  1. Is there anyone who has been on this cruise and can answer this question? I know it's "supposed to be" two formal nights on a 7 night cruise and I know it won't be the first or last night. Sorry - I should have been more specific. This cruise is very port intensive and the only sea day is right in the middle of the cruise. This is why I thought perhaps they might eliminate on of the formal nights. Thank you.

  2. I just got back from my Allure Western Caribbean cruise and felt I needed to post about the cabanas in Labadee. I had reserved one based on the Shore Access office's comments about it being fully accessible. The cabana itself is fully accessible BUT getting to the cabana is not. We were assigned #10 which required walking across about 40-50 feet of sand to get from where the concrete walkway ends and where the entrance to the cabana is. My sister uses a motorized scooter and walks with a cane (not good balance). There would have been no way for her to walk from the end of the walkway to the cabana (definitely not on her own but maybe with assistance). They offers her use of a sand wheelchair to get to the cabana but if she would have needed to use the restroom or simply wanted to leave the cabana we would have had to track down the wheelchair, etc.

I ended up getting a full refund but we were very disappointed. What I saw of the cabana, however, was that they are awesome if you can walk with no problems.

I'm sorry to hear that RCL still has not extended the concrete path all the way to the wheelchair accessible cabanas! This is just SO wrong! We were very excited about having the whole family together for the day in a cabana and were extremely disappointed to find that my mom had to go back to the ship, as there was no way for her to cross the sand part of the path. We knew she wouldn't be able to get into the water, but we fully expected her to at least be able to get TO the cabana!

  3. My Dad (Ernie Blackwell) worked on this ship and my Mother and sister and I made the trip with him once! I remember thinking it was so fancy, getting dressed up for dinner, sitting with the Captain! So long ago! I wonder if there are any pictures of the crew and passengers? Mom had some that were taken by an onboard photographer, haven't seen them in years though!

    Welcome to Cruise Critic!

June of '61 was when I was on the ship. Maybe we cruised together?

Hopefully, someone will have some pictures they can post for you.

Great idea! That would be really cool if anyone did have photos. I know I have a couple from when I sailed on her, but that was 1973 or 74. Still, if I ever come across them, I will post them for sure. ;) That was my first cruise, too (I was 15), and I've been hooked ever since! :D

  4. ...

My understanding is if you book o/v or above prior to the end of the month you qualify for the onshore on us promotion & of course if you do back to back you get an extra VERY good discount.

125 % single supplement also applies to some of these April cruises.

Seems rude not to book :)

I took advantage of these sales and I'm doing a B2B2B. I was already booked on the trans-Atlantic, but with those prices I couldn't resist! Besides, like you said I didn't want to be rude! :D

However, you do not get the free shore excursions with those prices, as the ONSHORE ON US promotion is not combinable with any other offer or promotion.

  5. My first cruise was the senior trip for Marathon High School (Fla) class of 1966 (Thank you Mr Grayley!). We cruised from Miami to Nassau and back on the Bahama Star and it hooked me on cruising for life. I remember those 25 cent slot machines, the tasty food and friendly staff, many of whom were Bahamians. I later moved to Los Angeles California and it brought back memories when she ended up beached just a little north at Port Hueneme. :)

I didn't realize she was beached in Port Hueneme! Wow, I wondered whatever happened to her. That was my first cruise, too, and like you it hooked me on cruising for life. :D

  6. Wow! I can't believe I happened upon your post! Yes, I sailed the Bahama Star with my grandparents and my aunt and uncle when I was 15 years old. That was my first cruise ever and I was hooked for life! I don't remember a whole lot about it, but I did have a shipboard romance of sorts with our busboy "Sylvano". I exchanged addresses with him, but apparently he gave my address to someone else, because the letter I got back was from someone named "Pedro". <LOL> Ah, the memories of being 15!

  7. Thanks for marking the location of Guy's Driftwood Boat Bar and also the grocery store on this map! (I was asking you about the boat bar on another thread and I'm really looking forward to those $2 beers next month. :D ) Now I can really get a good idea of the location in relation to the Sunset Bar.

    You are the man!!!
