We just returned from the Princess R/T from Los Angeles.  They have free transfer bus to "downtown."  Great and crowded market.  We enjoyed the Tsunami Museum along the main street.  Senior admission was $7, regular was "probably" $8. We just walked along the main drag, visited the market, and then the museum.  The bus also stops at the airport, so it took about 25 minutes to return to the ship.  We didn't notice much to see adjacent to the dock, as Scott mentioned.

just to clarify, the free transport bus stops at the Hilo airport? We need to pick up our rental car there.

we're taking the NCL Discover Kauai and Luau.  I have heard varied reveiws on Facebook, and was wondering about it.

also doing the Shark Dive and Big Island Snorkel....can't wait!!!

Who are you doing the shark dive thru?

  3. Are there vendors offering excursions at the port in Ocho Rios? NCL changed our itinerary again and I am not seeing anything that we want to book ahead. NCL probably won’t list anything until we are aboard the ship since we leave in 13 days!

Hi, We will be in great stirrup cay next week and wondered whether there were sun umbrellas to hire or any shade anywhere. Is there a certain better spot on the island to head for if you need shade.

Grateful for any info in advance has we havent been before and we are cruising with NCL and the only options to pre book on the excursions are villas or cabanas at mega bucks.4

Did you find a shady spot at GSC? We’re there in December

  5. We spent the day at Tropicana. I can’t wait to go back to Costa Maya just to hang out on the beach. Took the open air thingy ($2 each) and got dropped off a block from the beach. Tropicana had good beer and food prices. Beach was great and calm with fish swimming around. Staff at Tropicana took us to specific stores when we asked about items (I was looking for a pharmacy, MIL for silver jewelry).

  6. How far of a walk is it to Lettys? One person in our group has difficulty walking long-distance but a few blocks are OK..

Also, I am not sure that I am understanding....When we get off the water taxi there will be a tractor/wagon that will take us to the beach? So I am assuming that when we get to the beach we then walked to Lettys, is that correct?

If I remember correctly, it’s not a short stroll from the port to Stone Island. Nor to a beach restaurant with tables, ect. I’d be nervous with someone who has difficulty walking.

  7. I had 20, 17 and 15 year olds with me. We did the Marriott. This week. There was also a kid splash area, your kid might like it or it might be too “little” for them. The pool has a volleyball net we used. We grabbed a taxi van from the dock. Paid 550 pesos per person and were credited back 450 towrds food and drinks. I would recommend it highly for a resort day.

Perhaps getting a quote on the taxi ride first, we got screwed. Maybe heading out of the gate and finding a taxi on the road as opposed to those in the tender area. It was convenient. $20 for the ride, the most expensive ride by far that day.

did you pre book your day pass?

  8. Just looked at Radical's calendar for 24 Oct, states they have 6 from "Carnival" with "room for more to join." Have you contacted them? It is my understanding that they will "mix" passengers from other ships.

I've talked to them twice. Both times they said they wouldn't mix groups :(
