Yes, you can pay for Cheers using a combination of payment methods, including gift cards and credit cards.
You can use a gift card for your S&S account and add cash or credit card during the sailing if needed.

While I don't know how old your son is - here is also a suggestion: get him a muster bracelet at guest services that the children/infants wear. In case he is separated in an emergency situation the crew can get him safely to his station. We did that with my special needs dd until she was able to remember and communicate where the cabin/muster station was, or know her way around the ship.

Buying it for your own cruise - It's a way to give Carnival a $500 interest-free loan that you cannot get back if you don't spend it all. It makes no sense to me.
The main intent is let's say you're going on your honeymoon cruise, folks can buy cruise cash for you as a gift.
The math works better for me to purchase a $500 gift card from AARP a few weeks before my cruise at a price of $450. I don't normally earn $50 in interest from my banking institution in two weeks. I've been cruising a long time and really understand my spending habits so generally $500 is enough for us for a week long cruise. By purchasing cruise cash I skip the step of going to guest services and adding the gift card to my account. For this particular cruise, I wanted to add an additional $500 because I have a specific item that I would be purchasing and wasn't aware of the cruise cash limitation of $500. Thanks!

What are the advantages of "Cruise Cash"?
We purchased a $500.00 gift card from AARP for $450.00 and added $500.00 in cruise cash. This eliminates the step of adding the gift card to my account on the ship. No biggie just was hoping to eliminate that step.

TIA
It appears that the maximum amount of cruise cash I can add to our cabin is $500.00. Are there any other ways to add gift cards to a sailing without adding them once on the ship at guest services?

You need to have special permission from Carnival, and I don't think they are giving it. You could just leave the ship, but, you could be given fines onboard the ship and such and banned from all futire Carnival, and carnival corp sailings.
What? Where did you find this information? LOL

I've done the Vista three times and Mardi Gras twice. If it's about the ship, Mardi Gras all day.

Do they sell those all of the time or only part of the time?
I've never seen them not on sale when I needed them, and I've been purchasing them for years. I don't spend a dime on Carnival without using an AARP gift card.

If you are eligible to use the AARP gift cards, it's equivalent to getting 10% off.

Honestly, a reason why you have insurance and travel with a passport. It really isn't that expensive! Hope they make it through it.

Anything that you could imagine could happen. The cruise could be canceled, ports changed, cruise shortened.

Carnival Logo Gift & Ship Pin
Please visit our Photo Gallery to claim your Carnival logo gift and your Carnival ship pin. We encourage you to claim your gifts no later than two days prior to the end of your cruise.
We also want you to know that given our focus on meeting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) requirements and implementation of new health and safety protocols, we will need to adjust how we deliver some of the VIFP priority benefits, as follows:- ONLINE CHECK-IN – All guests will be required to complete Online Check-In, which will open 14 days prior to sailing. Platinum and Diamond guests will be given 48 hours advance access to select their preferred Arrival Appointment. Please visit My Cruise Manager on Carnival.com starting at 16 days prior to sailing to complete your Online Check-In and select the Arrival Appointment that works best for your plans.
Due to additional embarkation day processes, all guests will have to arrive promptly at their Arrival Appointment. Regrettably, we cannot accommodate any early arrivals and guests will be turned away and asked to return at their assigned time.- STATEROOM ACCESS – Due to enhanced cleaning and sanitation, staterooms may not be ready at the time of boarding for the early Arrival Appointments. If you have not checked your bags, feel free to quickly drop off your luggage while our crew puts the finishing touches on your stateroom. This will allow you to complete your e-mustering process and start your vacation promptly.
- WATER SHUTTLE PRIORITY – Priority water shuttle debark will be provided subject to local guidance at the destinations we visit, which may change without prior notice. Our team on board will keep you informed of the debarkation plans for each port.
- CASINO – Although we are currently unable to host casino tournaments on board, you will be given US$25 in Casino FunPlay®, in addition to any other FunPlay® you might be entitled to as part of your booking.
- DEBARK – We will do our best to offer priority debarkation, however, this may not be possible if we have unusually high numbers of Platinum and Diamond guest on board.
That was very nice of you Old Fart's 🙂

Drink Package on Vista for July cruise - bars too busy?

It varies, just like any restaurant or bar on land. I was on the Vista recently at full capacity and sat alone in the sports bar for over an hour with just me and the bartender. Another day, I attempted to go in but couldn't because it was full.
