  1. Just want to share a quick experience we had with Capt. Bob on the 12th of this month. We sailed on the Reflection and were booked on his snorkle excursion. Waters were a bit rough and when Bob met us on the dock, he advised us of same and offered a refund should we not want to go out. We went out with Ty and could not have had a better experience. On our way to our last place to snorkle, we came across a pod of dolphins who allowed us to hang out with them. Swimming with dolphins in their natural enviornment trumped any snorkle time that day. This doesn't happen every day so we all considered ourselves very fortunate. Whenever in St. Maarten, I know who I'm boating with!!! And did I mention the KLM 747 taking off while we were 50 yds off shore? Crazy!

  2. I was addressing the issue of notifying the cruiseline. You are CHANGING the reservation from double occupancy to single occupancy if you notify the cruiseline. You MAY be rebooked in another cabin (depends on the waiting list for the cruise). Has nothing to do with insurance.

Went on a cruise in 92, cabin mate got ill and canx the cruise. Stayed in the cabin without any adjustments. Friend was reimbursed. Guess the key is not telling the cruise line.

  3. I have been told NOT to cancel the other person in the cabin. You are essentially CHANGING the booking to single supplement (which MAY save some money). BUT since you are changing the booking, you may also loose your cabin and be rebooked into something else.

DH THINKS he wants to go on a cruise (booked more than a year in advance). Then at the last minute, he bails. Twice he has done it to me. I was SPECIFICALLY told NOT to cancel his booking or I could find myself in another cabin (QE2-Jan 2007). I was told to just say he had to cancel at the last minute and there would be no problems at check in. There were no problems with X-I just had the cabin to myself (January 2004-SA). And I had a severe allergic reaction to macadamia nuts on the flight, so I missed the QE2 cruise as well.

It's one thing to bail out because you don't want to go and another thing to die or become ill. Ins canx policies are quite explicit when it comes to reasons acceptable for canx a cruise and simply not wanting to go isn't one of them.

  4. Tara,

We're going on Celebrity's Summit out of P.R. in Jan. '09. Bonairre and Aruba are two of the islands. We also love the ABCs but the other islands on this cruise are great as well. We're doing a family and friends cruise of about 40 people and plan on having a great time.

    Good luck with your hunt.

We have a TA who has been taking care of our cruising for 25 years and, knock on wood, without incident. She also lives and works from her home bus. which is 1500 miles from where we live.

    Enjoy your cruise!!

  5. Tandoorii, thanks much for the effort you put in to that list. It's a great check list and allows those cruisers (such as myself), to keep abit occupied while waiting for the clock to move faster towards cruise date.:D If and when I find myself not interested in a tip given by a fellow cruiser on this site, I simply scroll down to the next. Happy cruisin' Tandoorii and keep this stuff comming!!!!
