Hopefully this will be enforced on our Splendor cruise in March. Last year's March Splendor cruise was extremely frustrating with the chair hogs.....they just did not care about any other passengers. The only thing I would also like to see happen with this new policy is that "Man Overboard" be announced. OK....a bit "overboard" itself but I think is speaks to my anger with these people.

Hi, it’s Laurie from our roll call. We’re new to Splendour and I’m wondering if there are other decks with loungers in the shade? We have found on other r

Regent ships we can snatch a lounger on a lower deck than the pool and have shade. We are shade lovers!

If Singapore port/airport is closed in the near future (not that I am hoping for that) then they would have no choice but to refund the money to you.

Hi Paul, we left the Seychelles yesterday and on our way to the Maldives. We were informed this morning that all our Asian stops after Sri Lanka are cancelled. Don’t know if that’s because Singapore has refused entry or not. Our new itinerary is Muscat, Kahsab, and ending in Dubai. Since we’ve done all the Asian stops it’s fine with us. Any ideas on what to do in Dubai?

    Hi Laurie & Dave,

Tough call. Super Bowl will be on 2/2 3:30 PST which should be about 1:30 AM on 3/3 in Cape Town - middle of the night and presumably you’ll be sleeping in your hotel.

They might show the Super Bowl once you board the ship as a delayed/recorder broadcast but that being the boarding day not sure how they’ll handle it.

Regardless - have a great cruise and GO NINERS 😀

Sleep?! If you only knew the middle of the night games we have watched in foreign places, and the dives! Thank god for Slingbox! Go Niners, indeed!

A tough day today - really sorry 😥

They deserved to be in the Super Bowl after their season.

Hi Paul, that was a great game. The Super Bowl will be played while we’re in Capetown. We board Nautica on the 3rd, so wondering what sports channels they might have besides rugby or soccer?

Happy  New Year to you and Marsha,

    Laurie & Dave

Hi Laurie - long time no see - we should do something about it and catch up 🙂

In the mean time we can talk on the phone about air options - do you have the number?

Yes, Paul we have the number. Are you home this weekend? Call tomorrow afternoon?

I should qualify my statement by saying that I am comparing business class experiences in these airlines. May or may not be true for economy comparisons.

The service in Turkish business was more like first class service in those other airlines and the seats in TK business are better than seats in business of the other 2 airlines.

    Hi Paul,

David and I are taking Oceania next Feb. Capetown to Singapore. Have you and Marsha done that cruise? We are also trying to figure out business class air ( that’s how I stumbled upon you ). Any ideas?

    Thanks, Laurie B

  7. Day #8 Puntaraenas,Costa Rica Wednesday

Really nice morning! Took a walk around the ship! Thenhad coffee in the suite. Afterwardsbreakfast at La Veranda, the banana blue berry pancakes were really good. More coffee, then off to take a look around, walked down the pier, and it was pretty hot. No tours today as we had visited Costa Rica on business many timesbefore I retired, so we’ve seen a lot on those visits.

Back to the ship to freshen up, met up with new friends andhad a light lunch at La Veranda an enjoyable lunch with them. We ate outside onthe back deck, cool breeze and all. Haveto say La Veranda does a nice job with the food and service. Always fresh and never looks like you’re thelast person to eat.

After lunch we met upby accident with Maria the Restaurant Manager for the ship in the CoffeeConnection. We met her on our Explorercruise of course we asked her why the Coffee Connection doesn’t have FrenchPress. She indicated I don’t know, butit should-let me look into that and made some notes about it. Yea! Maybe! Who knows!

Time for sail away, a bus was late getting back from atour. Of course they waited. Seas so far are smooth.

We both decided we’ve reach the point too much food. So we cancelled our dinner reservations for tonightand had the Butler do a one course setup. Chef Salad and a Club Sandwich, that’s it and we’ll call it a night.

I forgot to mention that the Observation Lounge in the frontof the ship is really done right, looks great and the view super.

One last thing before we go, who ever designed the furniturefor the ship (and it’s the same for all ships) must be a very shortperson. I’m not tall by any means, andthe chairs, sofas are so low we find it hard to get out of them onceseated. They look nice, very comfortableuntil you want to get up. I’m older, could be fitter—but still!

Hi Ron Rick, thanks for your wonderful posts. We were on the TA before you and enjoyed the Mariner very much. A couple of comments. First, I agree about the furniture in the lounges. Last year we did the reverse Panama Canal cruise on Navigator. We played trivia on both ships (and twice on Voyager) and my knees were killing me from sitting in those chairs in the Observation Lounge. Sofas better, but not by much. And I’m only 5’3”!

Agree with TC about suite size, we were in a standard suite and the Mariner is much smaller in feel, although we both thought it the best bathroom. Our favorite ship remains Voyager but Mariner is a close 2nd. Perhaps the upgrade is worth it. Doing nothing is what we like best about cruising and occasionally declare a sea day at home on the weekends!😁

  8. Hi Laurie,

    Our TV is generally OK.

We are able to get the following channels:

    1, 2, 4, 7, 8, 11 & 12 (lectures), 14, 15, 16-21 (news & sports) plus the music channels.

I don’t think anyone is receiving the Navigation Maps on 3 as that system is totally down. We are lucky that Captain Serena has her Sextant ;)

    S&D

    Thanks, Sue:)

  9. Thanks Susan and David for your great posts! This is the first chance I’ve had to read them. We are in a standard suite on deck 8, and it’s our first time on Mariner but not on Regent. The suite is smaller but have found the storage and closet to be more than adequate, and love the full shower in the bathroom.

The Wifi has been iffy, the air conditioning had to be fixed, and as I write this there is some serious buzzing from a workman down the hall. Nothing that has interrupted our enjoyment of the cruise. I do have one question for anyone on board: are you able to get anything on the t.v.? We get the Mariner info channel with Lorraine, but no navigational map which we like. Also, no news or sports channels [so hubby missed out on Masters updates]. Each time I have called they say they are ‘working on it’ whatever that means.

    Laurie:confused:

  10. It is my understanding that she is being refurbished in Marseille which makes sense since she was built in France. Today was Day 1 of the refurbishment. Keep in mind that they are working 24/7 on the ship. When the refurbishment was scheduled to be done in the Caribbean, there were over 2,000 workers scheduled to work on her so I assume the number is similar in France. I have no doubt that she will be completed on time and she will look gorgeous!

    Thanks so much, T.C.

Enjoy all the inside info you (and many others) supply on this board. Especially for those lurkers like me who tend to be active on this board when a cruise has been booked.

  11. Another one that sounds gross but is delicious is a chocolate martini. Great for dessert and I heard somewhere that there are no calories if you drink chocolate:evilsmile:

My DH loves the choclate martinis on Regent! One of his indulgences on board. Mine is a Chi Chi with vanilla ice cream if it’s a warm cruise, and I love the brandy Alexanders after dinner. Otherwise, color me wine🍷

  12. To submit your rating and comments, please use the following template and paste the information in a reply - I'll paste the information into the master listings as time allows. Remember, the more folks contribute, the more useful this will be!

PLEASE BE SURE AND SPECIFY WHICH SHIP YOU WERE ON! I could probably figure it out but it's a LOT easier to know up front!

    Hi Bill,

I tried to enter info from our Navigator Panama Canal cruise last month, and was unable to on my iPad. Do I need to use a computer? Thanks, Laurie
