I think the poster you quoted understands it correctly and see the bigger picture and not just the $$$$
Would you like it if you found out your kids were housed in the captains quarters?
Those kids had better be watched every minute they are on the ship and by more than 1 caretaker
My kid would never be left on a ship by himself. END OF STORY.
Parents are 100% at fault here.

We just got back from a Christmas cruise on the Fantasy. We cruised on NCL in May and didn't get the drink package, and were kicking ourselves as we spent a LOT on drinks. This time, we got it, (as we did when we were on the Breeze previously) but honestly, I probably would have done better just paying for our drinks. I know I came nowhere near 15 drinks a day, and the only day my DH did, it was because he was on a mission to hit that number..LOL (I do think we were crazier on the NCL cruise because we didn't have our son with us...so maybe we won't get the drink packages when we cruise with him and have to behave...ha ha ha!)
And to answer your actual question, we spent about 400.00 once we subtracted the cheers package for both of us.

Absolutely. My son has never ordered off the kid's menu on any of our cruises. He goes right for the steak every. single. time. :p

Thanks for the input! Guess I'll just have to act fast if it drops again ;)

I was looking to book a cruise on the Fantasy (sail date of Dec 23, 2015) this past Friday, and my hubby said to hold off, he wanted to look at something. The room we were looking at was 482.00. Went to check again this am, and it's up to 543.00. How often do these rates change like that? It was a matter of days...Now I wonder if I should hold off even more, maybe it will go back down?

Ugh, is there excessive smoking at the bar in Vibe? Is it like the casino? I will not pay extra, and be bothered by smoke. It is just not fair! Get with it NCL, go with the majority of people, and ban smoking for good.
Bella
You would be better served paying for Vibe and dealing with the small amount of people that *might* be smoking, rather than hanging out by the pools...that is where most of the smoking we saw onboard was happening.
I was COMPLETELY bummed out reading these boards before we went, because people made it sound like you will get choked out with the smoke from the casino, etc....doom and gloom... I was preparing for the worst. Halfway through the cruise, it occurred to me that I never noticed the "terrible" smoke smell from the casino, or anywhere else for that matter. I can say that we weren't bothered by it one bit on our cruise on May 10th.
As for smoking in Vibe, it's so windy up there that I doubt any smells in the air stick around for long....lol

Come on people, she just wanted an answer to the question...aren't we taught, "it doesn't hurt to ask"??? Also, isn't there an additional charge for a cabana???
I'm not positive, but I recall someone saying the cabanas were 300.00/week.

Is there shade or umbrellas in Vibe? And if so, is that away from bar/smoking section? Our only disappointment with Breakaway last week were changes in H2O where only shade was at bar/smoking. So for return in November we are thinking Vibe as option.
In addition to lots of umbrellas, there are times when the chairs/loungers over by the cabanas have plenty of shade.

No, it is not.
Actually, that is not true. We are just off the Breakaway this past Sunday, and there were plenty of people smoking at the bar in Vibe.
Have a great trip, OP!

Hi there! We booked an inside GTY for our cruise this Sunday, and I saw we were given an inside family. Looking at pics it appears that it has two upper bunks. It's just my DH and I, so we won't be using them, and will have the beds pushed together. My question is, with the bed in the middle of the room, will those upper bunks stick out and be in the way (ie: will it be easy to bump into them)? Thanks in advance!

I take my nice, but fake, set. :p My real engagement ring and wedding band are made from my the wedding bands of my grandparents, and I would be heartbroken if anything happened to them on vacation.

If they allow you to park the car you can then go over to the USS Intrepid which is a cool place to visit. No sense sitting around for hours doing nothing.
Great idea! My husband would definitely love to see that.
Thanks!!

Hi there!
We will be driving to our Breakaway cruise on May 10 from Detroit. As we're going to be driving through the night to arrive in the am, I was wondering if anyone knows how early they will let you in to the parking at the pier? I'd hate to get there crazy early and then not have anywhere to go for 3 hours...if they don't even let you in until say, 8am, we may adjust our departure time.
Thanks in advance!

Yeah, but only because that Kathy is from New York. Kathy from Miami only charges $4.95.
In other cities Kathy costs $3.95 but only between midnight and 5am.

Since room service and it's now cruise critic notorious "convenience" is the hot topic for the foreseeable future. Wondering how many people order room service, and what you on average order?
We typically order just light breakfast items. Coffee, rolls/Danish, yogurt/granola.
We order light breakfast items, juice and coffee.
I really hope this fee is truly just a "test" for 2 weeks. They've already jacked up a bunch of other fees since I paid our final payment.

We just received our cabin assignment a few days ago, I saw a number on deck 13 so I was reaalllyy happy about it.
But after checking the deck plans, we saw that is a handicapped cabin. Not a problem for us - more space I think!!! - but what if someone need it? (we don't)
Does anyone happened to be moved?
Out of curiosity, what sailing date? We're on the May 10th with at GTY room. I have been checking daily to see if we've been assigned a cabin and so far nothing. The suspense is killing me! :D

Hi!
We will be driving from Metro Detroit to the Manhattan Pier for our cruise on the Breakaway in May. We're planning on driving the day before and staying overnight at a hotel that is fairly close to the pier (maybe an hour or two outside of Manhattan). Does anyone have any suggestions? We're not familiar with NY/PA at all...
Thanks in advance!!

We cruised last Christmas on the Fantasy. I brought a little tiny Christmas tree from Michael's which we decorated when we got to the ship, with little tiny lights and all. :) I also brought stockings and hung them up with command hooks, just so Santa could visit us. I brought a few gifts from home so my son still had something to open on Christmas, but it was mostly stuff he could use on the trip (new sunglasses, DS game, etc).
I think my favorite part was when they made it "snow" in the atrium, if I recall correctly it was on Christmas Day.
