  1. I am thinking that the cruise company hires part-time assistance for the turn-around days. Is this true?

Don’t believe so the staff and crew have the turn-around process to a “T”. With that said HAL changes many years ago has made it more difficult on the cabin stewards, increasing the number of cabins/steward plus pushing to make them available upon embarkation. Also allowing passengers to remain in their cabin until their number is called doesn’t help the crew. Their time to prepare cabins is probably around 2 hours, and that’s after transporting luggage throughout the evening, tough day with little sleep. Other crew are cleaning, restocking, and other tasks. With all that said they make it happen smiling all the time! In the case of the Eurodam they have 13 perfect health inspections in a row, that’s amazing!

As Sail says they do have shore help in assisting the Embarkation and Debarkation process.

  2. We were on her in May to Alaska, we loved everything about the cruise and the Eurodam.

Our favorite “Dam” ship and great crew. Captain Scott renewed our 25th Anniversary vows in 98. Thx for the article

  3. Just received a HAL cruise catalog in the mail that contains Caribbean cruises over that time period with Explore 4 packages but not specifically identified as Holiday Cruises.

  4. I have been finding mixed messages about what is allowable in power strips to recharge electronics shipboard. Does anyone know what is the “official” criteria from HAL on power strips? Thanks in advance

I have always taken a receptacle that has several plug in spots plus places for charging cell phones, no surge protector is allowed. Plus I take an extension cord for my CPAP, never had an issue. f9bd573420d1a3a69b4012d38eab5383.jpg

    Purchased this on Amazon

I only use it when we’re in the cabin

To get the official ruling check “ Know before you go” in their site.

  5. You’ve paid the corkage fee so you can drink it anywhere onboard including your cabin.

Or they can store it for another night even if in a different dining room. If you provide the information from the previous dinner they can locate your bottle faster.

Or you could store the bottle for another dinner & purchase another full bottle to drink in your cabin.

If purchased in the DR there is no corkage fee involved.

  6. Two scenarios:

    A) I am at a bar and order a glass of wine, we then are joined by another couple and decide to proceed to MDR. Can I carry the glass of wine in???

    b) I bring wine onboard, pay the corkage and decide I want to take a glass to the MDR. Is this permissible?

As usual thanks in advance for any assistance with this!

Yes and yes! If at the Vines they may change out your Riedel glass for a less expensive b4 you leave.

  7. If you do back to back cruises do you get the amenities on both cruises such as elite mini bar, military and loyalty OBC, etc. or just on the first leg of the cruises? [emoji4]Thanks

Is it listed under one booking number or two? If one the amenities will cover the entire cruise, if two they will be split but it may be doubtful if it’s split. All b to b’s I have taken were one booking number.

  8. Sorry' date=' but no. The 15 drinks per day applies only to alcohol. The coffee and water is unlimited. This from Princess web site:

    Terms and Conditions

    •
    • Alcoholic drinks are limited to 15 beverages per 24-hour period (6 a.m. to 6 a.m.). Alcoholic drinks requested above the daily limits are at the discretion of the shipboard management and crew and charged at regular menu prices.

    • Non-alcoholic drinks do NOT have this limitation nor do they count toward this maximum.

    • Only one beverage is allowed per passenger per order (alcoholic or non-alcoholic).

    • Items selected that exceed the $12.00 USD or $16 .00 AUD price are charged at full menu price.

    • Packages may NOT be shared, are NON-transferable and NON-refundable.

    • Shipboard management reserves the right to add additional restrictions and revoke or cancel the Premier Beverage Package at any point during a guest’s voyage for any reason with or without a prorated refund. Additional actions may be taken if guests:

      •
      • Become intoxicated

      • Provide beverages to other guests or do NOT comply with the terms, conditions and limitations of the package

      • Exhibit behavior that is inappropriate, a safety risk to themselves or others, or become offensive or disruptive to other cruise guests or staff

      • Exceed, or attempt to circumvent, the daily limits and service limitations outlined

      •

Interesting our last Princess cruise included coffee and water in the daily package, Christmas 2017 as I had to show my card?

  9. For 2 day's I've searched to answer to this question.

My wife and I got the Sip and Sail package which states-I believe- to paraphrase, that both adults over 21 must participate in the special ( we are both on the right side of 21, X3 to be exact when we go on our cruise.) This allows us Sodas, Teas, Coffees, Bottled water, some snacks, 20% off on purchased wine and 15 alcoholic drinks per day from 6A-whenever

The question I have is---15 drinks a day is for the both of us total each day or is it 15 drinks each for of us a day?

Since you both have the package it’s 15 drinks/per day/per person which includes coffees, water, and alcoholic drinks.

  10. Our August cruise has been sold out for a while but we still have no stateroom assignment. No special concerns about this but wonder why it wouldn't have been done by now. Any clues?

Its most likely closed so Princess can fill slots by either upgrading or offering upsells then they will assign guaranteed cabins. You may either be upgraded or offered one of the upsells.

  11. The dividends (which I were referring to) are currently 50 cents per quarter. According to the NASDAG website the dividends declared in 2014 were as follows:

    0.25 10/14/2014

    0.25 7/16/2014

    0.25 4/22/2014

    0.25 1/16/2014

As to stock price, it was $30 in Feb, 2012, the date of my stock purchase.

You must have bought when the Costa Concordia went down in Italy and the stock tanked to below $30, great buy at the time.

Sorry thought you meant stock price but I agree the dividend has doubled, we bought at $40 and 25 cent dividend. With all the increases in shares + dividend increases and then add on the SBC for 15+ cruises I’m happy with the investment.

  14. Obviously, no one can predict the future of any stock. My thoughts (for what they are worth) at $57 the stock pays a $2.00 dividend, which is 3.5% - not bad and has been increasing (it has doubled since 2014)! This helps to limit the downside in stock price IMO.

As to the industry, I like the demographics of it - the retired community is increasing daily and is already at record levels, many of these retirees will turn to cruising for their vacations, plus they now have the time to do longer cruises. In addition, these retirees have more disposable income than past retirees.

A current negative issue is the price of oil, which has recently jumped. Living in the oil patch, we certainly like this, but the local feeling is that oil prices will not stay high long term, as there are too many factors that could push it downward (increased fracking, new technologies, electric cars, OPEC issues, etc.). So, I do not see oil being a longer term negative.

In disclosure, I recently purchased a fair amount of CCL stock, after watching it more than double since my last purchase in 2012.

    For what its worth..........

CCL has shown positive growth but hasn’t doubled in 4 years, $38 in 7/14?

It’s in my portfolio only for the SB credits.

  15. Looking at a 14 day Princess Cruise that stops in Ft Lauderdale halfway through the cruise -- would we need to get off the ship and back on, or could we stay on board? I have seen back to backs, but this would actually be booked AS a 14 day...

You may have booked this trip as a 14 East/West Explorer but Princess also lists it as a 7 day Eastern and 7 day Western thus some passengers may only be doing a 7 day leg. With all that said you most likely will have to leave the ship in FLL until Customs zeros the count then you can reboard. Sometimes Customs may come onboard and passengers on the 14 day trip gather in one location so you can be counted out and back onboard. All depends?

  16. Really? I'd love to have something like that! Is it ok to use for full time use or just recommended when traveling?

What I have read is it can be a full time device. It’s a ResMed Air Mini, check it out! I’m going to look into it for travel and cruises.

  17. We travel a lot and I finally bit the bullet and bought the mini CPAP. No water needed. Size slightly larger than a deck of cards. Got tired of hauling the larger than large briefcase for my CPAP through the airport, onto the place and transferring to shuttles. Company I purchased it through had a package that included the machine, mask, headset, tubing and travel bag ,plus 12 month 0% financing. Win/win

Are you speaking of the Air Mini? I too have lugged the large CPAP machine and have been looking at the mini for travel. Plus the headset appears to be much nicer. Probably able to place in Carryon also.

  18. And just laugh?

Yes' date=' I know that in large part the TV show revitalized the cruise industry. But there is virtually nothing accurate on the show other than that there is a ship.

    Examples:

Space between tables in the dining rooms

    Size of cabins

    Personnel issues of all sorts

    The list is endless......[/quote']

Years ago the TV show Love Boat inspired our desire to cruise. Since 86 we have cruised many times on three lines, mostly Holland but lately we have been hooked to Princess. On our 2nd Princess Cruise we watched several reruns of Love Boat in the cabin TV in the late evening, loved and laughed a lot.
