  1. So nice to 'see' you again--and on QM2. I was due to board QM2 shortly after you wee 'thrown off' and was following you and safari girl. I'm also about to embark--but on QE, boarding in Vancouver--I am calling it my 'Getting there without getting 'it''--hoping to avoid Covid enroute. And flying seems rather fraught at this point. Wishing you a wonderful time on QM2--will be following.

  2. Another disappointing piece of news. Firstly I am sorry for those booked on the affected sailings. Then, as others have said, wonder about sailings after May 17. I’m booked for Vancouver to Alaska and onward to Barcelona in July. Will be interesting what they may offer on potential new offerings enroute to the hopefully still planned Alaska season.

(These are US bookings) Our last Cunard trip was December 2018. The documentation I have shows that the payment for that one was due 90 days prior to sailing. Our previous trip was December 2017, which shows a final payment date 120 days prior to sailing. So, I'm guessing that they changed the payment deadline sometime between those two sailings.

Interesting. My more 'recent' bookings have all had balance due 120 days prior to sailing--including the December '20 Christmas cruise I'm hoping will be a 'go'. I booked this after canceling a QM2 February booking earlier this year. So glad I made that decision when I did. The refund processed very quickly. To be fair at that point they didn't have thousands to deal with.

  4. Have been following and especially looking forward to your QM2 entries. I was scheduled to board in Hong Kong, and then Singapore when Cunard decided to bypass HK-made sense at the time. I switched my arrangements to Singapore but that began to look iffy to me. I canceled, with regret. Will be bittersweet to follow along. I especially wanted to see Mauritius and Reunion.

I live in Placer County and to give an idea of how this whole thing snowballs...the firefighters (and paramedics) who assisted the poor person who died yesterday from the Grand cruise are now self quarantined for two weeks. The firefighters' family members are not. The school district sent out an email last night saying that the CDC says they don't have to put the family members in self quarantine because they aren't currently showing symptoms. They list the four schools that those family members go to/work at. One is my daughter's so she is not there today. It's been reported that corona virus victims have not shown symptoms at first and that is my concern. The local community college is reporting that two office staff members were also on the same cruise and have been sent home to self quarantine as well. I have two students there but the office staff wouldn't have been in classrooms so not a concern yet. Local stores are sold out of Lysol wipes, hand sanitizer, hand soap, TP, etc. It's very disconcerting and shows how this whole thing spreads way beyond the cruise ship itself.

Thanks for this. It's an excellent example of the impact of just one (sadly) person with the virus.

  6. Wonderful! Thank you for this. Such wonderful memories of this itinerary--back in the day on the old Marco Polo. I just discovered this today. Also brought back memories of a rough crossing a few years ago on QE when QV was within sight some days. Both ships were pitching up and down...

  7. I am curious about something not previously mentioned. I’m a cruise traveler (usually Cunard) and was surprised at the movement of furniture-particularly in the area facing windows in the often-seen videos of very large moving objects. And it appeared that furniture was not heavy nor fastened down as I believe I’ve seen on other ships. Perhaps the severe ship movement bypassed such controls but it still surprised me. There’s what appears to be a very large sort of planter rolling back and forth for example. And rather flimsy looking chairs sailing around. Is this usual sort of furniture/fittings for a passenger ship? Or is this what one would expect with severe ship movement?

  8. The trick seems to be locating 'the Cunard Members area' which is referred to in one of the before boarding faqs. I clicked on the link but no luck. I'm suspecting they've temporarily closed it as there seemed to be issues with it?

  9. I did stumble into the account set up process-US. I registered but it would not recognize my WC number-which was correct.

on another note, has anyone located deck plans? I’m going to cruise critic - I rebooked one Cruise today (price drop) and have another one on 3-day hold. Maybe by my May cruise it will come together. I worked on projects like this and it can be a ‘rocky docking’ on initial intro but this seems particularly problematic.

  10. These are a few options:

We are big fans of QLS and have used them multiple times.

Depending what time/when you fly in you can do a one way car rental from FLL to MIA. Some services waive the one way rental fee and have a shuttle to the Port. That way you can explore Miami. We have done this after the cruise many times.

It sounds like I don't need a reservation for QLS?
