  1. My family of 4 was booked to sail on the Norway February 1993...our first cruise. We had booked our air with NCL out of Albany, changing planes in Baltimore the day of the cruise (we were newbies!). We got stranded in Baltimore due to snow and missed the ship. But NCL said, "we have another ship going out tomorrow, would you like that one?" I didn't care where the ship went, just get me some sun!! ( and NCL covered our hotel and meals that night!) So they put us on the NCL Dreamward sailing the next day...it was later stretched and re-named the Dream. They didn't have any cabins for 4 left so they gave us 2 cabins for 2 each...yay!. On the way home more snowstorms...we left Miami on Sunday, I walked in my front door Tuesday! 7 airports later!!

Even after 30 cruises I still wish I had gotten to sail on the Norway!

  2. Just got onboard the NCL  Bliss from the Celebrity Equinox. We tried getting a taxi to take us from one to the other. But the drivers said they weren't allowed to do so...not surprised because they have to wait so long on line for a fare, and our ride would have been so short.

But good news! There is a free shuttle you can use...it's an unmarked white coach with a sign in the window "Complimentary to Parking Garages". We had checked with the ladies who are organizing the taxis in front of the Celebrity terminal and one of them  called the coach driver to stop for us....it's free but we gave the driver a nice tip for taking us to Terminal B.

  3. We'll be coming in on Celebrity Equinox and need to get to NCL Bliss (same day-February). Is it possible to walk from one to the other? We have wheeled luggage and don't mind walking if it's safe. I  don't know if a taxi would want to do such a short trip and then have to get back at the end of their line to get their next fare. Are there walkways from one terminal to another?

  4. Just off the Sky Cuba. As platinum we had priority boarding and the 30-minute wifi. We didn't get any priority in Havana debark groupings, but when we got to Great Stirrup Cay we were able to get on the first tender as platinum. There was no available info ahead of time about the tender priority; we just had to ask at Guest Services the night before.

We usually get yellow luggage tags for our debarking, but this color wasn't available when we asked...not sure why. So we just took the color best suited for our morning plans.

It would have been very helpful if there was an info sheet in our staterooms for all platinums that spell out what you do and don't get on these sailings because it seemed that we got different answers from different staff members.

  5. Just got back from the NCL Sky which overnights in Havana. You can come and go as often as you like. On our first time getting off the ship the Cuban passport control booth takes your paper visa (both parts) and keeps it. You also go through a metal detector. After that, any time you leave the ship you again go through the passport booth and show your passport and go through the metal detector and off you go. Very easy....and the currency exchange counters are just down the hall. And that also was quick and easy. At the end of your visit you can convert Cuban currency back to your preferred money.

  6. Old Havana

We booked with Fertours ahead of time...Fernando was very quick to reply to my emails beforehand. On the morning that our ship arrived Yusi met my sister and me at the plaza directly across from the pier. We had a morning walking tour of Old Havana, a stop for lunch, and a car tour afterward. Yusi came along as well and pointed out all the sights for us. Our driver Ignacio was kind enough to take pictures of us at Revolution Square with his bright red 1950 Olds convertible in the background.

The full tour including the car ride was $60 pp., lunch was separate. Yusi's English was excellent and she was quite knowledgeable about any question we had. Also, I had tried booking an evening dinner reservation ahead of time on a restaurant's website with no luck, but a quick email to Fernando and he was able to book it for us.

A very welcome and enjoyable day in amazing Havana.

  7. Another option in Miami is the Hampton Inn Airport South/Blue Lagoon. They have a free airport shuttle and a shuttle to the pier for $10pp. There's a shopping center across the street that includes a Publix and several casual eateries...we liked the Cantina Grill. There's also a Walgreens on the opposite corner. The early Feb. 2019 rates are around $200 and include free BK and wifi. It checks off all our boxes.

  8. We just got back from the Cuba cruise. I booked a private tour (2 people) with fertours (google it). A full morning of walking to the various plazas, lunch (not included) a bit more walking after lunch, then a classic car ride for about an hour...$60 each total. Our guide was excellent and her English was fine. We booked it ahead of time and payment wasn't required till the end of the tour. The driver dropped us off back at the ship.

For lunch she took us to a rooftop hotel (Hotel Ambos Mundos)...great views but the food was quite overpriced and poor quality. Better to just go up there for drinks and the view. We did dinner on our own at Havana 61, which we booked ahead of time. The meal and service were outstanding. Dinner for the two of us, one drink each and a shared dessert came to 30 CUCs.

  9. We booked one on the Silhouette last year for a sea day to get some shade. But it turned out to be so windy up there that we couldn't keep it open....the wind finally calmed down in the early evening. But we didn't need it by then. I don't think I'd bother again.
