Here's my cabin review from our recent Voyager Cruise
-
Hi Bill
Here's my review for the Mariner on our recent Tokyo to Vancouver trip in April - May 2019
Thanks for your work on this.

I disagree as I've been on two FO roll calls before. Sure there are not as many responses as one sees on the bigger U.S. cruise lines but FO's ships are much smaller and I think there are just fewer Brits participating overall on Cruise Critic.
But if you open up the “Find Your Roll Call” tab in the header on the boards home page then Fred Olsen isn’t listed in the Cruise lines. I only found an independent Fred Olsen Roll Call Page by following a link on a closed thread in the Fred Olsen General Forum on the message boards. This isn’t user friendly. I’ve been happily using cruise critic with no problem for 16 years until now. My question to Cruise Critic is why they are not included along with all the other cruise lines in Find Your Roll Call.

Why does Fred Olsen not have a roll call on cruise critic to enable us to hook up with fellow passengers to arrange private tours. So frustrating!

Thanks for your last post on your cruise experience, much appreciated. We cruise a lot but haven’t sailed Celebrity since the Silhouette in 2011. From reading your experience I can see our memories of the Celebrity Cruise Experience are not going to match up to what we might find now.
Happy New Year and Happy Future Cruising.

Can you please explain what select dining in the MDR is?
Jo
I see you have signed up on our roll call today :) Welcome. I can answer your question on Select Dining It means you are flexible to choose what time you dine each evening as opposed to being on a fixed early or late seating where you would have the same table and table mates at the same time every night.
I'm also interested to know how many men wear black tie on Formal Night. This is something we still like to do, all part of the cruising experience to us but I realise times are changing on many cruise lines.

It's all a matter of personal choice. I think you have to try it for yourself.
We didn't really like the layout on the Azura but loved the Britannia. The cabins and balconies are smaller but loved the modern contemporary decor of the newer ship. We did the re-positioning from Barbados to Southampton in March and have just booked for the re-positioning from Southampton back to the Caribbean next month. We liked the layout of the restaurant on Britannia. We heard lots of complaints about the lack of stairs mid ship and the wait for a lift but we didn't find this a problem as we just used the aft stairs instead of heading towards the centre. If you don't have mobility problems then this works fine. The ship is bigger but not that long as to warrant a real problem.
If you haven't been to the Caribbean before then each port is an adventure whether it be Eastern, Western or Southern.
Have a look at the cruisedeckplans website to compare ships and see members photos.
Whichever you chose take the half full glass look for the positives and enjoy.

Never have missed anything so far ... but we don't pack anything in our checked luggage that is of great importance to us.
I think you are all missing the point I NEVER PACK VALUABLES IN CHECKED LUGGAGE either. I bought the earrings in St Maartan which is why they were on the cruise with me. They were not extremely valuable. It doesn't matter if they cost 1$ or 1000$, it isn't the value of the property, it is the fact someone took them from my cabin which I find unpleasant!

Did you look everywhere in your luggage?
At home we've found 'lost' jewelry in blood pressure devices, spare denture holders and under the lining of purses.

Yes I looked in every nook and cranny many times. It's gone, just sad at someone's dishonesty.

The jewellery pouch was in my carry on bag which I foolishly left unlocked when we went to dinner. This is the first time in 25 cruises that we actually didn't leave emptying the safe until the last moment. I am normally aware and conscious of putting temptation in anyone's way, as I feel that is wrong of me to do so but on this one occasion I lapsed and paid the price. My jewellery roll was not taken, guess the small red pouch looked tempting. The only reason it was not in my jewellery roll was because they were newly purchased on the trip. I know I shouldn't have done it but it leaves a sour taste. The carry on was with me at all times when we left our cabin on the morning of departure until we arrived home. I am not interested in making an insurance claim as they had special meaning and cannot be replaced.
I just wanted to know if anyone else who has been on Britannia has had items missing.

I recently returned from the P&O Britannia transatlantic. We enjoyed the cruise but all was spoiled when on unpacking I was missing a small distinctive jewellery purse containing 3 gold and amethyst earrings. I know I packed it, nothing was left in the cabin. I reported it to lost property but have had no joy.
A warning to myself and others in future not to leave cases unlocked in your cabin on the last day and to only empty the safe when ready to carry the items.
I had a reply from a comment elsewhere that they were missing a Bose soundbar. Perhaps P&O should pay more attention if customers are regularly "losing" valuables.

Anyone been to Antwerp with P & O?
Not with P&O but we lived in Antwerp for 9 years. A wonderful city, so much to see and do. Easy to discover on foot. The birthplace of Rubens, full of culture and amazing restaurants. The place to buy diamonds, visit great museums and admire the architecture or just sit in one of the many cafes enjoying a Belgian beer.
Here is a link to a good website http://www.visitantwerpen.be/walking-en The first place to do a flash mob advert - the sound of music in the grand railway building gives you a glimpse of this fine place
Enjoy your visit.
