  1. That would be fabulous if they stick to that and keep things the same! As our cabin is on the Starboard side! Crossing our fingers.

How did you enjoy the cruise last year?

The cruise was very good and Mardi Gras .... is an experience.

A good tip is to use the trolly system to get to/from where the ship docks to the French Quarter. The trolly station is just outside of the cruise terminal and travels the mile or so along the riverfront to the FQ. It costs $1.25/person (half price for seniors) and a multi-day, HOHO pass can be purchased for $3.00 (?). Had we known to use the trolly our first day there would have been particularly valuable as the crowds along the riverfront, especially near Woldenberg Park, are HUGE and parts of the riverfront walk are blocked off.

  2. We will be sailing on the Celebrity Reflection on Feb 9th. And we will be celebrating Mardi Gras when we are in New Orleans for 3 days.

My question is does anyone know what side of the ship will on the land side of the dock in New Orleans?

We were on Celebrity's Mardi Gras cruise last year and we docked on the starboard side. Of course things may change this year.

  3. Some cruise lines, and probably all in future, are requiring non-refundable deposits to keep customers from booking cruises they don't intend on going.

I understand no-refund deposits are the norm in Europe and is being introduced into the US.

  4. jgiblin - I am pretty much computer illiterate so I would not know anything about "gaming the system". I can barely copy and paste as you can see from my second post!

I look at cruises every day to see what we want to take and if prices ever go down on the cruises we have booked.

My travel agent said that it was a glitch and that Oceania is having a problem with their website.

I'm not suggesting anyone in this thread of gaming. My only point is having multiple O reservations on the same cruise may cause problems. I know from experience.

A few years ago, I quite innocently (long story not worth going into) wound up with two reservations on the same cruise. This was when, unbeknowst to me, the gaming drama mentioned in my previous post was going on. In response to the apparent gaming, O implemented a policy of returning duplicate reservation deposits as future cruise credits only rather than cash. My duplicate deposit situation was resolved easily but it did take a couple of phone calls.

I don't know if this O policy still exists. Bottom line, multiple reservation may have issues.

  5. My thought is that if you ever see this again go ahead and make the booking as a new booking and then either use that info to change the existing booking or cancel the “old” booking.

Caveat - if it was a “glitch” and it was a “phantom” price, the booking may not have gone through. This sometimes happens with airlines when a phantom award is shown but cannot be booked.

Be careful with this. My understanding is a few years ago O was being played by an Individual who understood their dynamic pricing algarym. He would make multiple bookings, which would drive prices up, then cancel them which would drive prices down. Apparently, the bounce caused some very advantageous prices in the short term. O responded by limiting(?) how refunds were returned.

  6. Probably just you. I have heard more of the opposite. Have you somehow set your location on your computer to UK?

But even so, you should be able to search for anything, anywhere. Prices may be wonky though.

Also check for malware, clear cache and cookies, or try another browser. If it does it across all browsers, it's getting it from your system. How do you connect? What service provider? If it's got an IP from UK, lots of sites will pick up on that and assume that's where you are. And sometimes the browser picks up what you've set as your location, and gives you stuff based on that.

Thanks! Clearing History solved the problem.
  7. This is awesome. I just got an upsell for a forward facing penthouse. I love it but the aft penthouses look incredible.

For what it's worth, my understanding is that forward facing cabins MUST keep their curtains drawn, and maybe limit veranda usage, at night to prevent light pollution that may interfere with the bridge.

  8. We have witnessed and heard reports from others currently onboard with us that MTD is chaotic. An 'officer' told us it was because there are approximately 360 seats available and well over 900 people have been given MTD.

To expect the staff to cope with 3 'sittings' on at least half the tables is just very unfair on them.

    Does this happen often?

What is MTD? Please define an acronym on its first use.

  9. Hello, I have rented a vehicle with Alamo prior to our Oasis cruise. Is it true when I drop off the car at the FLL airport location that Alamo has a free shuttle from the airport to Port Everglades cruise terminal?

I asked the Alamo reservation center person when I made the car reservation but she was not able to give a definitive answer. TIA!

Does the shuttle, if it is available, work in reverse? That is, will they pick you up at the ship and transfer you to the Alamo desk at FFL after deboarding the ship at the end of a cruise?

  10. We were on the May 6, Lima to New York City Marina cruise. There were no flowers decorating the public rooms on the ship. The empty vase at the bottom of the grand staircase looked particularly ridiculous. It struck me as odd that the Oceania bean counters were successful in making such an obvious, low budget, economy.

  11. I had booked Oceania's July 19, 2014 Black Sea cruise last year but switched to the May 6 Lima to NYC cruise when the militants threatened disruption at the Sochi games. The current military activity taking place in Ukraine suggests more potential "issues" on this itinerary.
