  1. Hello,

I will be traveling with a Power Wheelchair, and borading an MSC ship out of terminal 10 at Port Canaveral in March of 2024.  I've read that there is alot of construction going on at terminal 10, and that I sould park off site. Has anyone booked with an off site parking company that will allow Power Wheelchairs or Scooters on their shuttle bus?

I have posted this on the Disabled Cruising Forum as well.

Thanks so much for any information, :)

One more question. I've searched MSC site, but don't see any breakdown of the YC cabins. Are there some amenities that aren't included with interior cabins, but are with balcony or suite?

The only extras that are not included in the interior Yacht Club cabin is more cabin space, and a balcony... :)

Unfortunately, your plan won't work. It's an almost half mile somewhat uphill walk from the ferry terminal to the bus terminal. Buses won't take the mobility scooter.

You might consider taking a taxi from the Hamilton ferry terminal to BAMZ.

Thanks for the reply .... I was hoping my dad could ride the scooter to the bus terminal, and then park it somewhere while we take the bus to BAMZ. We would take the bus back to the terminal to pick up the scooter after the bus ride to and from BAMZ.

It looks like the bus drop people off right in front of BAMZ, and there are lots of benches for short rests along the facility grounds.

I was hoping there would be a place to store the mobility scooter somewhere close to the bus station.

  5. We are cruising to Bermuda in late October, and one person in our party uses an ECV mobilty scooter for long distances, but can walk short distances. We are planning to take the blue ferry to Hamilton, then head over to the bus terminal to be dropped off at the Bermuda Aquarium and zoo.

I know we are ok taking the blue ferry with the ECV, but what should we do with the scooter while we take the bus to the BAMZ?  I was told that it is hard to find a bus that will accept a mobility scooter, so we are hoping there is a secure place to park the scooter until we come back for it?

I know we are probably out of luck, but any information or recommendations are appriciated. :)

They are both in areas most people would consider much nicer than Elizabeth, which is essentially an industrial area. Piscataway and Parsippany are much more residential by comparison.

If you are interested in getting away from Elizabeth a bit in a similar distance as those two, the Hilton Short Hills is a bit of a hidden gem. Full service hotel with a pool and across from the Short Hills Mall which is one of the highest end malls in the country.

    Thanks princeton... I'll take a look. :)

  7. Hello,

I've read a lot about the Embassy Suites in Elizabeth, but has anyone out there ever stayed at the one in Parsippany or Piscataway? Are they in decent areas compared the E.S. by the airport? I know they are a little further from the port, but I was thinking it might be a good option to save a little money.

Thanks so much for any information or thoughts,

    Karen

  8. [not a bad plan BUT note

since these are not airport offices, most close by 6pm. MOST have a night drop box tho, so you can park the car, drop the keys in the box and you'll get your receipt by mail/e-mail ... you can UBER or taxi to hotel if needed. (I've heard some of the offices find taxi hanging around for just such business)

Thanks for all of your help Capt_BJ... You are awesome! :)

Looking at Sept I'm seeing mostly 3 ship days for Fri thru Mon ... but don't be surprised if it is busier in Dec . . .

    Thanks Capt_BJ;

It looks like there will be 4 ships at port Canaveral on the day we sail out.... Disney Fantasy, Carnival Breeze, Carnival Liberty, and RCCL's Oasis of the seas. :(

I may consider returning the car earlier on the night before the cruise, and using the hotels shuttle service to the port.

  10. I am so confused... We have read that returning a car before taking a cruise is good and a fairly quick process. The problem (I thought) was when you were trying to rent a car from a Port Carnival location after a cruise. So I should just stay away from renting a car all together?

    Thanks for any info.

  11. Just a heads up. If you want the oceanfront LQ make sure that is the one you book since there are 2 in the Cocoa Beach area. One is across the street from the Palms and about a block from the ocean. The LQ closer to the Pier is the nicer one and oceanfront.

Thanks... Yes I found that out earlier in my search :)

  12. We've stayed at the International Palms for the last 5 to 6 years every January and February. Have not stayed at the LQ or Best Western. I have to agree with SteerageJoe's advice. LQ first, Best Western then IP.

We were able to find reasonable rates at the IP so that swayed us to that property. They also have an $8.95 resort fee in addition to the quoted rate. Rates lately have been on the high side in my opinion. The rooms are very basic and not all include a microwave and refrigerator. The bathrooms are what I would call rough. The property itself is nice, especially the pool and grounds and nice bar right on the beach.

There is a Denny's across the street for breakfast and a Dunkin Donuts about 2 blocks away. They don't offer breakfast as part of their standard room rate.

At times the property can be noisy due to lots of cruise groups and sports groups that book this property. I would book this property if it is a lot cheaper than the other options otherwise consider staying somewhere else.

Hope this gives you more food for thought.

Thank you tartan cruiser! This really helps... My best rate is at LaQinta which sounds like my best choice all the way around. :)

  13. La Quinta Oceanfront is much smaller. If you need something you stroll down to the lobby. The other two are campus-style hotels and you have a long walk from the ocean view rooms. It is closest to the restaurants and bars.

It comes down to your budget, what the rates are during your visit and what room types you prefer.

Go here to see where the different room types are: La Quinta Oceanfront Details for Cruisers

AWESOME site SteerageJoe.... Thanks for the link! :)

  14. Just so there is no confusion - All three hotels mentioned are oceanfront!

Which to choose depend on budget, the room you book and how close you prefer your restaurants and entertainment.

Generally speaking, if I have to recommend these to my family my order would be LQ Oceanfront, Best Western then International Palms. Naturally the oceanfront rooms in all three are preferred if you want to see the ocean.

Sweet! Thanks for the pics SteerageJoe... I agree, the La Quinta looks very nice... What makes it the better choice of the three? I am having such a hard time making up my mind...

  15. We've stayed at the Best Western before all 3 of our cruises and love it.

The rooms in the main part of the hotel are older but they were clean and comfortable. The breakfast area can get congested but it was never something that triggered my anxiety. You'll find a lot of other cruisers there that are also starting their vacations. I believe there was overflow seating across the hallway from the main breakfast area.

There is a coin laundry room that comes in handy if you want to make sure bathing suits are completely dry from Saturday's swim. The pools are both great. The restaurant on site wasn't very busy but the food was really good and reasonably priced for dinner.

I'll be going back. We loved the location. Directly across the street from a Publix Grocery store (got to stock up on sunscreen, snacks and 2 bottles of wine). The nail salon beside the grocery store was awesome as well (ran out of time before leaving home to get my pedicure). Not very far from Ron Jon's surf shop if you want to wander around. Not far from the port either if you want to have a drink at one of the bars & restaurants there and watch the ships leave on the Saturday cruises.

Thanks so much Kilmarlic... I had no idea that there was a restaurant on site at the BW... Do you remember what the name is? Also, I was worried about the pull out sofa bed in the family suite... has anyone in your group ever slept on one of them? They only have a king bed family suite available for our sail date, so I am the one who will be sleeping on it. (Not sure if that's good or bad).

Thanks again for your help :)
