I brought one of these on our World Cruise. Stick it in the corner and fill.  Grab the handles and go.  Dump your dry laundry in and dump it on the bed to fold.  After 178 days, it started to rip, but it (along with the magnets) was the best $7 purchase I made.

Agree!!!  We  bought two and take them on every cruise.  Even if we don't do laundry, they serve as great hampers to keep dirties out of the way.

  2. You all are wonderful!  I will be sure to get port info and the ships number.  I will be emailing to see if we are the only ones and will be looking into a backup plan just in case.  I feel MUCH better about coming in late.  Thank you!

  3. We will be arriving in Reykjavik for our cruise at 11:30 p.m.  The ship overnights in Reykjavik.  We used Viking Air so they are providing transfers.  I confirmed that they will provide transfers this late and they said yes.  So what will happen when we get to the ship?  Will they check us in that late?  Will they take our luggage straight to our cabin or will we need to take it?  Will probably want to go to bed so I don't want to wait up for luggage delivery--will we need to?  Just curious if anyone who has arrived late before knows how that works.  It is Viking Ocean on the Saturn.  Thanks!

  4. Just a quick update on this.  It finally occurred to me to do the chat rather than sit on hold forever.  She said that I could do a short video of doing the test and a picture of the results and upload them to the Medallion app.   No medical supervision necessary!  Thank you all for the answers--sorry I didn't think of chat sooner.

  5. We received an email about our upcoming cruise originating in Chile:

    Testing Requirements

    • All guests ages 5 and older are required to take a medically observed COVID-19 Test.
      • Medically observed PCR test taken within 3 days before embarkation.
      • Medically observed or self-administered antigen home test must be taken within 3 days before embarkation.

The last bullet says a "medically observed" OR "self-administered antigen home test.  Does that mean we can just do one of the regular home tests without doing the phone appointment?  If so, how would we report the results?   I know I can call Princess (and will) but I dread the long hold time and thought someone on  here might know the answer.

Just got off the 9 day Ocean Voyager Great Lakes cruise and was surprised to receive a complimentary bag of laundry washed and pressed. Room attendant said that started a month ago

We received the same thing on our Ocean Navigator cruise!!! I was delighted!

Based only on my own experience, I think it might slow you down a bit. If you feel like having another go at it, remove your middle name. I recently renewed my passport, and the form on the app simply wouldn't take it with my middle name in there. You don't say what the error message you get says and that ought to tell you which part of the form isn't good to go. Also, you might check to see if there are any empty spaces before or after your info. A properly coded form ought to strip those out, but sometime that doesn't happen and sometimes that causes problems.

Actually, there is no error message.  When I tell it to Save, it just goes back and shows as incomplete.  I tried entering the information manually and then tried scanning.  It just continues to show incomplete.  I will probably need to call--just dreaded the hold time!

  8. I have been trying to enter the information on the Medallion App for our upcoming cruise in January.   It accepts all of  my husband's information just fine and has moved him to "Green Lane".  It will NOT accept my Travel Documents.  I have entered the information manually and scanned my passport.  Is there a "secret" I know nothing about?  Does it really matter if I am "blue lane" as long as my husband is "green lane"?   Can call Princess, but dread the hold and thought someone might have a quick solution.

They have a shuttle service that takes people to the hotel from right outside of the dock. It costs 500NOK per person round-trip. If you email them from your website they are very responsive.

The website also shows available ice hotel experiences that are available such as guided tours, tour on your own, fun blue ice drinks, with prices attached. It’s listed on their website under experiences, and then scroll down to Ice Hotel experiences.

Thank you!  I will check it out.  I had checked earlier but with Covid the information I was getting was very incomplete.  I called and they weren't sure what would be offered.  I will check the website again!

  10. When docked in Alta, is there any way to go to the Igloo Hotel for a tour but NOT stay overnight?  We do not want to stay overnight and the only other excursion I see there is for a snowmobile ride, which we are also not crazy about.  Are there other tours (Not Viking) or can you get a taxi out to the hotel and back?

My husband and I cruised on Ocean Navigator this spring and used the laundry service.  Men’s undershirts and shorts were about $1 to $2 each if I remember correctly.  Polo shirts about $3 and Bermuda shorts around $3.50.  Pajamas were $3.50 to $4.  These are approximations.  Service was quick and the clothes were hung on hangers.  I  consider laundry service charges just a very small part of cruising expenses.  By the way, we were on a two week Great Lakes cruise, concentrating on Lake Superior.  We had a wonderful cruise and highly recommend American Queen Voyages.

Thank you so much!  That helps a great deal with our packing.  We are doing the 2 week Great Lakes cruise this fall and are really looking forward to it.  We  have sailed the river boats with American Queen and have really enjoyed them.

I almost booked a 16 day trip from Boston to Nassau on the Navigator but the lack of laundry - either self service or send-out, stopped me from booking.  Could not possibly go that long without laundry.  But check with the line, it may have changed or I may have been misinformed.

I just now FINALLY heard back from AQ.  They said there is paid laundry service but would not give me an idea of pricing.  Would still love to hear from someone who has seen the pricing.

  13. Thank you all for the suggestions!!!  While I was waiting for answers, I stayed on hold for over an hour.  FINALLY got help from a very nice woman who was able to extend the FCC's.  I have tried a CVP but was not happy with the one I got.  I may try again and see if a different one can be of more help.  I appreciate the ideas.

Try calling very early morning.  They open at 7:00am EST, so start dialling immediately.  Good luck!  We have a CVP now and we never have to wait.  She either answers right away or I leave a voicemail message.  I refuse to waste my life “on hold”.  You should look into getting your own CVP.

Maybe I will try again.  I had one before but I guess not a very good one.  I could not get him to reply when I needed help.

  15. My husband and I have around $4000 in credits from cancelled cruises that we used to book a transatlantic cruise April 9 of 2023.   Princess cancelled the cruise.  We rebooked a cruise for April 16 of 2023. Now they are saying that our credits expired before the April 16 cruise.  I have tried online chat and have called.  They said they would need to hand it up to Customer Resolutions (I think that is what they called it?).  I have now been on hold for an hour and have no idea when I will get through. Is there any easier way to resolve this?  Any other contact by email or phone that would not keep me on the phone for hours?  Thanks for any help!

In Search of the Northern Lights Cruise was magical - one of our very favorite cruises! We were there a couple of years ago in January. Beautiful scenery! Saw the most spectacular display of Northern Lights out on the top deck of our ship about an hour out of Tromso! We visited an ice hotel, took a gondola to the top of the mountain for amazing views and did several other excursions. One day the sun peaked over the horizon for just a couple of minutes but that is part of the magic.  And it is a tradition that every home leaves a light on in a window. Do buy appropriate clothes for cold weather and you'll be fine. We even enjoyed the hot tub on the back of the ship in the snow! Viking does a great job!

Do you have to spend the night at the ice hotel, or can you just go and see it?  Silly question, but is it very cold sleeping there?  Uncomfortably cold?

By now, every potential cruiser is fully aware -- or should be aware -- of Viking's testing policy. Some folks like the policy; others dislike it; and still others are neutral. But for now at least, it is what it is. If people want to move to Silversea or another line because of the policy, then they're certainly free to do so. I'm sure Viking has taken possible customer loss into account among the myriad of factors that shape the company's thinking.

What is not taken into account is those of us that are "hostage" because of unused cruise credits.  It is difficult to just chalk those off to a loss and move to another cruise line.  When I have used mine up, if Viking is still daily testing, we will DEFINITELY be moving to another cruise line.

  18. Would love to hear from someone who has taken this river cruise with Viking.  I am already stressing trying to figure out how to take enough clothes when I probably won't be able to wear anything twice (because of the heat).  How do you typically dress for dinner?  I know it is smaller and different than the typical river cruise-just curious about the dress.  Thanks!                                                                                                                           .

My experience recently- Used FCC to book cruise plus additional money on credit card

    had PVP insurance

    paid all in full

42 days prior to cruise called & asked to cancel using Cruise with Confidence.
got back my original FCC back to our accounts within 5 days

reimbursed money amount to credit card in 7 days. The money amount included the amount we paid for the insurance

quite surprised as 2 agents told me PVP was non refundable.

Did the FCCs that were put back on  your account have the original expiration date or was it pushed out based on the cancellation date?  Our FCC's that we have used were set to expire in December of this year.
