  1. West End is quite local. The place to go is DIX Halfway Inn. It's pretty new but we went there in Feb with about 14 friends and were well pleased. There is a great porch outside overlooking the water and a beach with lounge chairs. Water is great for swimming or snorkeling. The food is a great combination of local & American. We all had different things

so we sampled a lot. The fish tacos were good and so were the wings. Drinks were yummy

We got there about 10 and left just in time to get back to our ship. The owner was present and was a wonderful host. I would have loved to be able to be there later because I think this would be a fun place. You go to West End and turn left. DIX is right behind the little white church. Will go back soon. Have been to Roatan 4 times & DIX is the best.

  2. A new alternative in West End is DIX Halfway Inn. Sundowners is fun also but we found DIX in Feb of this year and it is yummy. Large veranda overlooking the water and lounge chairs on the beach. Food is great and drinks are yummy. If I knew how to post a picture i would.

It is right behind the little white church.

  3. If you are going to West End I recommend DIX Halfway Inn. It has great food, relaxing porch, lounge chairs and a great swimming beach. We have been to Roatan several times & have found DIX. Price is good and hospitality is warm. The raod in has now been paved and there are lots of little local shops to browse in. Going back soon and will head to DIX.

  4. We too are in our 70's. We don't do a lot of beaching anymore unless we are with a group. Last time I had arranged a tour but could just as well gotten off the ship and taken the same tour. There were folks waiting at the pier and we took a small bus up to see the White Witch plantation and even though we live in a area with an abundance of plantations it was interesting. The driver gave us a tour around MB and then we stopped at the Pork Pit for lunch. It was interesting. Not our first time there. If you want to see more of the island check Trip Advisor for some good information.

  5. Some of you may remember that around 2000 the Holiday out of New Orleans did a 10 day in the Caribbean. We did Guadeloupe, Antigua, Belize, Cozumel, Ocho Rios and I don't remember what else. None of these places were very developed then. No neat Disney villages...just the undeveloped areas. I agree that the Fantasy class would be perfect for these longer undeveloped areas. This trip got us hooked on cruising and we are always looking for new ports to visit.

  6. NOLA now has a plush Platinum lounge. Big soft sofas while you wait your turn with coffee, lemonade and Danish to munch on. It's no longer to the left but you will be directed. You will be checked in here and they will call you by name. After you get checked in you go to your area and are boarded before FTTF but after bridal parties and handicapped. Get there about 10-10:30 and barring any problems will be on for early lunch.
