  1. I've been lurking around here (about a week now) since my DH suggested that we go on our first cruise later this year (hopefully in October). I thought it would be a great way to gather tips from past cruiser and to read about reviews.

All I have to say is WOW! What a great review, so far. So detailed that it makes me feel like I was on the cruise with you. Thanks for taking the time to blog about your vacations. I had to break my "lurking" status as this is my first post on the boards.

I noticed that you were on the Glory last May and would like to know how you liked it? That is the ship that we are looking to book this October for a Western Caribbean cruise. We heard such great things about Cozumel.

Welcome to Cruise Critic. You can find all kinds of reviews for the ships on here and they are a huge help. This link should take you to one that I read before our Glory trip a couple of years ago. It is one that PaulMedik did of the Western Carib aboard the Glory.

As an aside, I visited Savannah last week for the first time, and I must say, it was lovely.

  2. Actually, there is only 1 bridge. The map shows A1A crossing the St. Johns River, but in fact it is a ferry that crosses at that location.

The 9A Dames Point bridge is the one that everyone is talking about. The ship clears it by 5 or 6 feet at most.

Look for Kroozfoolz's video in this forum or the All Fascination forum.

Usually they will hold the muster drill before departing, but not always. The bridge is about 10-15 mins from the port once the ship pulls away.

Thanks for this. We are sailing on the FAscination in Sept. and I have looked all over to find out long it would take to clear the bridge. I do hope that the muster drill, or "sinking practice" as it is called at our house, is quick and painless. I definately want my MIL to see this. It will freak her out.:p

  3. I just couldn’t resist. Since I have not yet left on my fist “civilian” cruise I thought I’d post a couple of favorites from an Uncle Sam cruise.

The bottom was taken when we left Norway, into a NASTY storm.

Wow, nice shots! Don't worry, your civilian cruise should be a little more calm than that.:D

  4. On the Glory, the buffet lunch menu was a different cuisine every day. The day they served "American" there was fried chicken. I don't eat the buffet much, so I don't remember what sides went with the chicken, but I think that day will be your best bet to get fried okra.
