  1. We enjoyed our Alaska cruise. We are from Vancouver, so alot of the landscape we see is 2nd nature to us. Although the glaciers (hubbard) were spectacular.

We are glad we took this cruise, but probably would not venture back anytime soon.

Looking forward to the sun of the Caribbean or new itineraries left on our bucket list.

  2. We have cruised with both sailaway cabins and regular priced cabins (which includes the perks)

For us, it depends on the price difference.

Although we are not big drinkers, we estimate the average price of a drink on NCL is $12.00 (including the 20% gratuity), $10.00 plus grat of $2.00), We probably average 4 drinks a day or $48.00 per day.

The price difference was $420.00 or $35.50 per day on a 12 day cruise.

On a inside cabin with the ubp as a perk, that made it worthwhile to upgrade to an inside regular cabin. It also gave us the distinctive package (internet, excursion credit and phone calls) and double the latitude reward points.

On our 7 day cruise, the price difference was $600.00 ( sailaway vs reg cabin with a perk), We would have to have 50 drinks or 7 drinks a day to make it worthwhile. We kept our sailaway cabin and paid for our drinks, which was about $275.00.

  3. just got off the getaway.

took a van from the miami airport to the cruise ship terminal with 4 others waiting as well for $10.00 each.

left the ship around 8 am and found another van with 4 others for $10.00 each and were at the airport at 8:15 am.

in both cases, we were approached just outside the airport and cruise ship terminal.

i guess we just lucked out.

  4. Going on an Alaska cruise in July 2016 on NCL. We're taking the excursion train ride from Anchorage to Seward. I have some questions for those who have taken this excursion. Are the seats on the train assigned ? If not, then do you just find a seat first come first serve style? What about food and drink on the train.

We took the train from Anchorage to Seward last Summer, this was an NCL excursion and left from the airport in Anchorage and literally took you right to the ship. (end of the rail line).

We registered at the airport for the ship and sail card, so at the end of the train trip, just walked on the ship.

Each train car had a dome and you were seated with a table in front of you. similar as if you were in a diner.

there was a server for each car to bring you food and drinks (order off a menu). The server was also the tour guide outlining all the sites as you made your way on the trip.

Great scenery, wildlife and glaciers throughout the trip.

    Highly recommend this excursion.

  5. Hi,

I am a first time cruiser sailing NCL Sun from Seward to Vancouver on July 4 2016. Are there any good shore excursions offered by NCL that veterans here recommend? Or should I just look for deals outside of those offered by NCL. Appreciate your time. Thx

We took the same cruise last summer. Had a great time.

In Skagway, rented a car and drove to Emerald Lake in the Yukon. (about 75 miles each way).

The rental car lot (Avis) is a short walk from the cruise ship terminal.

nice scenery and even encountered a Grizzly near Emerald Lake crossing the road.

  6. We are the family from Canada that debarked from the Valor when we got to St Martin last week. Three years ago we did the same cruise and got off in St Martin. This time we were told by our travel agent before we left that we would not be allowed to get off the ship so booked flights to return at the end of the cruise in Puerto Rico. As mentioned we did ask at guest services if we could possibly take our luggage off and leave at our accommodation when we were in port and then continue the cruise. We were told we could get off the ship whenever we wanted as long as immigration cleared us. The night before we were to arrive in St Martin we gave the guest services our passports, the address of where were going to stay and proof (airline tickets) that we were indeed leaving St Martin. The next day we took our luggage to the counter and were given our stamped passports and told to have a nice stay and left the ship.

    Hope this helps.
