I think the issue nowadays is how crowded it gets.  Example:  If you look at the schedule below, there are five cruise ships in port tomorrow.  Plus, there may be a couple of more that were scheduled for Cuba that were re-routed.  When you have 20,000 - 30,000 people all getting off in a port, the crowds can be pretty miserable.

Can I ask where you found this information? Is there a web site that will show what ships are in which port each day?

Well, Ft Sumter IS part of the national park service, so yeah they kind of run it. (the boats out and back are not NPS but contracted to take people to the fort) Don't know how much more time you need out there. There really isn't much out there, once the rangers give their little talk and you walk around a bit, there really isn't much else to see. (Ft Moultre is much more fun to wander around and explore in my opinion). As far as the Hunley goes...you only get to see the sub itself for maybe 5 minutes, the rest of the tour is just the history of it and what happened to her. Total time, maybe an hour. Not really worth the time and expense to get there if only in town for a few hours. If in town for a few days and have a car (assuming here on a weekend) then absolutely go and visit. (especially if it is a rainy or hot summer day).

I would like to visit Ft. Moultrie. Can you tell me about how long a ride it is from the cruise port to the fort? I want to make sure I have enough time. I'm also wondering if I should take an Uber or if there are any sort of tours that run there. Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

  3. We felt comfortable the whole time. Our most uncomfortable was the starting point, Municipal Mercado Food Court. We were there early and alone for almost an hour. The taxi ride there was fine ($10). Once the folks from Amazing Cozumel Race arrived, we felt very comfortable and safe. You see them almost every stop plus you are given a cell phone if you feel you get lost. They warn you which streets not to pass in order to remain safe. If you are comfortable with a very good city map you will not get lost. Locals cheered us on as we raced. The end of the race is along the seashore and felt very safe as we walked until tired and hailed a taxi back to the ship ($8). We did it independently off RCCL Liberty of the Seas. Carnival Cruise Line excursion experience would certainly be even more comfortable.

    Thanks for the information!!

  4. I'm sorry your experience was so bad. We just returned from a cruise and our visit to St. Lucia was wonderful. We booked a tour with James Tours and he was right there to meet us. We were quickly ushered away from the port area so I guess I didn't experience what you are talking about. The island is beautiful and the mud baths were so fun. I bet if you give it another try with a specific booked tour you will change your mind.

  5. We just returned from a cruise to Cozumel and had a tour with Aldo at Tours Plaza (11/12/16). Our tour lasted almost 7 hours and it was the best tour I have ever taken. Aldo was the best!!! I can't say that enough. We went to the Tequila factory, the chocolate factory (25.00 fee and we got to make our own chocolate), several monuments, a fabulous lunch (a place Aldo recommended), snorkeling, and shopping. We learned so much and enjoyed every moment of this tour. I would book this again in a heart beat.

  6. We just sailed to Bermuda and spent one entire afternoon with Colin. He spent 5 hours showing us his island. It was a great tour and we had a fantastic time. We let Colin show us what he thought we should see, and I think we saw every inch of the island. He was so knowledgable and made us feel so comfortable. We truely had a wonderful time with him.

  7. We were in Uvas last week and it was a fun and relaxing place. Carmen and Raul were wonderful and took great care of us. The drinks were good and the food great.

The only negative comment is about the beach. It was extremely harsh sand and rocks. It was very difficult to enter the water because of the rocks. There really wasn't sand, only rocks. I had my parents with me and they were unable to manage the snorkling due to these rocks. I would go back for the beach, food, drinks, and hospitality, but would skip the snorkle and ocean swimming.
