I traveled on the Uniworld Remarkable Rhine & Historic Holland cruise in October 2023, and I truly enjoyed the trip. The Jewish-themed excursions, however, were a mixed bag. Some of them weren’t offered due to scheduling conflicts—specifically, on Saturdays (when Jewish guides were not working and Jewish institutions were closed) and on Mondays (when German museums were closed). Unfortunately, we only discovered this once we were already on the ship, as the information provided prior to boarding turned out to be incorrect. Additionally, a few of the tours were led by non-Jewish guides who had limited knowledge of Jewish history and culture. On the other hand, one experience stood out: the visit to the synagogue in Cologne. It was particularly moving to have the chance to speak with a synagogue member. Moreover, exploring various synagogues and mikvehs—some in ruins and others repurposed into museums—was fascinating.
