Keep it also covers specialty coffees, non-alcoholic frozen/specialty drinks, sodas and bottled water. So even if you're not particularly big drinkers - at the price per drink, about 6 - 8 is the break even, there's a lot of other options to chose from and sooooo convenient not to have to sign for a drink each time.

    San Pellegríno too?

When we booked all inclusive, our TA got them to sell just me the upgrade to the premium non-alcoholic package for about this price and left the husband with just the classic package. I can’t drink so upgrading both of hasn’t been worth it.  But I could cancel that and upgrade us both for to Premium alcoholic at roughly the same cost, as long as my beloved San Pelligrino is covered 😀

  2. My sailing I don't see the options of all-inclusive.  I tried turning off ad blocker.   After I choose Veranda category, then Deluxe Veranda Stateroom, either we choose or you choose room,  I get to add travel protection, dining, gratuities and refundable deposit.  Nothing about cruise only vs all inclusive price anywhere.

Sailing is Reflection,  Dec 9 2023 out of Fort Lauderdale.

Sure he is, he is passing laws forbidding protests and trying to restrict social media posts that say anything negative against him.  Not permitting businesses from having their own policies is very much what a dictator does.  He is terrible for the state.

Forbidding violence, rioting and looting. Not protesting peacefully.  I for one wouldn't like my state burned down, thanks

He limited his own emergency powers, which is pretty anti-dictator.

I disagree. The Governor has been all about opening up since last May. I’m surprised he even took a slight detour for a watered down “shutdown”.  I remember in September he wanted Disney to go 100%. Thankfully, they exercised good judgment and did not. He certainly could have used his then bravado to fight against the feds and sue for opening cruising last Summer or Fall. But he chose not to for obvious reasons.  Given the way things are progressing with cruising, the lawsuit is essentially moot and will linger on in court until it dies a natural death.

Where would these supposed cruises have cruised to back then?  It's one thing to allow things to open up within your own state, but if the cruises had nowhere to go and no international staff stateside to staff the ships, I don't see how that would helped anyone or even been possible at that time.

Disney may as well have opened 100%, all the plexiglass and queue wrapping in the world I doubt made a bit of difference. I love Disney, went shortly after opening, again in Oct, and another 10 days at the campground in Jan and, it's hardly the most magical place on earth right now.  But I am glad for cast members who want to be back to work. Truly awful for Disneyland to be stuck closed for as long as it did, they made it work here.

Absolutely true. Which is the basis of my opinion that if DeSantis really cared about Florida, he would have taken up this fight long ago when the other large entertainment venues opened up.

Disney opened up last July (I have been many times since then, pre and post vaccination).  There is no way in hell he could or should have fought for cruising back then.   I would also disagree that a large portion of supporters are anti-vaxxers. I do see Disney theme parks and cruising a little different only because I think it was easier to reduce capacity and spread people out outside multiple parks and hotels.   I'm not sure cruises would have wanted 30% capacity then, idk maybe.

Celebrity seems to be ignoring some of the benefits from a vaccine by not requiring vaccinations for future cruises from the US.  Cruises could get back to normal faster if they would mandate vaccinations for passengers and crew.

Are they subject to OSHA for the crew ?  Or not because they are non-US based?

    https://www.osha.gov/coronavirus/faqs#vaccine

If you require your employees to be vaccinated as a condition of employment (i.e., for work-related reasons), then any adverse reaction to the COVID-19 vaccine is work-related. The adverse reaction is recordable if it is a new case under 29 CFR 1904.6 and meets one or more of the general recording criteria in 29 CFR 1904.7.

All the death stats show mortality in 2020 far in excess of normal expected levels. [Edit: thanks, @unoriginalname]. These are also higher than normal beyond the numbers attributed to Covid, indicating that Covid is more likely than not to be the difference. All those coroners around the country aren't making these things up.

Back to the thread: Those overall stats will be interesting to compare to 2021 when the vaccines will hopefully reduce both Covid deaths and the level of overall deaths--less severe infections might have a big impact on other deaths.

But how many are we causing in the future in the name of mitigation?  I'm not saying the virus deaths are not unfortunate, they are, but I fear we made it worse.  There were never going to be zero deaths, no matter what we did.  And the impact on children's education in the past year as well, we don't fully know the impact.  People got scared and reacted, that's what humans do but future impact I don't think was thought through either or at the very least pushed aside as something to deal with later.

True the reported cases may not represent the total number of infections. How many have died of strokes, heart failure,  kidney failure, ect..., which are listed as reasons for death, when in fact if they had not had COVID 19 may still be alive?

And on the flip side, how many would have died this year without a positive COVID test but being counted as such?  Terminal cancer, Alzheimer's, etc.  Blunt force trauma (yes, listed as secondary COD).. We have done a grave disservice in how the counting is being done, because we will never know the true morality of this virus.

News stories last night that the Florida state level ineptitude continues. Florida has a million doses that still have not been released by the state to the local jurisdictions.

Tap dancing was done by the top level state  leader that those doses were held back second doses. However, a check on this was made at the federal level and those doses are first dose vaccines.

Meanwhile, there is growing anger at the fact that non Florida residents are allowed to obtain the vaccine.

My husband and I are resigned to the fact that there is no local effort to have a workable system of appointments and that it may be several months before we will be vaccinated. We are in the group that is suppose to be receiving the vaccine now.

Hillsborough has been not bad at all.  I now know 10 seniors who already got their first shot (6 last week) or are getting it this week (4) and all remarked how organized it was.

Edited to say, if you are willing to drive to another country, perhaps you'd have better results. Some I know did come over from Lee and Pinellas.

If you factor in how many influenza vaccines are administered in a given period of time every year, it far outpaces the rate at which covid vaccines have been administered.   It's not a lack of capable hands, it's the logistics of getting it to those people in order to have them administer the vaccine.

The cold storage is very different between the flu and the covid vaccines as well.

  11. Floridian here.. It's my understanding that the snowbirds who own second homes and most will have a FL id would be able to get the vaccine.   I was having this argument with my MIL whether or not that is 'right', the reality is if they plan on living 4-6 months in the community and use the medical resources, it is in the interest of the whole community to have them vaccinated quickly as well.   To her response 'sure, but AFTER the 'real FL residents'.  😛    It is not the intention people should fly here, be vaccinated and leave.

I'm in Hillsborough and was remarkably surprised how organized the drive through vaccination sites were last week, provided you got an appointment.

I was poking around my account yesterday and also saw it said select and not elite.  We are diamond + with rccl . I called Celebrity and asked if I had been demoted for some reason. She checked, still  elite and she could not explain why it said what it did.

    So typical Celebrity website glitches?

DaveKathy isn’t quite right regarding reciprocity of tier levels.  Diamond Plus and Pinnacle = Elite, just as Elite Plus and Zenith = Diamond.

Sorry I haven't been on the boards for a bit (no cruises since 2018), but did we lose reciprocal status benefits?  I used to be Elite (Diamond on EC) and now when I log in to CC it says I am Classic with only 95 points.  The points are correct but I had Elite status on my last Celebrity cruise.

  14. Apparently there was supposed to be a time where the Captain was going to talk to the guests and address complaints, in the theater I believe, but it was cancelled at the last minute with no explanation.  That smells very lawyer/Miami to me.

From what I am hearing second hand from my friends, they could have handled the communications a lot better on the ship.  Especially why the route was chosen, no believes weather had any issue.  But again was it crew incompetence or were their hands tied by corporate.  And they also received no survey.

I know people who were on the Ovation. They didn’t have any issues with the captain or crew. They were happy with the way things were handled due to the horrific incident.

Same.  I had friends on this cruise and we were in contact the whole time and I heard not a single complaint about how things were handled.  And we've cruised many times together, one of our cruises involved a crew member who jumped overboard which caused delays (Oasis).

  16. We have a trip planned to Yellowstone next year.  With a healthy dose of respect for it's dangers. Stay on the boardwalks near the geothermals, do not touch the hot water, stay far away from the bison. Carry bear spray and be mindful of food when picknicking.   Too many tourists do stupid things there and make the news every year.  I do not expect the NPS to be accountable when they do.  The signage is clear and there are risks in nature.
