A large number of Americans cannot pass the strict Drug and Alcohol tests required by most cruise lines.

If they get past those tests, they often fail the physical exams.

If they get through the physicals, they fail the criminal background checks.

 

For the small percentage who have survived all of the above, most cruise lines require multi-lingual staff. Most Americans speak only 2 languages; English and English louder.

 

And for the very few who have gotten past all of these obstacles, there is the uniquely American attitude that the American way is the correct way to do something, and every other way is the wrong way. That outlook usually finishes them off pretty quickly.

 

So the cruise lines hire Americans as jugglers, clowns, babysitters, and dancers. These positions have far more lenient requirements.

No flames here Jim. There's a lot of sense in what you said. Also consider that the low wages and long working hours are really not attractive to most Americans wanting to work on a cruiseship.

I've come across a few Americans but not many. Most memorable was a ship's doctor from Florida that we chatted with up on deck.

5. Clothes (not into the clothing optional cruises!) ;)

Costa Maya is not like Cozumel. It's small and limited to a few shops and vendors. If you take a taxi to Mahahual, the village down the road, they had shops and vendors as well, but we didn't venture into the shops. We bought a hammock and several nice quality handmade plates for my collection from the vendors there.

Injuries can and do happen when climbing on slippery rocks against rushing water. Be sure to have well fitting water shoes when doing the climb. I made it halfway without injuries, but my legs couldn't make it all the way up so I got off about midway. It was a lot of fun!

I hope this works. My computer crashed Monday and I'm still trying to find everything that was lost. If it works, it's a picture of El Morro in Old San Juan as we were sailing into the harbor on the Enchantment.

Yes. Mickey Dolenz, formerly of The Monkees, and his sister Coco were on our Navigator cruise last year. He's showing his age, but his performance was still top notch.

We checked the library on the Legend, but the one that was there had disappeared.

Wow! That could so easily have been the end of your plans to cruise. Thanks for the excellent info about Delta. I'm almost anal when it comes to having those passports and leaving a day early.

I believe that is technically correct. I'm still debating about whether or not to take another cruise out of San Juan. Our last cruise from there was a good one. The locals did take over some of the public areas for private parties and we had more rude people in general on that cruise. It's the long flights that really bother me. I got a price I was happy with for the cruise, but the cost of the flight was the killer.

Was this an older couple or were they younger? I've seen couples do this before although not quite to that extreme. I'm too independent to want to do that and I know my DH would NEVER go for the idea either.
