  1. Found this thread by chance. Just (lees than 1 month) back from 8 days in Paris. Stayed at the cutest boutique hotel, pretty reasonably priced for Paris too. Hotel Jardin Le Brea Less than 500 steps from hotel to the metro PLATFORM of the Vavin station, local buses and RER are also convenient. We walked to many locations too, including the Eiffel Tower, and we’re both on the heavier side but still mobile.

We loved the staff and the location-I’d recommend this hotel in a heart. beat.

Now onto planning for next year’s cruise. [emoji39]

  2. Hi all...total newbie here. I have been reading a lot but I only have so much time, so I hope I could ask a few questions. We are in the process of booking an Alaska cruise on Radiance for next July.

1- how are the balcony rooms for a quad (two parents plus 12yo boy and 15yo girl)? My ideal is a balcony for us parents and a nearby inside for the kids but according to RC's website that is now an impossible set up (who knew people booked cruises so early!?...not me, I'm a newb as stated...) so I'm thinking I will call RCI direct or find a local agent who might have more info and be quicker about it. I had two adjoining ocean views on 24 hour hold on the 3rd deck aft (going southbound) which I thought could work but the husband really wants a balcony. And the hold is now over...boo.

2- cruisetours....for land, worth it? We hoped to be in Alaska for the 4th of July and the cruise in questions leaves the 8th. Husband has an independent streak and wants to go it on our own but I hear the cruise tours can be a good deal...mainly want to see Denali.

    3-excursions...independent or on board?

4- DD and I are prone to sea sickness and neither of us have cruised. Husband has and insists we won't feel a thing. He's not prone though and doesn't quite understand...lol...scopolamine patches or other aids recommended for this cruise?

Thanks for any input and advice!

We cruised southbound on the Radiance July 2014. We arrived in Anchorage Alaska July 1. We stayed in Seward July 2,3 and sailed July 4th. I booked our hotel in Seward and travel well in advance and I am glad I did.

The town of Seward Alaska has a HUGE event on July 4th, they have a marathon, were people run up Mount Mararthon the town population increases greatly and hotels and camp sites sell out many months ahead. We were told the crowds increase to about 40,000. Google it.

Having said that we traveled by the train from Anchorage to Seward and were booked at the Holiday Inn. I think I booked November 2013. It was also the most amazing cruise we've ever taken, we also had a balcony (E1) which we used often.

    I hope this helps.

  3. Thank you so much for your attention to the small details. We're doing 4 days in Paris , taking the train to Barcelona for three days and then boarding Brilliance of the Seas for 12 days next September. The transition between Paris and Barcelona has been causing me the most stress. Your review has provided me with so much information, which I willing surely be referencing many times. Loving the review even as it is winding down :(

  4. I subscribed to this thread yesterday, and I am thoroughly loving it. We are taking our 1st Med cruise next September, yes a whole 384 more days. So I'm in that glorious research and planning stage. So keep it coming girl, I love the details and the pictures, you have a great eye!

PS gotta stay until the end, we're doing Paris pre cruise and going from Barcelona to Paris via train too. I can't wait to read all about your adventures!

    Lori :p

  5. We 're cruising from Seward on July 4th. But we arrive 2 days earlier.

Unfortunately I did not know about the Mt Marathon run and party when we booked. Has anyone been there over this celebration, what can we expect?

  6. It's 3 miles from the Embassy Suites to the train depot. There is a restaurant on site that, the last time I ate there, was pretty good, and several nearby, including the Moose's Tooth. Go to mapquest, find Embassy Suites, and then click on the restaurant button at the top of the map...you will see that within a couple of blocks, there are too many places to eat to list here.

Looking at the rates on the Yellow Cab site, cab fare should be less than $20.

Thanks mytime53, I appreciate your response and will Mapquest as you suggested.

  7. Ok dumb question, and after all my cruises I really should know, but for the life of me I don't remember.

Do the cabins (inside) have individual temperature controls? I'm concerned about the heat coming into the cabin on our upcoming Alaskan cruise, hey I'm having my own personal tropical moments these days , I don't need uncontrolled heat blasting in too! :D
