  1. Our guide took us to the Pork Pit for lunch. Man, I could hurt myself in that place, it was AWESOME! The jerked conch wasn't as good as the pork and chicken, but still good. It was cooked in foil with okra. Strongly reminded me of a little Texas BBQ joint. We got two combos (jerked chicken on one, pork on the other, came with a drink and rice and beans) and conch on the side. My wife had a soda and I had a beer, whole meal cost $15 as I recall. Good thing they don't have one here. I'd weight 400 lbs and be munching Lipitor all day long :( .

We stopped at some little joint somewhere along the line to relieve ourselves and get something to drink and our guide Richard Robinson (I believe his name was) treated us to some patty, chicken and beef. That was awesome as well. Sorta like meat cooked in a sopapilla. Could have made myself sick on those as well. Jamaica has its faults, but they sure make some good grub!

    Have a great time,

  2. Wow.

This all sounds so wonderful, I have just finished reading the entire thread. I will be on my first cruise on the Jewel of the Seas is March 2008.

Even though I have not cruised before, reading your posts have filled me with that "peaceful easy feeling" that one gets when they are totally relaxed, and at peace within themself and the world. I know that I shall enjoy myself - with every aspect of the cruise, including charming teenagers knocking on my door and running away.

It's just like going to Vegas. If you can't have fun on a cruise you're hopeless!

  3. Wow, lots of horror stories! I've only been on one cruise so far, but I don't remember having anything that was really terrible. One night the lettuce in the Caesar salad was really bitter, but the other 2 or 3 times I had it it was fine. The chateaubriand I had tasted like they'd soaked in in worcesthershire sauce a few days, really strong. Only time I've had it, so don't know if that's how it's supposed to be or not. I was a little disappointed the one time I got a pizza after hearing all the raves about it. It wasn't terrible, just a bit undercooked for my taste.

I guess the only really bad thing I got was the coffee. UGH! (But that's why I ALWAYS travel with my own little coffee maker and coffee ;) )

    Sus amigo,

  4. One of my favorite things was just sitting on the balcony listening to my MP3 and watching the sea. I especially like the flying fish. Blew me away first few times I saw those. Kicking back listening to any kind of music (I've nearly everything except ©rap on that little gizmo) I want. Only thing that makes it better is enjoying the finer spirits of Scotland and maybe a good cigar. ;)

Man, I gotta go put some Jimmy Buffet on now.

  5. This is a topic that leads to some spirited debates!:p Folks seem to be split down the middle on what to do. Personally if I'm on foreign soil I'm carrying it with me, but many folks advise not carrying it for fear of losing it. Guess you just have to figure out which option makes you more comfortable.

    Have a great trip!

  6. Apparently there is a considerable number of folks that like to dress up and eat lobster. So what?

I was reading a review of the Conquest a couple days ago, and this fellow was just ape over the hamburgers and pizza and couldn't wait for the next meal to get some more. Now for myself, I plan on finding something more exotic to eat on a cruise, but if that's what the guy likes, who cares? It's no skin off my nose. I'll eat his second rate lobster.:D I'm a steak snob, but I'll still take a second rate steak over a first rate pickle loaf sandwich.

You wanna see some lousy lobster, try the midnight special at the Fremont in downtown Vegas. Looked like a couple of overgrown mudbugs wandered too close to a nuclear warhead test! I've made beef jerky that wasn't that tough. I won't even comment on the "steak" that came with it. Somebody ought to let them know they're supposed to cook the INSIDE part of a dead cow, NOT the outside!

    My 2 cents.
