  1. Hi

We are considering a cruise from Tahiti to Sydney on Norwegian Jewel.I made enquiries through a travel regarding payment of gratuities on NCL ships as we have not cruised with them before.

My question was can the gratuities be removed on board like Royal Caribbean. She didn't know f they could be removed.

Can anyone who have sailed on NCL tell if gratuities can or cannot be removed.

    Thanks

    Col& Di:D

  2. Agree with everything BigM said.

Onboard the drink packages will be in US, so converting them to AUD will be more expensive.

Log into your cruise on the royal caribbean site and see how much your drink package will be. to purchase in advance.

Also, take some long pants/collared shirt for the dining room, tell your mates;)

They may or may not enforce the dining room dress rules.

Thats coming from a Mum:p I know my boys when they were younger would have thrown in board shorts and Tshirts and a pair of thongs!!

Ha Ha Chez...good advice...Itry to get away with thongs and T shirts but Di wont let me..lol:)

  3. Hi everyone.......having a lovely time, lovely ship.

Weather has been cool and windy.....possibly missing Mare tomorrow as we may not be able to tender.

Older age group......have seen about 6 kids.

Boarding was great, not sticking to staggered boarding times. We boarded at 12.30pm.

12 bottles of wine carried on, corkage paid on 10.

Any questions will try to answer for those travelling soon.

  4. Though I should say I was expecting it to be about a whole cruise being cancelled.

Got a scare the other day when I got an email headed

"urgent information for booking number xyz123"

Turned out to just be about the 1.1% on credit card payments, as the cruise hadn't been selling too good my first thought was a change in itinerary ir something.

It scared the hell out of me too when I received it...

  5. we are going on a cruise soon to Noumea /mare / isle of pines, can anyone tell me what currency we will need to buy say, food / drinks / trinkets etc on these islands. if we need other than aussie can we get it on the islands

    thank you in advance

    Hi

Aussie dollars are accepted on these islands. We find its best to take a combination of $1 & &2 coins and $5.00 notes .most items on the island are displayed in Aussie currency and their currency. By taking coins and notes combined its easy to meet the cost of items. Do not take larger notes as they will normally give you the change in their currency....ALL stalls on the islands will take AUD.

    Have fun

  6. Hi,

I previously said that we would not cruise P&O unless we got a real good deal. The deal wasn't the clincher more like the girls wanting a short break contrived over too much wine.

We were lucky enough to have our embarkation changed from White Bay to Circular quay so the girls decided as we sailed on a Monday we should stay in town Sunday night. We all agreed we should stay at the Amora hotel ,which is our favourite. After a nice day/night in town we woke early had breakfast and headed to the quay to board. Boarding was smooth and quick. We quickly unpacked and went to explore the ship. I must admit that I had heard various reports about the Pearl and as I was not impressed the times we sailed on the Jewel. I really liked the ship....its easy to get around, the public areas and bars were good considering the age of the ship. Our cabin was similar to that on the Jewel...very spacious.

Like the Jewel the buffet and waterfront restaurant were small and crowded and the food in both were very poor indeed and I really do not expect excellence but do expect it to be eatable.

The drink prices were reasonable and comparable to other lines however P&O charge for everything, hot dogs hamburgers ,ice creams and a thick shake cost $9.00 which was more than a beer $5.25.....not on P&O.

Morton Island was our only stop and we loved it ...we got a perfect day weather wise. We did a helicopter ride and a quad bike adventure ....really good.

We docked White Bay and never having docked there before decided to book on board a shuttle to Central railway to catch a train home. A complete rip off at $15.00 per head and the disembarking at white bay was slow and disorganised. I blame the lack of infrastructure and isolation for that.

In conclusion I thing that if you a limited to short cruise due work commitments or to test cruising then yep it works despite the P&O charging you for every thing.

We loved the old Pearl and enjoyed the cruise but if you think because its a short cruise I it will be cheaper then thing again.

  7. Thank you everyone for taking the time to reply and for all your suggestions.

I had heard of Avomine but was told you couldn't take it if you planned to drink alcohol. Does anyone have any opinion on whether this should be strictly adhered to?

We are not big drinkers but do plan on having wine with dinner and a few cocktails now and then.

I had heard about being mid ship and low down for the smoothest ride, so I booked a cabin on the hump, midship on deck 6.

I am looking forward to this cruise so much that I don't want something like sea sickness to ruin it [emoji2]

    Hi

I notice you are sailing on solstice. Its a beautiful ship and probably the most stable ship I have sailed on .Mid ship deck 6 is a good cabin choice. My wife gets sea sick and she wears sea bands which are available from chemists. She also takes stemitil with her as a back up. She drinks while taking stemitil without any adverse effects. Go prepared and you will be fine ...enjoy your cruise

  8. Which company would you use on this once in a lifetime trip? They both look fantastic. Having a hard time deciding. I am leaning toward Princess but my husband is leaning toward RCCL.

We are looking to do a 14 day cruise and plan on seeing both Australia and New Zealand. Though have not picked an itinerary yet.

How did you decide which company to use?

Thank you for any insight. :)

I would suggest you check out Celebrity Solstice... Great ship

  9. Hey col, no cruises booked....? What gives. You will be expelled from the club.

    Hi Kaz

In Feb we are flying to Hong Kong then 14 nite cruise on celebrity millennium through Vietnam ending in Singapore.

I'm back in the club...better update my cruise history.

    Cheers

  10. Hi,

We are considering on cruise on Celebrity Millennium from Hong Kong through Vietnam and concluding in Singapore.

We have never done this cruise and its always interested us,

We have heard the the ports listed in the itinerary are a lengthy bus trip to the towns .

Can anyone who has done a cruise to Vietnam please give us your opinion and confirm if the towns are along way from ports.

    Thanks

    Col & Di

  11. Hi,

We are researching cruises to Asia early in the new year.We have narrowed it down to 2 cruises both with similar itineraries. One cruise is on Volendam ,the other on Celebrity Millennium.

We have cruised with celebrity before and loved it.....however we have not cruised with HAL.

The cruise will be for us one based on sight seeing so the size of the ship or the cabin category does not matter.

I know HAL do not have a drink package while in Australia but I don't know if they do overseas.

Can you please help us if you have sailed on both lines....your opinions would be most appreciated.

    Thanks

    Col & Di

  12. hi, Just back from a 12 night cruise on Solstice. I have to say this was the closest you can get to the perfect cruise. It all started great at check in....it took 2minutes and who better to check us in than Jo with her infectious cheery grin. On boarding we were given Champagne and a bottle was also in our cabin. The Solstice is a magnificent ship in every sense....truly 5star.the crew were all very professional and friendly and definitely exceeded our expectations .The food both in the restaurant and buffet was beautiful. The shows were of a high standard. We were very lucky we had really good weather and smooth seas.We had a balcony cabin and it was very spacious with a larger than normal balcony.Solstice is easy to get around and well appointed to the highest standards.I would highly recommend Solstice for anyone considering a cruise on her....in word. Superb.

  13. Hi, I am looking for some help.

I am a Princess cruiser that has been given the task of organising a Carnival or RCCL cruise for a group of friends to the South Pacific.

From my research I have found that RCCL does not offer cruises to South Pacific in October 2015, so Carnival it is.

Can anyone guide me on Spirit or Legend, good or bad. Differences, similarities, one better than the other?

If it makes a difference we are mostly around 50ish, maybe a couple of young kids.

Any opinions are most welcome and I look forward to any input from all.

    Thank you

    Linda

The Spirit and Legend are identical ships.I have sailed on Carnival twice...they are family ships with no limit on the number of kids...we had 1100 on our last cruise and they were not bad but just ran riot having fun with no supervision from staff nor parents.

  14. Hi ,

We are cruising to fiji on our next cruise and visiting the subject ports.

It has been several years since we visited those ports and from memory they did not have much tour from the wharf. The ports looked a bit dodgy and I was wondering if anyone may have done their own thing in these ports...ans it it safe to do so.

The tours from the ship seema a bit limited and overpriced.

    Many thanks

    Col:)

  15. We will be embarking on the Celebrity Solstice to cruise the Top End Of Australia next month. We are getting quite excited and have everything organised including 3 reservations in the specialty restaurants. Do hope they are as good as they look.

A question I would like to ask is there a kettle in your cabin so as you are able to have that early morning coffee on your balcony without having to head out to the nearest coffee station? Look forward to your answers. Cheers we are counting down.
