  1. Does anyone know whether there is any sewage discharged in the area near the Vixen, Daniel's Head, Mangrove Bay and Somerset Long Bay? I have done snorkeling excursions in these areas before and wondering if this might be a better, safer option.

    Ahoy, Allentown!

I hope you have been enjoying Musikfest and the Awkscht fescht this weekend!

Unfortunately, I cannot locate the map I found from a research study (about 6 years or so ago) regarding the impact of the raw sewage on biohazards to the residents and visitors of Bermuda.

However, I recall the following (with a level of accuracy for which I am comfortable in stating here).

    (1) The bulk of the sewage pipes are near the Royal Naval Dockyard. I recall 4 on the North side and 4 on the South Side of the peninsula.

My family's conclusion: We do not go to Snorkel Park.

    (2) There was a private pipe from a hotel that is no longer in existence that deposited raw sewage off of Horseshoe Bay. There is nothing in that place, so I have no reason to believe the pipe is in use.

    (3) There are two pipes up by Tobacco Bay, and in fact, it is my understanding that they were the first beach to report problems, more than 10 years ago, which was the first time my family went to Bermuda. One of those pipes dumps a huge amount of sewage into the ocean. And even though we were docked in St. George, and Tobacco Bay was the easiest beach to get to (and my children were really young at this point), we have not nor will we be swimming at that Beach.

    (4) There are another 4 pipes near St. George (on the South East of St. George/St. John) thus having us avoid those beaches.

    (5) Finally, there are two pipes, one very major, off of the coast of Elbow Beach which has attracted the attention that has generated these concerns.

Now this next part, is just my interpretation of the situation and where I go with my family.

Church Bay is our favorite, and it is very far from any pipes.

We have gone to Jobson's Cove and another beach near it (on the western side of Warwick Beach), for swimming and snorkeling. We walk on Horseshoe and Warwick, though we have never seen "tar balls."

This year, we are also going to West Whale Bay and St. John Smith Bay, as my children are interested in going to "new beaches" and these are the ones I have determined should be far enough away from the sewage pipes.

If I find the map of the pipes, I will post it so people can see it for themselves.

  2. Hello,

    So I have a question.

Firstly, I was told that the "adult pools" were for 16 year olds and older.

Was I given misinformation? (Which would now be the 3rd bit of misinformation given to me by Celebrity for this one cruise).

Secondly, are the teens "labeled" in some manner that they would be kicked out of an adult hot tub (given they are behaving in an adult fashion?

I have only been cruising with teenagers for the last two cruises, both Carnival (with my Mom). During the first cruise, they avoided the adult hot tubs, but on the second cruise enjoyed them greatly, actively participating in all sorts of conversations, and clearly were sought after by some older adults looking for engaging conversation. No one wanted them out despite their chronological age.

So ... what is the real age, and how do they determine who to kick out? Do they label the teens apart from on their room keys.

Finally ... unless the older teens are misbehaving, exactly what mechanism do they have to kick them out?

    Thanks, all, for your feedback.

  3. We (group of 10) had the new AQ cabins aft deck 11 a few weeks ago...

Loved the aft location - we were right over the Sunset Bar -

Positive about that - a quick hop down the stairs for a drink, and to the buffet -- very convenient.

Negative - yes, you could hear the music late at night- never bothered us- but could to some who like it quiet. The rooms are pretty sound proof- so with the door closed - minimal noise..

Smoking never bothered us - did not drift up...

We had 1140 - the best cabin back there -huge balcony - the 2 on either side were 2nd best - 1138 & 1141 -- very large balconies also...

    Hi Sandy,

Thank you for this great information ... my family and I just booked 1140 and 1138 on the Summit for next summer (25th wedding anniversary!!!). We were told we can open the partitions of the balconies, but that partition for 1140 looks huge.

Did you and your friends open the partition and if so, how was it with cabin 1140?

    Thank you for your help.

    Bonnie

  4. Fantastic Thread, everyone ... great information, especially about the Ipods and the Bose Stereo!

I have a question about concierge service pre-boarding.

I was provided with an email to contact the concierge ... what can we arrange prior to boarding? Reseverations in Specialty dinning?

I thought about emailing the concierge, but I've already appeared stupid on this board many times ...

And, I've read in other places about how much to tip the butler, but it's still unclear to me what do we give the concierge assuming appropriate service.

    Thank you!

  5. Hello All,

We will be at the caves as it approaches high tide, high tide, and as it pulls away. I remember the last time we were in St. John we were shocked at the rapid change in the water height right before our eyes.

I do have a question that I posted else where. As we will have time to explore the area around the Sea Caves, does anyone have suggestions?

And what is the name of the restaurant on the beach?

  6. St. Marten or Irving National Park

    Hello all,

My family and I love interesting flora and fauna, as well as unique geological structures. We will be in St. John's as they approach high tide.

I was thinking about renting a car. We have been to St. John's before and did the Horse Drawn Carriage and Photo Tour. We loved them both. But this time, as my children are older and more into hiking than the last time, we would like to get a better feel of the area. So, would it be better for us to walk through Irving National Park or drive further to see the caves of St. Marten?

Oh, and for people with young children, or mobile by older family members... the Photo tour was great. We were sitting enough and walking enough to keep everyone comfortable and interested.

    Thank you.
