  1. Since I don’t drink anything alcoholic, I unchecked the offer of free drinks. If I did not, I would’ve paid over $100 in gratuities. It is something I always mention to people. I always stay in a solo room so I can uncheck it. If a couple are in a room and one person drinks and the other one doesn’t, then you’re screwed, since it applies to the cabin.

  2. New Jersey and S. Florida here.  The flip flops they are talking about, as stated by others are the $1 rubber ones. Keep them for the beach.  The flip flops that my NJ/S. FL friends and I wear range from $15 - $35.  They are the nicest flip flops and some have the coolest bling.  Sandals are no good for me with that strap in the back, plus fancy flip fops that we wear are awesome and comfy.  If nice flip flops are not worn in your area of the country, don't put down those of us that wear them.  I especially like  a few pairs I have with memory foam.  If I see something worn on others that I know is a thing in a different part of country, that we do not wear, I don't get all snobby.  The Jersey Shore and South Florida is a laid back Kenny Chesney area.  We will dress nice, not slobs, but don't take away our nice flip flops.  It's a Flip Flop Nation.

  3. I went solo on the Legend 3 weeks ago.  I had a blast!   Mixed ages.  It's not an old fart cruise.  The kids were in the pools since we had a warm week.  It is far from boring!  I have always cruised out of Miami with my sister and we like to have a fun time, and this Alaska cruise was just as fun.  Go!  You will have fun.  I live at the Jersey Shore so we all like to have fun and I was never bored.  The shore excursions are unique and I enjoyed all of them.  BTW - I wrote a review on the Legend a few weeks ago also.

  4. I went solo 3 weeks ago on the Legend to see Alaska.   I find $300 a night to cruise still a bargain.  I paid $2,200 for my 7 days and that included room, food, and entertainment.  Hotels today will cost you  $200+.  One good thing that helped me was I had a voucher to use from American Airlines.  9 months ago I gave up my seat to go on a later flight.  So my $430 Philly to Seattle flight was a freebie.   Doing that Alaska cruise was wonderful and worth every dollar.  I did three excursions.  I ordered one Margarita, and that was basically it for the extras

  5. I went solo to Alaska on Carnival and returned last week.  My sister and I always cruise together but she had no interest in Alaska.  I am former law enforcement and very independent.  I can tell you, it is VERY safe on a cruise.  My solo cruise was great!  I was able to read my book when on the ship.  I met so many people and since the Carnival Legend is a smaller ship, I would see them through the week.  I had anytime dining and each night I asked to dine by myself.  I either watched the crowd, or played games on my phone!  Haha.   This was my 10th cruise, but first alone.  I even flew from Philly to Seattle.  You will have  blast........and a cabin for yourself!

  6. The smoke is nasty in the casinos.  I was just on the Legend and hated walking through the casino.  People who aren't even gambling stand in there and smoke.  I would have played roulette, but kept walking.  Too bad since I would play a lot.

  7. I got a pedicure yesterday on the Legend and tip was added at 15%.  I knew it would be more than home but I wanted to relax.  I tried but the girl kept going on & on with the sales pitch. Had to laugh since she kept saying my skin is dry and I know it is not.

  8. I am on the Legend now.  Yes, now. You can get cabin service twice a day. I choose just once and it is at night. It is only me in the cabin and make my own bed. Steward still comes and brings clean towels even though I told him he only needs to do my room at night.

People here on the Legend do not dress like slobs. Elegant night was tonight.  Most dressed really nice and a few of the teenagers wore pretty prom gowns.

Most of use like the casualness of a cruise .  We work hard and want to relax and enjoy.

  9. Since 9/11, there are many rules to follow in specific areas & places of the country. Just remember,we as citizens do not know everything about what our gov't is informed about with terrorists. I am former law enforcement here in NJ, and just wanted to give you all a heads up why you cannot take photos & things like that in specific areas. To the poster, so sorry to hear how it was handled.
