My mom and I are looking to come back to Vancouver (before and after an Alaskan cruise) - most likely the third week of June (but could be the 10th - still not sure) Can anyone suggest a hotel near the airport for the first night and then one downtown for 1-2 post-cruise nights? It would need to be in a safe location and not outrageously priced. Thanks!

I guess taxes was the wrong term. I was talking more about resort fees - some charge $10 per person per day, or other things like that. I do realize taxes are paid no matter what. Thanks for the different breakdowns though. Has anyone had a horrible experience booking through Priceline?

My only question about priceline is that once you bid, then they add on all of these fees (varies per hotel), taxes, etc. so you really don't know the true price until after you have bought it. Any tips on how to get around this? Thanks!

It seems the reservation person mixed it up. I had read on Travel Zoo that the room was 121 and if you upgraded to a different room (with a better view) for $40, you would get the $50 credit. When I called the girl I spoke with told me that both rooms had the credit, so I booked the cheaper room. When I got my confirmation, it did not mention the food credit so I emailed and they told me that room doesn't include the meal credit. Do you suggest I look elsewhere? Thanks for your advice!

I just got an email from travel zoo about the Loden Hotel in downtown Vancouver. They are running some specials. I called and got a room for $121 (US) which includes local car service (if available) and a $50 meal credit at their restaurant. This seemed like a great deal to me. Does anyone know this hotel? It looks wonderful - I just thought I would pass along the deal in case anyone else was interested. It is good all summer, any day. Any info on the hotel would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

My mom (72) and I will be coming to Vancouver in early August. We will be on a cruise/tour in Alaska that ends in Vancouver. We decided to stay for one night to get a glimpse of the city. We are looking for recommendations for hotels that are in a safe area, and are reasonable. We also wonder whether we would be better off staying in downtown Vancouver, or near the airport. Our flight does not leave until 5 the next night. Also, any tips on things to do and see in Vancouver would be greatly appreciated. What is the weather like in early Aug? Thanks for your help.
