  1. Update: Website recreation.gov is shut down, but nps.gov is still active. It states that the Arizona Memorial is still open during the shutdown. Walk-up tickets only, no online tickets available during shutdown. This is good news.

  2. I've been trying to find answers to this all morning, but most news sites just say some national parks will remain open, others won't. They say there will be more accessible than the last shutdown. Does anyone know the current status for Pearl Harbor, Haleakala, and the Volcanoes area? We leave for our trip in less than 2 weeks, so this is concerning. :( I know we can't be the only ones concerned.

  3. We will also be in Maui on POA. The day we arrive, we have a Sunset on Haleakala tour booked that leaves at 3:15 from the ship. Is it worth renting a car for the morning to try to visit Lahaina? I read on another thread it could take 2 hours to get from Kahului to Lahaina with traffic. If this is a bad idea, other suggestions for the morning and early afternoon? (We are doing the Road to Hana the next day.)

  4. For those who have made advance reservations at the Embassy Suites Waikiki Beach Walk, be sure to go back to the website to re-check the price of your lodging from time to time. When we first reserved, our room was $269 a night. We canceled and re-reserved two times, dropping the price to $209 a night and then to $188 a night. This applies to any Hilton property, as we have done this at several their hotels on other trips. We cannot wait for our upcoming Hawaii adventure!

Thank you VTSteerage! I made our Embassy Suites reservations back in May for Feb 2018. Just went on to check rates as you suggested, and I was able to rebook the exact room for $105 less per nt. Appreciate the hint!!
