  1. Is the ship time the same as port time at all three ports?

I beleive during Daylight Savings time, the time satsy the same (or so someone has said on here) but during the winter months, the time will change the night before you get to Jamaica and then change back to central time the night before you get to Cozumel. Sorry if I confused you, I did however check my capers...

  2. Has anyone ever used the internet Cafe on the conquest and what is your opinion.

    Thanks

    Salena

I liked to use the internet for short "updates" to the kids who we staying wit my mom/dad at home.

(Even $.75 a minute is better than $2.49/min for phone!)

If you watch the Carnival Capers, you can find out when they are having some discounted prices. They are usually at odd times, but nice because I really didn't want to buy a package as I only needed abouot 20 min so I opted to just pay by the minute. When they had specials, like half off of your internet time, you could just tell the internet cafe worker and half of my used minutes for that tme we taken off.

The cafe itself was nice, and not usually crowded, and was able to walk in an immediately get a computer. It is hard to find, and yo have to go through the cigar bar to get to it.....Wierd, I know.

  3. I'm going on my first cruise in two weeks. I'll be in cabin 8211, 8C, on the Verandah deck. Is this good? Will we have a good view? What are the positives and negatives?

Looks AWESOME!!!! Meybe you will get a good view on an Gorgeous :p Italian Ship Officer from the Bridge!!!! Sorry!

ANyway, to the point, it should be great! And since you are not under the main Lido deck where the pools and stuff are, it should be quieter than some of the other rooms on this floor. Have a great time.....and enjoy your balcony and its view....:p

  4. Can you take food to your room from the buffets or pizzeria? How would you carry this food? I don't want to violate etiquette by carrying around tupperware. This will be my first cruise and I'm excited about it.

NO, NO!!!! You don't have to bring your Tupperware aboard...LOL!but you CAN just carry a tray or just a plate back to your room. :p Or better yet, you could just order room service (it's free too!) But, either way, we have brought pizza, drinks, danish', etc back to our room to eat!!! Have a great trip!!!!:D

  5. Is Anyone else going? Does anyone have any suggestions for excursions in the Cayman Islands?

    Depends....

Are you traveling with kids or just adults. I would strongly suggest the beach (7 mile or Rum Point) and or the stingray snorkle tour (with older kids 10+). If you have younger kids, I would suggest the beach too, but also thePirate Excursion and the submarine tour. We will probably do the Pirate tour on our next conqest tour. Have a great time!!!!!!! :D

  6. I'm sure the shops on board are very similar to other cruises, but on my next cruise, my mother and father-in-laws will be with us. SOmetime during the cruise, I wanted to get something at one of the shops (flower or candy) to have delivered to their room. I wanted to do it there -- and not as a Bon Voyage gift I could purchase ahead of time, as we want to put a longer note with it to be delivered. The message area when ordering online just wasn't big enough  (it's a special trip for all of us).

Anyone know if one of the shops on board can do this? Or have any of you done this before?

I think the formalities shop has flowers that you can send to people onboard ~Like the same place you rent a tux.....

  7. I don't think you can go wrong with the Hilton. It is not the high end, but you definately get what you pay for! Plus, there location is fairly close to almost everything. Almost all of the rooms have somewhat of a gulf view which really gets you in the mood on the morning of the cruise!;)

Sounds fantabulous! I will definately check it out. We found out the hard way that the cheapest place IS NOT THE WAY TO GO! Plus, if one can get free parking/transportation (or even a nominal fee) than it equals out in the long run!!!!!

  8. Call the Hilton in Galveston instead of the 800 number or looking on the website. They are very helpful and are good at looking for discounts you wouldn't normally think of. They also know exactly what they have available and what they are willing to do. Last April we saved $30 over the "internet special" rate by dealing with the hotel directly. It may have changed, but it's worth a call! :)

Very True, and if you call and the price is better, you can book, otherwise, if it's not you can just book online. Plus, an obsession of mine is to see how the hotel personell are on the phone. Sometimes, if they are blunt & rude, I tend to take my business elsware.

  9. We have stayed at the Hilton and it did not, at least not in April 06, require a 2 night minimum and had the best shuttle service to and from the pier. They got us to the pier early (there was more than one shuttle) and as soon as we exited customs, they were waiting for us. Nice hotel and within walking distance of almost everything.

Thanks for telling me about this one! I don't know how I missed it.. .but it looks good, and really the same price and any of the other higher end hotels....Looks very nice.....

I also just noticed the Holiday Inn Resort offers free cruise parking & transportaion as well. Alrhough, I guess I passed by these certain hotels because the prices keep getting higher and higher and I have a cruise to save for.........

  10. La Quinta Inn & Suites Galveston offers transportation & parking for $10

The Commodore on the Beach offers transportation for $15 a room

Hawthorn Suites at The Victorian offers transportation & parking for $25 (2 nigh min. stay)

Holiday Inn Resort , Hotel Galvez A Wyndham Historic Hotel , San Luis Resort, The Tremont House & Moody Gardens Hotel has free cruise parking & transportation BUT of course their rooms are a little more expensive than the others and some MAY require a 2 night stay.

Of course, as stated above, the Harbor House does offer free cruise parking and you can walk to the pier. (although I believe most of the time there is a min. 2 night stay.

Hope this helps! I just clicked under where to stay and then book lodging online, and added I the requirements of free cruise parking.

  11. Okay, thanks for the infomation on the Galveston hotels. I went to Galveston.com and found many that offer free parking during the cruise. But I could not tell how far each was located to the pier.

Which hotels are walking distance to the pier? I don't want to mess with a taxi. My dh could drop the kids and I off with luggage, go park the car and walk back to the ship.

Although, if you look at Galveston.com, some of the hotels say they offer free cruise parking, and some even offer a free shuttle to the pier, while some I saw on there said they would charge a small fee ($15 or something) but it seems better than a taxi....

  12. I haven't seen any info on the slide on the conquest. Are the lines long? Does it have stairs? It looks as though it goes down a couple of decks. Just wondering since nobody has mentioned anything about it. Thanks!

Yes, it does go down a few storries, as it is on the sky deck (level 13) and it ends o the Lido Deck (leve 9). It looked pretty fun! The lines were not too long when we were on, but that was Feb and there were less kids, and a little chilly for some people (like me) to even be in my swimsuit a few of the days at sea so.....can't help you too much there...I am sure the slide gets pretty busy in the summer with all those kids aboard!!!!

  13. I saw your ticker and thought you all were going sooner..........

    I WISH!!!!!:p

Off the subject ? Do you ever go to Branson to shop? My girlfriend is wanting to spend a weekend there shopping, she tells me that there is alot of outlet malls.....

Branson is nice. The outlets are pretty cool and sometimes they have good bargins, sometimes just different items than the stores at malls. I also know there is a new mall they built in branson closer to downtown..I heard it nicer but I haven't been there....YET!

  14. So when do you cruise on the Conquest next?

Pretty much right now, we have plans for a cruise on the Conquest October 25-Nov 1 2008! I know, such a long time away...but got to make plans with that many people. I think we are considering getting on of the family staterooms on the spa deck with the floor to ceiling windows. Since you have 5 in your family, you have to ge 2 rooms? Originally, I had wanted a balcony room this time, but after concidering the thoughts of my DS whom will 7 at the time hanging over the railing, I think I have changes my mind!

  15. I have been hooked ever since... I finally got smart and opened a cruise fund account :D

I know! WE have some friends, that every time we were together we telling us about the cruises (they had been on 2 previously, Ectacy and one out of NOLA) Anyway, One day we all decided to cruise. We picked the Conquest, because really, for the ammount of days verses the cost, 7 days is more cost effective. We had such a blast! I told my DH that I wanted to take the kids and we've decided to take them NEXT Oct since that will be around my 30th b-day ! Luckliy, with planning so far ahead, we can pay a little each pay check and the stress on our budget isnt that bad.....

  16. Its nice to meet you !! Do you and your family drive or fly to Galveston ?My DH and I went on the conquest back in 05, We flew out of Tulsa to Houston. But this time we are driving and staying Sat. night in Galveston.
WE drive. I guess for us, we are too cheap  to fly, as it is around $200+ per person. We went on the Conquest last Feb and stayed at the Howard Johnson Express~WHICH I DON'T RECOMMEND~But I have seen alot of good hotels @ www.galveston.com, and some of them even offer free cruise parking/transportation to the pier & back!

I shop in Joplin or at least I did until I received a speeding ticket on the way there...Boy that was a bummer on the rest of my shopping trip.
LOL~Don't I know it! ;) Actually I haven't gotten a ticket in 7+ years, but being at that, I SURE do have a way with speeding....

I forgot to look are you going on the Conquest again anytime soon ?
Surely, we are in the plans for another Conquest Cruise NEXT October either 18 or 25...not sure yet:confused: ...but we are taking the kids (7&8)this time....I am not sure about the drive....but at least my DH installs Audio/Tv's in cars for a living so we will have that to entertain them
  17. $50 online, $55 if you wait until you get there. It's two or three bocks from the ship. They have a shuttle, but I found it easier to drop off the luggage and one person and then park and just walk to the ship. Getting a shuttle back to the car when we got back didn't take very long.

Thanks for the helpful info! We usually drive down the night before because we live in SW Missouri and it takes 10+ hours....but also considering staying in a town outside of Galveston the night before and just driving in port day. Have a great cruise!

  18. If you're spending the night in Galveston anyway, leaving your car at the hotel would be a good option, but if you're not, EZ Cruise parking is only $50.

Is that $50 when you purchase online or can you just pay the $50 when you get to Galveston? I know I have read somewhere on thes board that if you purchase online you can get the price $5 or $10 cheaper than if you pay for it when you get there? I didn't know if that was EZ Cruise or not? Where is EZ Cruise located? Do they offer a shuttle to and from your car? Thanks!
