. It completely blew me away. I had take some classes on Vista and could not wait. I booked a group on her the day the reservations came out. Every one in my group (family and friends) all said agreed about the ship. They also experienced Anthem with much trepidation after Vista experience and fell in love

  10. Lol! I guess you’ve never sailed a RCCL Oasis class ship! 6,000 passengers! But totally awesome! Just not every person’s cup of tea!

The ship is way too small for everything they tried to jam in it. Oasis and Allure have over 6000 passengers yet never seemed crowded at all. Vista on the other hand was like a can of sardines.

  11. Princess and Royal Caribbean are about equal. Among the mainstream cruise lines Celebrity and Holland America are a notch up from Princess and Royal Caribbean..

Alaska I would only book Holland America or Princess.

Princess was the best cruise I have ever been on (32 cruises) and my family says same. I did Celebrity in Alaska and loved it. I love Royal and I am considering Ovation to Alaska next year. I would never again do HAL, unless I was over the age of half dead.

  12. Well then explain to me exactly why my two most recent RCI cruises which, again, are about $500 in total cost between each other, have a $400 difference in OBC, and why you seem to have one travel agency offering you a considerable amount of OBC, and another one offering you next to nothing. So no, you have very little idea about it. I’ve booked and been on about 10 cruises myself, and there has been no correlation in OBC with regard to how much the cruise booking itself cost.

There can be specials running at the time or a group amenity for a cruise when it is quoted. There really is no rhyme or reason to it. There is a limit to what agencies will allow on top of what they offer, such as 5% of total price is max I can offer on my own.

  13. I agree with this statement. Im not loyal to any line and shop around for TAs although I have used mine from a big cruise internet site for the last few years for 2 cruises a year.

Anyway, My last CCL sailed was Breeze two years ago. I had Vista Havana Cabana booked for next month. On top of my cabin, I had booked spa passes for two and alcohol package for two. The cost of that booking was higher than MSC Seaside Yacht Club. I stalked the MSC site and constantly watched for a YC cabin to open as it got closer to final payment. One opened and I booked it. I canceled my Vista cruise and still saved money with the loss of my ES rate deposit. So, yes, I agree with you. The CCL newer ships and cabin classes when adding on extras can come in line with NCL, RCCL and MSC (where I am getting two included alcohol and spa passes with my YC booking).

Good move. Vista was the worst ship I have sailed on in 32 cruises. The ship layout was horrible. Service in MDR was horrendous. My cabin was larger than the Comedy lounge and sports bar. You have to make YTD dining reservations on one deck at rear of ship just to go to another deck at the front of the ship. If you take elevators closest to where you make reservations you cannot get to the YTD dining room because the MDR is in the middle. If you have mobility challenged people this is not good. The human speed bumps kept tripping people all cruise - metal floor plates that are usually flush with the floor were raised 1/2-3/4 of an inch. I had my first trip to medical facility on board in this cruise. Hallways were hidden behind stairwells, but if you picked the wrong one you would have to go back to the stairs to get to other side. It was a mess.

  14. OBC varies depending on what the agency allows. If I am only going to make $45 on a sale, I am not going to give you $50. Many of the commissions are under $100 so there is not a lot flexibility. When a lead comes thru the agency it is much less than when someone comes to me. If you are nice to me, I will be nice to you, but all OBC offers have to be ok’d by Agency. I do send all my clients gifts on the ship and to their house.
