  1. I just saw this post Sunday afternoon and wished I had known the show was available on Friday.

    I did a search and found out that in my area (Nova Scotia, Canada ) it is on CBC again Monday morning at 3 am.

    I have set my DVR to catch it.

    Wanted to pass this along in case it may allow others who may have missed it a chance to see the show.

    Thanks,  just tried that and it is a  great tip.

    I like that I only have to enter the search term once and as I advance through the pages I can click highlight all and will even be shown how many matches appear on that particular page.

  3. Very frustrating thread with not having the ability to even search by ship name.

    I read a couple of posts where people mentioned that there was a search option under the "Page # of # " but all that seems to do is allow you key in a page number and jump to that page.

     

    Would be great if the thread could be searched by ship at least,  I can't see that having to open all of the currently 21 pages and scrolling trying to spot the posts regarding a specific ship is really useful.

     

    If there is someway to search the thread please share.

    I read November 2018 as well.

    Over Thanksgiving in 2018 the Emerald Princess did a round trip out of LA November 20th to 25th.

    Seems like a long time ago for this to be getting time on the news now.

    I guess the bed bug lawyers are really busy and backed up.

  5. The trick is to remember you can only use 1 cruisenext per cabin per cruise unless you book balcony or higher, or they have a promotion.

     

    While I like the balconies, they often would add $2-3k to the cruise cost, and we’d rather have more trips to more destinations for the price difference. So we usually pay for inside or oceanview and get another vacation.

     

    However misunderstanding on my part that we wouldEACH be able to use a cruisenext certificate means we have 3 expiring next year with not enough vacation time to take 3 cruises ... unless we waste (or use) them on a couple 3-4 day Bahamas trips as Norwegian doesn’t have cruises to some of the places we’re planning vacations to (Normandy D-Day 75th anniversary, for instance)

    Another thing to remember about the cruisenext certificates is that They can only be used for a sailing that is 6 days or more. That would take the shorter cruises out of the options.

     

    Another topic that sometimes gets discussed is if the certificate amount can be applied to an existing booking.

    We have had the cruisenext staff onboard tell us that if we purchase the certificate it can be applied to any sailing , even ones that we currently have a deposit on.

    Did not purchase the certificate because I just did not believe them, all the wording in the agreement states for future bookings.

     

    I'm sure if we did try to use the certificate for a currently booked cruise we would be told that we would have to cancel and rebook.

     

    That may or may not be a good thing depending on the current rates and promotions but did not want to take a chance.

  6. We have done 3 back to backs and how they handled the muster varied.

    We were in the same cabin for both segments each time and all 3 times we were told that we had to attend the muster drill at the start of the second cruise.

     

     

    Only the last time when we showed up to the drill and checked in at the muster station they could not find us on the list.

    The staff doing the check in asked if were on the previous cruise.

    We told them yes and were told that we could leave if we wanted as there was no need for us to attend the second drill.

     

     

     

    We have another back to back this fall and if we have to do a second drill we won't let it bother us.

    While the drill is going on there is not really anything going on anywhere aboard the ship anyway.

    Was just starting page 2 of the discussion when I noticed the replies were several years out of date.

  8. We managed to do it once a long time ago on one of the early Epic sailings.

    We had booked an inside cabin and as soon as we boarded we headed right to guest services.

     

    When we asked if it was possible to upgrade to a balcony the NCL staff member (I remember her name - Kitkat) took our card and scanned it. She then wrote a cabin number on a slip of paper and gave us a key card to a balcony cabin.

    We were told to have a look at the balcony cabin and if we would like it they would upgrade us for $200.

    Not $200 each but $200 for the cabin.

     

    We looked at the cabin and went right back down to customer service and they put the $200 charge to our onboard account.

     

    What is really funny is the new balcony cabin was right across the hall from our originally booked inside.

    I think when Kitkat scanned our original key card she looked for the closest balcony to our original cabin.

    The location worked out perfectly as our luggage was delivered to the wall outside our original cabin.

     

    We actually met our cabin steward when we were looking at the balcony cabin.

    He came in and was surprised to see the door open as he thought it was going to be empty.

     

    We have tried to upgrade a few other times that we had booked an inside cabin but never were able.

    On every other sailing the service desk had a sign stating that the sailing was sold out and no upgrades were available.

  9. I was looking at the website for the Manhattan terminal parking and it says that most parking spaces from the previous cruises are being vacated by 10 am on debarkation day. That frees up parking spaces for the next group of passengers embarking that day.

     

    I am hoping to park at the Manhattan terminal from May 4th to the 6th for a 2 day sailing on the Bliss.

     

    The previous weekends passengers from the Gem (approx. 2400) and the Escape (approx. 4200) who have parked will not be freeing up the spaces until May 5th and 6th.

     

    I have never even seen inside the parking at the pier.

    Is there any chance that any of us boarding on the 4th will find parking space at the pier ?

     

    I know there are other options but think the convenience of parking right at the pier can't be beat.

  10. There is a chance that the amount of tax for a particular drink may be different depending on the state you are closest as well.

     

    We noticed on a cruise from Boston to New Orleans that we were taxed 49 cents for the 16 oz. beers we ordered while still docked in Boston.

     

    On the last night while we were close to New Orleans the amount of taxes for a mudslide frozen drink was $1.10.

     

    I know the cost of the mudslide is higher than a beer but they are not twice the cost.

    That has me thinking that the tax rate is higher for drinks sold in the waters close to Louisiana than the area near Massachusetts.

     

    I seem to remember a thread a while back that talked about taxes for cruises out of Texas being taxed differently than say a sailing out of Florida.

  11. We are booked on the sailing you are looking at ( Epic TA - Nov 2018).

    Also booked the 7 day round trip Barcelona cruise the week before the TA.

     

    A couple years ago we did a back to back ( Med. / TA ) on NCL Spirit that had the first sailing start in Venice and the second sailing was from Barcelona to Port Canaveral. Total of 28 days.

     

    Really enjoyed the sea days.

    The CC roll call for the Spirit cruise was a very active group and we had a lot of planned activities to supplement NCL's daily activities.

     

    I know the Spirit is much smaller than Epic but I seem to remember hearing that we only had maybe 12 children onboard for the TA portion.

     

    All of the cabins were sold for the TA sailing but the ship did not feel crowded. I am thinking that there were not many cabins with more than 2 passengers and know that there were several solo passengers on the sailing.

     

    Never had a problem finding seats for any of the evening entertainment.

    The passenger mix seemed to be a little older crowd than we found on shorter 7 and 10 sailings . Seemed like by 10 pm most lounges were half empty.

     

    Looking forward to the cruise. We have sailed on the Epic three times previously and like the ship .

  12. We always leave them in the cabin or sometimes drop the tray at the buffet if we are going that direction. If left in the cabin the stateroom attendant would usually remove them when servicing the cabin. I say usually because on one sailing the attendant simply removed the dishes from the cabin and just set them on the floor in the hallway.

  13. Welcome to dealing with NCL where the answers can change by the hour.

     

    We had that question last December while on the Escape.

    We were sailing on the Escape and asked about purchasing a certificate .

    We asked about the ability to have it applied to an upcoming Dawn sailing that we had currently booked.

    Planned on applying the certificate after we returned home and it was issued.

    The cruise next person on the Escape said there was no way to do that and the certificates were for new bookings only.

     

    We did not purchase a certificate.

     

    A bit after we returned home we called NCL to apply a payment for the upcoming Dawn cruise.

    While on the phone with the NCL rep we asked if would be possible to use a certificate purchased on a sailing done after we had booked the Dawn.

     

    They said that we did not have any certificates on file.

    Explained that we did not buy one and why we didn't buy one but were just curious if it would have been accepted.

     

    We were told that if we had purchased a certificate on the Escape that we could have used it as a credit on this already booked cruise.

     

    If we asked the same question but to a different NCL rep it may have been a different answer.

  15. Booked All Wesr Beach Hopping Tour for November. Has anyone done this??

     

    Not sure if the tour you are asking about is the short 3 hour $25 tour or the longer tour they offer.

     

    We did the short tour with Irie a few years ago and had a ball.

     

    We are doing that same tour again in a few weeks.

     

    The company seemed very organized and the guides we had were great.

  16. We have sailed many times on NCL and we both have the same number of sailings so are at the same latitudes level. I remember at least one cruise where our cards where different colours. Same cabin , same number of sailings but the cards were different. Made it easy to grab the correct one off the desk when leaving the cabin.

  17. Ha. I hear what you are saying.

    Pretty sure the stuff they pour at the auctions is worse than the bottles they give away during the games in the lounges.

    We have never attended one of the art auctions ourselves.

    My friend tried to talk me into it on the Liberty but I said no thanks.

    I could think of lots of better things to do.

    Chewing tinfoil for example.

  18. We always print out a sheet with some details of the trip. One of our names, Flight numbers, pre/post hotel - address & phone number, ship info and our cell phone number. A few years back we started to include a web based email address (gmail, hotmail etc). We started adding the email address because we found that once our cell phone would not work on the local network. We knew we cold still check for an email by using a public wifi hotspot.

     

    We have been very lucky on our trips.

    Only had to deal with lost luggage once but it was BOTH of our checked bags. This was on a 90 minute long direct flight that we checked our bags with the airline 2 hours before the flight departed. We flew in the morning prior to the cruise sailing. The airline found our bags the next morning and they got them to us 30 minutes before we had to board the ship.

  19. We sailed on Carnival's Liberty a few years ago with a couple that were on their first cruise.

    The husband heard someone mention that they offered free champagne to folks that attended the art auction.

    That was all he needed to hear for the two of them to highlight the auction in their Capers.

    He told me that they arrived early to get a good seat and one of the hosts came over to chat with him and his wife. He said the host made a comment about how some people only attend the auctions for the free drinks. My friend replied back that he thought that was awful and commented how can someone be so cheap.

    He was chuckling while he told me and then I asked him how many glasses they drank and how many pieces they bid on. His answer - 3 glasses each and zero bids. He said he never sat so still as he did when the bidding for a piece started . Fearful a sneeze or hiccup might be taken as a bid.
