  1. Hi Jamman, I'm very late to the party. Just catching up now .

I noticed from your pictures that we were in Port Canaveral the same time - we were just a couple doors down at Rusty's. We wondered why the Elation was so quiet for its departure, until we looked it up and realized it was repositioning (and noticed the banner.) We thought it was just a really low-key bunch at first!

    Thanks for another great review.

When I went to guest services around 8 or 8:30 the morning following his middle of the night vomiting, the gal told me I could take him to the clinic, but in no way 'told me' to take him there.  By then he was done puking, so we didn't know there would be any benefit to anyone for us to take him... we kept him quarantined to our room for the rest of the cruise.  I will say that it never occurred to me that they would have any medicine that would have helped my husband the next day... had I know that/thought of it, we would have absolutely taken him.  (Someone had told me they could have given him Zofran... is that all they would have given him?  I took Zofran when I was pregnant and it did absolutely nothing to help with my ongoing morning sickness - which was really all day sickness.)  Do you mind sharing how was your wife's situation was handled by the clinic?  Did they provide medicine?  Put her under some sort of quarantine?  Do they have some place for sick people to actually 'stay' outside of the state room?

In our case, we were prescribed medication and quarantined in our stateroom for a total of 52 hours (24 hours after the last symptom.) She got sick first in the afternoon, and I got sick that night.

When we got the call from security to report to medical, it didn't sound optional. I can't recall the name of the medication we were prescribed - but it worked like a charm. As an aside, the medical care we received was top notch and everything was handled well. Our room was sanitized and they even went as far to swap out the magazines and all bedding.

I was told that they had a flag on our Seapass cards that we were under quarantine, which had to be cleared by the doctor before we could disembark the ship at the end of the cruise.

I would assume this would be standard procedure anytime there's vomit, but maybe it varies from case to case.

  3. I'm surprised your soon wasn't told to go to the medical facility.

My wife vomited on the gangway coming back from Labadee on the Oasis norovirus cruise last year (before anyone knew it was norovirus). We got a call from security to our room that afternoon and were told to report to medical. If this didn't happen with your son, I'd think those protocols weren't followed, in addition to the issues with replacing the bedding.

    Hope he's feeling better now.

Wow. My wife said it kind of reminded her of a fjord excursion we took in Norway. It really pointed out what a rip off the Princess excursions can be. We were on a private fjord excursion with a small group. We boarded a nice, large vessel that was docked next to an identical vessel that had the same company name painted on it. We had lots of room and space to move around both inside and outside.  The other, identical vessel was doing a Princess fjord excursion. It was completely packed full of people. It shadowed us as we did our fjord cruise. Yep, the exact same type of vessel from the same company doing the same excursion. The difference was that the Princess trip was packed jam full and waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more expensive. Mind boggling. We had the exact same trip for far less money and it was definitely much better.

Couldn't agree more. And the cruiselines really have some people fooled with the old "but the ship will wait for you if you book an excursion through us" farce. Don't get me started.

Enjoying the review as always, Winks. At least the excursion served booze.

  5. Enjoying the thread - we were on Oasis for the noro-cruise last January, so nice to see some areas we didn`t make it to, plus the changes.

The explanation I`ve heard about Studio B is that the theatre is "Studio" A and the ice rink is B.  Not saying it makes total sense, just what I had heard at one point.

Where is the comedy show now? Looked to be held in a cave somewhere. Kinda cheesy with the fabric backdrop IMO.

  6. Despite being in isolation in our cabin for 48 hours, we still had a great cruise.

We think Royal went above and beyond with the compensation and are very happy with it.

Kudos to the crew who worked very hard at sanitizing the ship (and still are).

  7. Captain just announced we are leaving Falmouth and heading to Cozumel. The Jamaican government did not let the ship let off the passengers.

They are refunding the equivalent of one days fare.

Of the approx 8000 people on board, captain said 2% are affected.

  8. If it's a private tour, I believe they wait for you. I looked back at the confirmation email from when we used Rony's and it made reference to let them know if we change our mind so they are not waiting all day. So I take this to mean they will be waiting whenever you are ready.
